I am a Newcastle fan in the south… I have been to Southampton many, many times. I am not surprised you enjoyed playing us prior to the takeover. I recall a 4-0 defeat, another 4-0 defeat, a 3-1 defeat which basically relegated us (nice Townsend goal though)… in fact our 2-1 victory with Bruno and Wood scoring was the first time I witnessed a victory in like 5 games, but I missed both goals due to traffic and needing the toilet. I missed one fixture and it was a 4-1 Newcastle victory, so I think I am some kind of jinx…

I’m a Toon fan and I think this video is excellent. You wishing you had a clinical striker is the same as me for NU! Isak needs to start for us because as you showed, you’re not going to lie down.
On the incidents in the game: the tackle on Almiron, should have been red. My brother, is an ex-Premier league ref (finished in 1998 (injury)) and he says it was red. Your player was out of control and there was intent. It was a clear and obvious error. Secondly, the Pope decision, was correct. He got there first and cannot stop himself in mid air. It was unfortunate, but the throw is the correct decision. I hope Djenepo recovers (but is unfit for next Tuesday!) The Joelinton goal ruled out, was incorrectly ruled out, but there wasn’t enough certainty that it hadn’t hit his arm. Adam Armstrong’s goal was clearly a handball, and as that happened before the ball hit the back if the net, it results in a free kick to Newcastle.
In this game, you make your own luck, and I believe the Saints won’t get relegated. You’ve got the makings of a decent team. Alcaraz, Mara and Orsic stood out for me. Eddie Howe has turned Newcastle into a serious force. It’s been done in the training pitch and those clean sheets only cost a total of £67m. That’s how much, Trippier, Burn, Pope and Botman cost. You have to ask why no-one else bought these players. Van Dijk went from you to LFC for £75m. Alisson cost £80m. Harry Maguire (ha ha) cost £85m. ManU and LFC have conceded 28 goals. NU have conceded only 11. Money is a facilitator, it’s not the answer. What Howe has done is the deploy the resources available to him in the optimal configuration to achieve corporate objectives. In other words, he has managed the resources.
I believe Nathan Jones will keep you up and you’ll end up 13th or 14th. He will rebuild your team and will take a leaf out of Howe’s book by improving your fitness and awareness. The goal had two of your defenders ball watching. That was NU last season…btw you can have Lascelles…..he’d fit in your current defence, but would never play for you next season! Lascelles….ball watcher extraordinaire!
Isak coming on caused us all kinds of problems, serious player you have there. Was equally impressed with Alcaraz for us Thanks for the detailed comment, all of which is fair. Joelinton should’ve smashed home early in the second half, so a goal was definitely coming. Hoping you’re right about our PL season turnaround. Looking forward to the SJP experience next week.

A striker who can find the net would certainly help take the pressure off the rest of the team but it's not going to be easy to attract someone in our current position.

The passions of football, VAR has warped it a little for good or bad, totally feel for you when you got the "equaliser" only to realise that Armstrong thought it was a volleyball game not football. Anyway, the tie isn't over yet despite our formidable record at SJP, I totally expect Southampton to give it a real go, with nothing to lose.
