    Marty is THE most original metal guitarist around- his feel and phrasing are totally unique- he is also a master of composition....technique is secondary to melody- but of course he is also a true master of technique also....he was amazing with Cacophony but has truly matured into another level of musicality

But watching this video you can really see how much his style shines with med/slow ballads. Marty would be an amazing guitarist for any band. But nothing quite captures his talent quite like his self debut albums. I get that now. He truly has found his voice in the guitar.

    By the way, I saw this entire stream live. In the final few minutes where Marty took questions, I threw one in chat and he answered it :) If you were curious, I just asked what his favorite song from Scenes was (I was really into that album around the time the stream happened). He said something about recently playing the album live about a week before the stream at a show, and he said it was good for the time but he would've done a lot of things differently if he wrote the album nowadays.

  • @thecommenter9267
    @thecommenter9267 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Most people don't know this but one of the key factors that makes Marty's sound unique is his strange right hand. The flexed curvature is basically a modified form of the rare Gypsy Jazz style picking, which was invented to create a louder, more aggressive pick attack. He leverages a massive downward pickslant and uses circular thumb picking to get around the string change issue (for example when the pick is below the string and he needs to move to the string above). You can't reach as much consistent speed output with Gypsy style picking as you can with traditional picking but you get MUCH more power. Think of it like the difference between an AK47 and a metronome. AK47 shoots extra fast and clean in short bursts but then soon gets out of control if you keep shooting without rest, but the sound is dynamic and powerful while a metronome maintains consistent high speed, but the sound is rather weak and mechanical.

    Marty is not a random guitar player like Herman. He is a real artist.

    Where can I fild the full video ? I guess its not fair cut Herman Lee parts because he is doing an wonderful job raising funds to Jason Becker

      Without a doubt Herman is an excellent guitarist, but other channels were also posting the complete improvisations and the videos were being deleted! I sent the jam only with Marty's parts to other big Marty fans (like me) and so far it hasn't given any problems
