Tim is an Aussie musical comedian. Considered a bit of a legend here. Usually he performs songs, he’s a brilliant piano player. Comedy songs of course. He also wrote the music for the Broadway musical and Netflix musical Matilda. Incredibly intelligent. And always good fun, but often has a deeper message too. I’m assuming you know Bo Burnham? Bo names Tim as his biggest influence.
Actually he is an ex comedy musician and hasn't released new comedy in over a decade. He is a serious musician, actor, producer, writer, director playwright these days.
"...in for a penny, in for a pound"... such a familiar moment LOL Thank you! Tim is so underrated. Sharp mind, unapologetic tongue... Just brilliant! You'll enjoy the ride, and so will we And thank you for reminding that IT'S COMEDY, PPL, one does not have to agree with his opinions, but funny is funny, man...
As a long time fan of Tim, everything he does is a work of art. He is a truly a lyrical genius. And crazy talented on the piano. Bo Burnham said he gets a lot of inspiration from him. "Prejudice" is probably the most 'reacted to' song of his. Very clever and worth checking out. He also wrote the music for Matilda the musical and the Groundhog Day musical.
Tim’s Australian and a musician who does comedy, rather than a comedian who does music! He’s a maestro on the piano, and I believe this is the only piece he does where he isn’t on the piano. Dark side- awesome version is arguably one of his best especially as you can see his comedy and musical genius all in one.
Just about anything musical by Tim Minchin is worth listening to. Try Prejudice as a start. He is also a wizard on the piano. Tim has also written a couple of musicals.
Why do people always start with Prejudice? Are Minchin fans really unaware of just how much Tim despises and regrets writing it? Oh and no Tim hasn't written a single musical, he is simply just the composer and lyricist for those musicals.
Tim is the son of a surgeon. He's also the composer of the lyrics & score of the musicals Matilda ( now a movie) & Groundhog Day. Tim's pre-West End musical success was his musical comedy. I actually think people are more afraid of uncertainty, which is why the seek simple answers, rather than looking into very complex questions. I'd say the people who believe in magic and other supernatural phenomena find it comforting in a world they don't understand.
Biggest thing my wife and I are teaching our 3yr old right now is to say "No" when we ask her if she knows/understands/remembers something... We want her to say No and question us back and learn
this is not a joke (well not just) it is an important message about logical thinking. these people love certainty. they are vary certain about there stance. they have a problem when the objectively variable answer contradicts the answer they want to be true.
Rewatching this too. Love your reaction to this. 😂 11:49 I don’t think people are scared of certainty. I think people are scared of not understanding the ‘why’ of things. If the truth is too complicated for them to understand.. they’ll reach for a more simplistic explanation that fits with their current ideologies. Whether it’s based in reality or not. Humans are weird man.
Tim has been my hero for many years, and now Ren is too. Both denied record deals, they have made their way independently. Like Ren he is smart, very smart, quick witted, amazing lyricist. Unlike Ren, he never learned guitar, but his piano skills put Ren to shame. In a way it is a shame you began with one of his few non piano songs. His lyrics, also like Ren's can be introspective, but his sense of humour is unparallelled. An Aussie from West Australia, who lived in UK and USA for work. He has a back catalogue of amazing songs and performances. I suggest you begin with his F you to Sony records....."Dark Side" followed by "Rock and Roll Nerd" which tell you a bit about him and introduce his humour and piano skills, then try "Prejudice" and songs like the 3 minute song, Thank You God, Inflatable You and others. Yes, he plays barefoot. His earlier songs, were perhaps written more for (dark) comedy, his later songs are a bit quieter, still lyrically brilliant. My favourite, quiet song is Aeroplane, a melancholic love song Tim wrote a few years ago. The lyrics could only have come from Tim.
@@gailseatonhumbert Thanks for that info. I was going on an old interview he did many, many years ago where he mentioned it would have been more of a social instrument, if he played guitar. I must have incorrectly deduced he did not play from that. I stand corrected. Thanks.
I do think modern medicine is limited, and alternative medicine has a place in preventitive care, but people that dismiss modern medicine entirely are crazy. Tim is a master wordsmith.
I think the uncertainty thing, at least in some cases, comes from not wanting to adjust their view regardless of what facts are presented, because facts are all up for interpretation, and 'I' don't wish to interpret it that way. It also allows people to set their own moral values and if that clashes with social norm, or again, doesn't align with facts, then 'it's all relative'. Tim ability to not only write such a witty monologue, but recite it, too.
