A lot of kids' roles (especially on TV) were/are played by twins. That's how the Olsen Twins of Full House got started on acting. That way, when one twin is tired, cranky, or hungry, the other twin can film the scene. (Plus kids only have limited shooting hours per actor, so it makes sense to have two lookalikes who can shoot the same scenes.)
