Astro 9406F Hose Clamp Clic-R Collar Pliers is what you need to remove / install those hose clamps.
Perfect thanks!
Great video write up. Well done!
Thanks! Super stoked you enjoyed it!
How do you replace the water separator hose?? Mine popped off twice spilling a great deal of diesel in the process. Looking for some help on replacing this part. Thanks
There is an E-clip or C clip that you need to slide it in to lock it down. This is critical so the hose doesn’t pop off
The clip was attached and the hose came off regardless. I am carrying a medium sized load and hauling a car with a tow dolly. Figured this would increase the fuel pressure and it seemed to cause the e clip to fail, this the hose came off twice. How can I replace the water separator hose??@@EventheWavesYT
@JoePfander is it disconnecting lower in the system or at the filter?
The water separator hose is coming off at the connector with the e clip that connects to the built in sensor on the fuel filter (nipple attachment with the o ring). Bought a new fuel filter and a new water separator hose to fix the issue. Any ideas of what might have caused the issue?
Sometimes it seems as though the water separator hose is all the way on, but it really needs to be pushed hard to get all the way on. It has to go past the gasket and then the e-clip will work. I did that one time where I thought it was pressed on all the way and it wasn’t.
Is the 3500 same procedure?
I believe the 3500 has a different spec for the filter. Double check that but installation should be almost identical!
looks like it did takes you 2 years to finished the camper van, maybe that will happen to me too since I work 40hrs and maybe just work on it once in a while.
Yeah it took that long for 2 reasons! I have a bunch of kids, I work 56-72 hrs a week, and I filmed all of it! If I didn’t film it would have gone way faster!
@@EventheWavesYT that's right , same situation here.
don't forget to always replace the rubber coupling in the inlet tube of the turbo.
Thanks! 🤙🏼
the 2007/8 sprinter has a different diesel fuel filter to what you have shown here., Well this may be just for us Aussies ???
🤙🏼 so sorry if I miss led you! This is how you replace the filter! Every rig inbetween those years has a little bit different filter. I believe this is yours amzn.to/4dHCAcO
@@EventheWavesYT Ah bummer.
Apparently amazon said they don't deliver this to Australia
Shoot buddy! It’s all good just grab the numbers and see if Mercedes has it or your local parts shop!
Great job on the tutorial, Sir! You boosted my confidence on knocking out this task. Looking forward to the job and the cost savings is priceless.
You got this!! 🤙🏼 if I can do it you can do it!
I’d be all bloody. Great video, thanks but I’ll have a mechanic do it.
Thanks Steve! Dude you would be totally fine! If I can do it you can too! 🤙🏼
It's actually a torx bolt for the filter holder, but an allen will work
Yeah I didn’t have a torx driver lol 🤦🏼♂️
@@EventheWavesYT I used an Allen for a couple of years until I realized it was a torx. I have a 2006 but just worked on a 2008. These models are more complicated and have sensors and parts that go bad in even more bad places lol. Mercedes engineering at its finest
@frontlinemedia4270 love it! Yeah I just did the brakes and had to replace a couple sensors, still way more straight forward than an EV!
You really should put on new OEM clamps each time. Looks like you reused the old.
Thanks Glenn just did another one and bought new clips!
@@EventheWavesYT Knipex Tools 85 51 180 C, what a pro would use so they don't distort or damage the clamp. This video shows the "250" version which is longer than the "180" version. They make a "85 51 180 C" and a "85 51 250 C" version of this plier. th-cam.com/video/OQ2lShP1N-A/w-d-xo.html
Wow. You really have to dig in the engine to get to the fuel filter! I wonder why MB put it in such a hidden place? So you would have to see a mechanic instead? $$$
Absolutely! MB will charge $1000 for schedule A! And that is just an oil change, fuel filter change, and lubricating the chassis. I believe they top off fluids and do a diagnostic as well. Pretty crazy!
MB puts things in weird places. With all the room under the hood, why did they put the battery under the floor🤦♂️
@stevefarnsworth1811 haha I have been wondering that for years! I have no idea!
MB is a financial terror institution.
Where did you order all those filters.
I got them off Europarts you can also get them off Amazon 🤙🏼
Your pretty handy to have around!!
Thanks!
Great video. Would you happen to know where to get a replacement of the water separator hose retaining clip? Would you have a video how to replace the water separator hose? Does the fuel filter come with a water separator hose?
Here is an Amazon link to what I think you are talking about! amzn.to/4aoblRZ
If you go to a local parts store and ask for a water separator e clip or c clip they should know what you are talking about!
The one that does come with a hose was the first filter that I got in the video!
@@EventheWavesYT yes this is the one . Another question With the water separator hose itself, did you need to replace a new hose since it may has some water residue that might sip into the new fuel filter? Or whether use the existing water separator hose and just reattached it to the new filter? Sorry I have too many questions. I want to be sure to not miss out any details and steps
Yeah of course no worries! So the 2017 2500 3.0 I have does not come with a water separator hose. You use the existing hose and just unattach the 2 fuel lines and the water separator hose then reattach them after switching out the filter.
Thank you. These are helpful tutorial. I'd learned something from you regarding the computer system reset. @@EventheWavesYT
So glad you found value in it! 🤙🏼
So I did this but now it's throwing a MAF code that I can't clear even though it's all plugged in and won't get out of 2nd gear
Bummer! So go back and double check all of your sensors and make sure that they are fully plugged in. If one of them is off you will throw a code. Also while you’re down there again double check your turbo hose connection. It sounds like your turbo hose may not be tightly connected.
@@EventheWavesYT I tightened the turbo hose seems like it worked thank you 👍
@honorableundead2273 nice work! You did it!
best thing i ever did was sell my sprinter, what a piece of junk!
I love mine! 🤙🏼 so far
@@EventheWavesYT good luck with yours, mine was probably the largest financial mistake of my life. engine threw a rod through the oil pan at 67,000 miles. P.O.S!
That is so unfortunate man. I’m sorry!
