Just what I was looking for… replacing the piece of the shroud and bracket that controls the mulch/bag action.. parts are crazy expensive… about $80 for the required parts..excellent video!!

Weirdly enough, I just got one of these given to me. I was surprised to find the deck was plastic.

Screw didn't work. What did work finally was a drill bit just slightly larger than ID of collar. I turned that in by hand until it jammed and yanked up on it while turning. For the benefit of other readers, it's important to not let the drill bit go too deep; that would expand the collar and make it even tighter.
I just got this mower. The clutch cable was disconnected at the transmission . I reattached it, but cable had stretched beyond adjustment limits. Before getting a new cable, I wanted to be sure the transmission worked, so I put spacers under the handle side of the cable inside the large spring
When I did that, the clutch cable was back in the adjustment range, but then the rear wheels wouldn't roll backward. I tried reaching in the mower to see if I could push the transmission lever to the clutch off position, but it wouldn't budge.
In a few days, I plan on removing the transmission. I'm hoping it's just the return spring on the transmission and not the transmission itself.
Your videos are very comprehensive and clear.... Thank you!

Hi, Dan. Great video! I have a HRB216TDA. No mulching arm. Is the 12mm down in the shroud also a nut? The metal piece inside the chute is giving me fits because I can't get a good grip with pliers. Everything else is off. Thanks in advance for your response.

I meant to say is it also a nut on the 216? Wonder if PB blaster would help me to get it to turn freely.

Hi Dan - So here's a question for you. I have a 216 commercial with a rusted deck good engine and good trans. I have a 217 with seized motor, bad trans. I'm thinking of doing the swap, essentially making the 217 deck a commercial. What if any are potential modifications needed? Any thoughts?

I can't think of a reason not to. The plastic deck is not commercial grade but it's really tough. My opinion is if it fits and works then go for it. Good luck!

Having trouble getting the 10 mm bolt behind the left side driven wheel removed. It is spinning the bushing but not coming out. Any suggestions?

Wedge a flat screwdriver in the seam and apply a small amount of pressure.

@@veteranssmallenginerepair5934 Too late....had to drill it out. The damned roll pin in the Driven Pulley was a PITA too. Regardless....repaired.
