Millions of women have been waking up over the past week to the worrying news that the pill, or any other form of hormonal contraception, including the coil can increase their risk of breast cancer by 25 percent. Women have also claimed that contraceptive methods such as the pill have led them to fancying people they wouldn’t usually, and caused an increased low mood. I was on the pill for 28 years. I saw Doctors and nurses over that time and not once did they say ‘you have been on it too long. In 2014 I had bilateral blood clots, one on each lung. I was 47 years old. They then took me straight off the pill and my periods stopped straight away. I went straight through the Change. Perhaps im to blame as well as the doctors for being on the pill far too long. In 2022 I got Breast Cancer. I only knew I had Breast Cancer because I went for screening. I had no lumps I felt healthy. If I had not gone for the 3 year mammogram for Breast Screening the Cancer would of spread without me knowing I had it. I urge every woman when offered Breast Screening to please attend, because not all Breast Cancer shows up as a lump. Thankfully the Cancer was removed and im on the road to recovery.
