  • This is the third installment of a 5 part tutorial series detailing step-by-step how to repaint a 1/6 scale head, specifically the Sideshow Collectibles Obi-Wan Kenobi. In this video I go over the process of painting eyes.

    You've done a man's job, sir. I started thinking about placing a real image of an eye there, a pic, then adding the gloss. Or, painting the eye on a sticker separately, really going for crazy details, then applying the sticker.

    Excellent tutorial - the gloss application before painting the pupil is genius :) Thanks!

    This is wonderful. I always mess up the eyes and I think this is method that will make all the difference to my attempts at repaints! I usually manage everything else including skin textures and eyebrows but I am never happy with the eyes in 1:6! Thanks so much. I will definitely try to get those magnifying specs because the ones I have make things worse Lol!

    That looks like a solid method. Clear after each stage you feel is "done" and you get that erase-ability going on. Drop of clear on the pupil to give a raised lens effect. That's clever. I wonder if a gel would maintain the raised dome look better instead. ? Or let it dry facing down for 2 min then up?
    Thanks for the tut.

      I've tried gel before, but honestly it's such a small area that the thinner clear coat works just fine. But yes, you want to leave the head facing up so the drop has time to dry.

    Great video. So when I get to painting the eyes I should use lilac for the eyewhites instead of actual white? :)

    • @GalactiVids
      @GalactiVids  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, that is correct. It's still a very light (almost white color) but it should still be a noticeably more lilac shade than just straight white.

    Im trying to give a custom Sith look to my hot toys Darth Vader head (no helmet). For whatever reason, Hot Toys painted him with bright blue eyes. Since the eyes are already painted; would you recommend using a fine tip yellow paint marker for the inner portion and red for the outer? I wish I could do your method, but I dont think Im that talented. Thanks

    Want to get a similar Hot Toys head of the Anakin skywalker figure and have the yellow eyes of the sith....
    Have never painted on figures, you have some tips?

    • @GalactiVids
      @GalactiVids  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Calle Nyström I’d skip the first few steps and just repaint the iris and pupil. Paint blood red (mix red, brown and black paint) for the large part of the iris. Then cover most of that with yellow... a few coats may be needed. Once you get the iris how you want then gloss it and do the pupil like I show in the video.

    Hi, I recently bought a 1/6 headsculpt but it has derpy eyes. Can I just paint over the derpy eye and fix it?

    • @GalactiVids
      @GalactiVids  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends... as long as the eye is smooth it would probably be okay. The two problems you could run into is that if the paint on the eye is gloppy that could make it hard to get a good looking eye. And the other is without having primed the head the paint may not adhere as well. I've painted on top of paint before though and in most cases it's fine.

      GalactiVids thanks. I will try. Im so upset that the seller refuses to send me a new one. The right eye is painted in the middle of the karkas which makes him look shook. But his left eye is angry. I really wanted to stay on my budget for this figure and didnt expect to have to buy a whole other head 😕. Hopefully the paint will do

    Is there a name for the type of magnifying glasses you use? I've seen complex looking magnifying headsets and desk lamp magnifiers on sale online but not one that looks like yours. Is there any brand you recommend over others? Any tips for purchasing?

      @GalactiVids  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ZangelDemon I just bought a pair at Hobby Lobby... I don’t recall a name brand. But they were sold as magnifying goggles.

    Great tutorial! I gotta give it a try. Question on the skin tones, do you thin it out with water or other thinner product?

    • @GalactiVids
      @GalactiVids  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Since I use acrylics, it's just use a bit of water. And if you mix up large batches they can thicken up over time, but just a bit of water will sort them out.

      Yeah, I got busy with other things and never finished the series. I have the video shot, just not edited. I will do my best to have it up in the next few weeks.
