      Hello Baby Face P.. just some caution... I noticed the bolt carrier you demonstrated was for full auto.. That might not be too bad but it appears to me that the full auto stop tang on your trigger guard has been removed.. Between the two, it might give the Gestapo reason to pay you a visit ... about 3AM .. you know.. just like in Nazi Germany.. If I were doing this video, I would remove this one and replace it with a video showing the stop tang in place.. or maybe also using a semi-auto bolt carrier.. This is a good series.. I have downloaded all of them.. Thanks for all your hard work..

    I weld and fabricate for a living. There's a million ways to skin a cat. This is a good build for the tools you own and are familiar with. I was thinking of building a stainless steel AK but sort of "redesign" some of the components so I can weld as much of it as possible. I saw your rivet video and good work there too.
    My idea with the rivets is just to just use a different type of fastener that i can just weld into place. Seriously a nut tack welded to a pin that's threaded on the other end or whatever. Tons of options there.
    When it comes to TIG welding the rails, I would just drill a couple of tiny holes in the reciever and clamp together just like you did. With the holes, you just have to add a drop of filler metal and they'll stick together the same as a spot welder. Or I could spot weld using a tig welding machine but I don't like how those kinds of welds look.
    The people who build these things should really consider becoming at lease semi proficient at TIG welding. Yes, my welding machine is $1700 and that is an expensive tool. However, aside from the hydraulic press, I could build an AK with the tools and welder I have in my closet.
    I need to start a build. This one looks a lot more fun than building an AR. Since an AK is all steel sheet metal I can weld whatever the hell I want to anything and the customization is practically limitless. I could weld a hammer or a wrench to the damn thing when I'm done lol
    Good build man and thanks for giving me a closer look at the tooling and materials.

      But yea I completely understand the motivation for making your own. I eventually want to stamp one out of blank sheet metal. Make me feel more self sufficient lol.

    Wow great series. Man i wish this was on youtube in 2015 when i did my 1st one....there was NOTHING to go off cept a forum post with some pictures haha. i did my 1st Bulgarian and it was a tough process (given i was a total noob) but it became the most solid AK ive ever held in my hands. Next was an Egyptian maadi....I got it from a friend who gave it to me before he passed away, he said hes never been able to finish it and he knew id love to build it. I started it a month after his passing and boy it was a nightmare lol, the main stop was the barrel would not go into the trunion, i heated it up, used grease etc, couldnt get it to budge. I had the toth tools barrel populator tool and it bent and ruined the threaded bars. i gave up and was gonna re visit it...but sadly I left it in my garage when me and my EX split up...she stayed in the house and i moved back into my old place, I left it thinking id pick it up one day soon but she moved out without saying anything to me and LEFT my whole kid/parts there...along with my Toth tools set, Vice, and my hydraulic press. I found out a month later. Its def my fault for leaving it thinking id get it in a week or so but damn that was cold of her (shes a super selfish person) The fact that i didnt/couldnt finish that build....and now its gone forever, it honestly kills me . I think about it almost everyday. I know the haters will say "get over it" but i rly cant, the breakup was hard but i cared wayyyyyy more about that kit (she was mean i knew it wasnt gna last) It hurts mainly because my friend couldnt start it and i couldnt finish. Ive never shared this or spoke about it ever. Seeing this video after not even thinking about an AK build for so long..it makes me wanna do another build so bad. Maybe itll help me get over the loss of the 1/6 finished Maadi lol honestly thanks for the content man.

    15/64 is only good on a 1mm receiver. Try and use that same drill bit on a 1.5mm and you will get into trouble. Learned my lesson. Heat treat the receiver before installing the rails.

    GOOD job! Although I've not built an AK, I've fitted gas tubes (new), changed TG's, and sighted in several AK's. The tooling alone for a decent AK build is a small investment. More importantly, learning to hand fit ALL of the parts is a trade skill that takes awhile to learn, if fitting new gas tubes is any indication. John in Texas

    I’d love to finish my Bulg AK 74, but parts kits cost as much as complete imported ones now. I miss when they use to be $499 for a premium matching numbers kit.
    Now idiots want anywhere from $700 to $1,500 per regular ass kit. Where did all the supply go?!

    • @hoxton7946
      @hoxton7946 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      sadly, people bought em. problem with parts kits is that we're fighting with countries who'll pay better for the whole rifles as military surplus or civilian imports. when ya factor in how tedious it is to disassemble them all and cut the receivers, then ship them and deal with customs laws n stuff it really makes it hard

    The adendum to the video about the ejector not needing to be filed is incorrect. The receiver does not yet have the center support rivet, so the receiver is able to flex and allow the bolt and carrier to pass by. Always check ejector / bolt clearance AFTER the center support rivet is installed. Never file the ejector until the center support rivet is installed.

    Hello Baby face,I’ve been building AK’s for about six years now and watched all your videos. I have a question for you.
    On a few of my builds when I go to weld the lower rails in and when I go to re-drill the holes for the center support and the fire control group a few times one rail just popped right off. I’m using a 110 volt harbor freight spot welder with the AK builder tips, and I’m making sure all the metal iscleaned before I weld and then wipe it down with acetone, do you think I should go to a 220 V spot welder? Just can’t figure out what’s going wrong

    I wanted to ask if you ever get small holes when you spot weld the rails? On one of the welds I seen it threw a spark. That has happened to me and when it happens I get a small hole in my spot weld and it looks horrible. Then when I try to fill the hole with weld from my tig welder the hole gets bigger. I was using the same spot welder and tips that you are using. Maybe I am doing something wrong. But I can never get the spot weld to look right.

    Hey Brother,
    I love the channel. I can not find a kit to save my life and want to build one. If I buy a Polish barrel..do I need a Polish trunion ? What are the limitations in critical parts i need to be aware of. I think furniture, receiver, and maybe springs can be made easily but would like to know what has to be matched in the list of parts not easily made.

      Not bad, just more difficult as you need to make sure the forward set back is correct so the trunnion fits properly. Can be done, just more time consuming.

      @@BabyFaceP thanks for the replies... I found on armslist a parts kit that includes a Recreator Blanks 80% receiver that is already bent, trimmed, rails are welded, heat treating is done, magwell and trigger hole are cut and formed, and center support is installed.
      The description says that to complete the receiver, the holes need to be drilled for the trunnions, the trigger group, and the selector. The only thing not included in the kit is screws or rivets.
      My question is, what tools will I need to complete this build?
      Thank you again.

      Heat it cherry red with a map gas torch then quench it in water or oil.

    Awesome. You are spreading great knowledge sir. I’ve always wanted to understand the “rails” thing about this platform/builds. What a cool trick!!!!

    Is it legal to make your own ak in texas?
    do I have to transfer to the FFL with a receiver already been build?

    • @BabyFaceP
      @BabyFaceP  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the receiver has been built it has to transfer through an FFL. Not sure on Texas' laws.
