    I am trying to help people, and I hope that more people check their change because these coins are out there. Here is one being offered at a coin shop for €1,250: www.ma-shops.de/franquinet/item.php?id=58633 . Please at the beginning of the video look at the coin on the right. Focus on the stars. The stars on the right are facing in all different directions. The star orientation is what makes this coin rare. It is called ''Drehende Sterne 1 Euro Fehlprägung'' in German (not my native language). With this term you can search and see what to look for . I have found three of them. Who knows you might find one too.

    Thanks for the info! At first I was confused about the difference then I realized it is the "spinning stars" that was the error, coz the normal stars should all stand upright.

    I have one question, recently i found a one euro coin (I'm from Europe) from 2001, and it has a mario bros (mario) figure on it. It's not that it's painted on, it's like it was a normal back from a euro, but with the mario thing. I have searched on the internet, but i can't find any information. Do you think it's fake or just extremely rare?

      I have never heard of it. If you take a picture you can add it to the foreign coin section at coincommunity.com , it is a forum where you can ask other members for their expertise. I would be interested to see this coin as well. I would keep it and maybe make a video about it. Cool. Thanks for your question. I hope this helps.

    Wow! I didn't know that about the European coins!

    • @ExpatriateAmerikaner
      @ExpatriateAmerikaner  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the German “Drehende Sterne” or turning stars coin (mainly seen on the 1€ coin) is a highly sought after coin that can realize some hefty prices at auction. Non-certified examples sell regularly for around 450 Euros and certified coins can sell for as much as €1200-1300. Guy Franquinet is considered the expert in this field. I don’t hoard the trade secret and want true collectors to also profit if they take the time to check their change.

    I am retired and have been looking for a nice hobby that will help me pass the time and maybe slightly supplement my very meagre pension. Collecting Euro coins looks very interesting, but where do I learn more. I see many videos of guys showing their spoils, but no commentary on it's worth or why it's worth anything at all. Any suggestions will be much appreciated. I should add that I live in Ireland, so I handle Euros quite frequently.

    So my dad also has a really really rare 1 euro coin, it’s even more valuable than these ones... it’s a “reverted 1 euro” as I like to call it... the gold and the silver positions are literally switched. In the normal euro you have the gold on the outside and the silver on the inside, but this coin has gold on the inside and silver on the outside!! It can sell for more than 2000 euros :)

    • @ExpatriateAmerikaner
      @ExpatriateAmerikaner  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, only German coins. As far as I know the 1 German Euro is the most likely to be found (still EXTREMELY rare to find), then the 2€ coin from 2002 but with no year on it with the crazy stars, and I have seen 1 0,50 German coin, and two 0,05€ German coins at auction which fetch almost 2,000€’s easily.

      Knowing is the problem. Not everyone knows about error coins. Smoking kills. It killed my dad when he was only in his early 40's. Good luck finding one.

    i am not even kiddin but i swear there is a silver coin that you can buy for about 90-60 EU, you can also use them in shop or anywhere else as a normal coin, it's worth 50 EU. bztw is is more a thing to took at than to use it, becouse it costs more than it is worth in shop. and ther eiy one gold too that is worth 100 EU. just saying. but these are pretty rare...

    • @ExpatriateAmerikaner
      @ExpatriateAmerikaner  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, some Euro country banks make rare Euro coins that are technically worth the face value of the coin in the country where they were produced. For example up until 2009, Germany issued 10 Euro 0.925 silver commemorative coins and Germans could trade in paper money for these coins at certain bank branches. The coins could/can only be used in Germany and are not legal tender in other EU countries and will not be accepted there. At the time silver was dirt cheap. Nobody ever used them in shops because of the precious metal value. I did have idiots however turning them in at the bank I worked at. I always traded them out with my paper money. Coworkers made in fun of me and said I would never get rich. They didn’t understand collecting and silver. The German Bundesbank now only issue copper/nickel coins for face value and the silver ones cost more than face value to purchase.

      Which one do you have? And does your coin have the tilted stars? If you do then you have a very valuable coin. Considering how many coins I search either you bought the error, found it with incredible luck, or are mistaken.

    Going through the process of obtaining and inspecting 100k coins to maybe find one these is really not worth the 500 euro. Why do you even bother? If you are a collector you might as well buy one.

    • @ExpatriateAmerikaner
      @ExpatriateAmerikaner  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      99.9999% of the coins are only worth €2 or €1. Only face value. Please only compare the stars on your 1€ coin with the coin in this picture ( www.ebay.de/itm/Fehlpragung-1-Euro-2002-F-Drehende-Sterne-Fur-Numismatiker-und-Sammler/263178958649?hash=item3d46b03739:g:BLwAAOSwbm9ZqCoG ). The orientation of the stars is probably not the same. I do not want to disappoint you, but you need to analyze the stars. Worse case make a video where I can see the stars and then I can tell you if you have a coin like the one on the right (stars looking in all different directions). If your stars look like the EU flag then it is not worth anything more than the face value. If the stars look different then it is worth more.

    • @nemanume
      @nemanume 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know what you are sayng, from those 20 one euro coins ,7 are exactly like in the picture . And i can see the difference betwen the stars.
