    “How do two brothers get into the nail care business?” This is the single most common question people ask us. There’s a long and rocky version but we’ll give you the short one. We have our fearless and unconventional mother, Young Salo, to thank. With a single-minded entrepreneurial spirit, she decided to start her own business at the age of 49. She had a passion for the nail industry and we did everything in our power to support her. In the end, this is a family business.
    Greg, the older brother, became a licensed nail technician after switching gears from fire fighter’s training. He is energy personified and has a true passion for developing the best professional nail care products and education. Habib is the younger brother. He jumped in a few years later; taking a detour from medical school and a life in music. He brings his own creative mind for business, marketing and strategy. Unexpectedly, we are a perfect team.
    Today, more than 20 years later, Young Nails Inc., is a professional nail care manufacturing company exporting to over 40 countries worldwide and distributing domestically to over 3000 stores. We’re respected for our next-level product innovation and education. Our mission is to bring you the best quality products and we’ll show you how to use them with incredible results. It’s really that simple.
    Welcome to the Young Nails family!

    Love how this video rings true. I just put a free set on a salon owner last week! My selling point to her was I saw her stained nails( from hair dye) and I told her I have a stain resistant topcoat and colored acrylic ( YN also) that is more practical for her day to day. She’s been sending people my way ever since!

    Legit same. 1 year ago today. Feeling the struggle, I lost all but 1 of my handful of regular clients out of schedule conflict, family crisis, or moving. I needed to get my work out there! Did sets on myself and my daughter, ended up getting my eyelashes done for a boudoir photo shoot, she saw my nails, told me she had been driving 2 hours away because no one in my area did the type of stuff I do. I tell you! Whether I needed or could afford those lashes I went back for a fill! She again said”ugh, I should really try you but I’m really picky” “I said, me too!” She ended up coming and after the first set was hooked! She my biggest billboard as she sees so many lash clients a day, and people just keep converting to me. I’m a SAHM so I work around my 2yo, and have 25 full time regulars. You have to showcase your work!!! 1000%!!! LOVE YOU GUYS! YOUNG NAILS IS MY LIFE! ❤️❤️🙏🙏

    Here’s my two cents and my top two are things no one ever seems to talk about.
    #1 - your salon, if your salon environment, location and parking lot are not welcoming, people will not come back to you, I’ve experienced this and seen it happen to other friends.
    #2 - relying on your customers. Ask your customers a zillion questions. What do you like? What can I do to improve my shaping? Do they lift right away? Do you like my variety of colors? Etc. implore your customers to be honest with you so you can improve your skill set!
    #3 - talk about what you do with EVERYONE lol when I’m ready for new clients all I do is start talking about growing my business with people around me and viola!
    #4 - continue your education! Period
    #5 - BE AVAILABLE! This makes us nuts at the salon. When we have new techs of any kind they think hanging out for an hour at 1pm is all it should take. Sorry, no, your very first clients are going to be weeknights and weekends, be there.
    #5 - is where I finally put social media because from what I have seen, your circle of people around you and your community are who grow your business.
    #6 - have really nice business cards and gift certificates, don’t skimp on quality. Use those to donate to raffles at different events such as high school fund raisers or through your local business groups.
    I absolutely did nails on people to show case my work back in the day because one, I got practice and two even though I did it for free, I felt I was learning how to talk to customers and learn people skills.
    So not sure if this is helpful but it’s what I’ve learned!
    Great biz talk as always! 💗

      As much as this is solid advice I also don't want new techs to believe they should work all hours of the day to be successful. I am a human as well and deserve "me" time and family time. My clients get 2 week nights a week that I then don't work early the next morning. Burning out is the quickest way to hate your job and waking up not wanting to go to the salon speaking from experience. You cannot drink from an empty cup. Rest as well. You don't need to work all the time. Otherwise great advice

    • @mashellvin
      @mashellvin 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bel Amour Beauty this video is on building a clientele and this person is struggling and it’s taking a lone time.
      See you’re decisions you’ve made is what keeps new techs from building a business in a timely fashion. People just don’t seem to quite get the amount of time it takes to build any business, let alone our industry. The rest of your life DOES suffer for awhile while you build. I see that mentality of well, I need “me time” all the time around me and then get told “well, I just can’t build a solid clientele for some reason”
      What you speak of is the reward for putting in the work, if you choose to do it that way then it will take a lot longer to build a solid clientele relatively speaking. There’s always exceptions but new techs need to understand that you have to pay the dues first and that’s the truth of it.

    I am actually in the process of getting set to go to nail school, and my motivation came from my hairdresser of 16 years!
    I've had a love of all things nails since I was a kid (my piano teacher would always write, "Cut Your Nails!" in my notebook.) 😁
    I was in a serious car accident at 19, that rendered me partially paralyzed, yet walking with the aid of crutches. I completed my B.S. in Business Management during my first few years of my 31 year marriage, but never found a job that I liked.
    23 years and two kids later (one in college and one in high school...I'm an "older" mom), and I've rekindled my love of nails, thanks to you guys!
    I met my hairdresser when my daughter was 4 months old (she is now 16), so we know each other well. About 6 months ago, she told me I should open up a business in my own home (my knees finally gave up the ghost, so I'm now in a super speedy power wheelchair, which means not all places are accessible). She, and another hairdresser in the salon told me, "When you get your license, let us know. We have tons of women who are looking for a manicurist with your personality! "

    Hi, I've been in the nail business 32yrs. Cornered the market everywhere I have lived. I moved back to my home and the first ten years were slamming. Now at year fifteen, I've noticed more nail salons moving in. Which is wonderful (Competition breeds success!) I'm seeing these younger girls putting out some great, blinged over the top nails... My clients are dieing off or moving away. Don't get me wrong I still can keep up and I also do lots of speciality pedicures. I own my own nail spa, have plenty of clients, but I'm having a hard time getting newer nailtechs into work. I'm turning too many people away, I'm afraid this is bad. I'm working myself to death! I feel like it's time to start teaching( I have my instructors license) at the local college now....slow down and start giving back. I'm only 48 so, any ideas? I don't want to throw in the towel because I love what I do and all my clients... Thank you

    I know this video is a year old but every morning I sit down to do my press on nails and I watch y'all's videos. They have helped so much with everything I could really even have trouble with.my problem is I'm a stay-at-home mom and I am starting my nail journey. I'm doing mainly press on nails but I'm also doing some sets. But I'm not getting much exposure. I don't go out anywhere really because I suffer from severe anxiety. But my hubby is 1000% supportive and he works at the mall right with ladies at the salon. So he is my "salesman" so to speak lol he is the one out there pushing my nails. Amd he does amazing. But so you have any other advice on tips to get these things going? I would love to at least help make a small profit to help out with bills in my house. And especially with doing something I love so much. Doing nails actually has helped my depression and anxiety in many ways. But anyway thanks for the amazing videos y'all absolutely rock! ❤️

    I believe my biggest struggle in regards to what you 2 mentioned is: when I implement these suggestions - to not becoming discouraged in “continuing” to implement the strategies when for the 1st few years there’s no ROI. People really seem to want quality, but from the salon that’s a penny less. Just my experience with nails. Not so much with hair, but definitely Nails. It’s hard, because I want to completely focus on Nails.

    Ive been doing nails since september. Im still trying to perfect my art and getting client is a real struggle. Especially since im not 100% confident in my skills. But I know what my strenghts are and I looove nails. I only do gels and that kinda blocks me also. Since I just invested A LOT in my gel kit, im thinking i will stick to it since i cant afford right now to buy full kit for resin/powder as well (which is really in demand at my salon). All the other techs are fully booked with Resin exclusively. Im the only one doing gel there.

    I’m sorta late😹on this but I could use help with being consistent. Consistent in time/quality/effort. I’m not 15 and can be in my room all summer after school is out to practice. I’m married, I’m a caregiver, I started recently on my own. I have a lot to juggle. To learn business in a craft alone is rough but still trying to move up in my craft it’s a double whammy with whatever else life throws at me (moving, funerals) and all at once! I also just don’t have a circle of friends n family to help a sis out. I’m def going to use these points they are bullseye for building that momentum for me. But the former about consistency while juggling serious dynamics of life and learning business is what I’m dealing with. I see myself on the other end crushing my goals and slaying nails, I get interrupted so much and it’s hurting my efforts. I feel time is against me even though I hear I have so much time still to start over. I have progress then I step backwards , sometimes only one step and sometimes two and sometimes allll the way back and then some! Halp!😹

However I have found that I have lowered my prices to half of what other techs are charging and people still don’t commit to come in, they go to other shops or girls that do nails at home and pay a lot more than what they would pay with me. I lowered the prices because I was advised to do it since I am getting back I the business and need to grow clientele. But I am thinking that this is not the way to do it. Thank you! Having a struggle with getting followers on Instagram. I've been hitting insta since February and have only gotten 28 followers and i'm fairly certain it's mainly friends and family. This is frustrating because I get a ton of likes but no outside followers. It's like people like my work buddy not enough to schedule or even follow my page. It's getting embarrassing that 90% of my nail photos are my own hand or my dinky practice hand.

    I have worked in commission salons my entire career. I recently started thinking of making a change to booth rental and I’m terrified to do it. The biggest reason though, is that I am in a non compete agreement with my current employer (I can’t work within 10 miles of the salon for a year). I’m scared to lose my clientele. Any advice?

      If they are on a commission base it is more likely you can have more control but also would need to be supplying product and helping for them to further education in order to be able to perform these new techniques. Booth renting is more of their own business where they are able to bring in product lines they would like to work with and expand on techniques and product knowledge.

    I've been qualified for a couple of years now. I have a little salon set up in my house. I was just starting to get a few regular clients when I had to move. Now I'm an hr and a bit from where I was living and starting all over again. My address is on my business cards so I'm in the process of updating them, setting up my new room. I've been thinking about doing this strategy for a while now and actually asked a few of my friends that work in retail to do it for me and got turned down. It's quite disheartening.

      Yea most beauty schools are fairly similar, you are there to complete your hours and get your license the continued education after beauty school is where you really dial in your craft.

      Glorielsa Mejia Social media is a blessing for our small businesses, budgets, etc. But I also find that as a “newbie” you must have a type of tunnel vision. Meaning, be sociable w/o becoming discouraged at what you see from “others”. You will subconsciously judge your growth by looking at other’s feed. And your situations maybe completely different. I think we attract other nail techs 1st. Clients watch from a distance at 1st. This & any business takes ALOT a lot alotta lot of time & effort to grow. Continue to press forward with these amazing tips that they give here & know you’re not alone.
      Lastly - I know most salons are only doing booth rentals these day, but please NEVER booth rent beyond your clientele capacity. Been there, done that...for 3 months🤪

    I’ve worked at a grocery store for 20 years😂. At 43 I’m finally going to Nail School starting April 1! I’m excited and nervous. I have to say to wear your work and be positive and kind to everyone you meet! Everyone who sees my nails says they want to come to me when I’m practicing! My question is : I have a personal Instagram page with 400 followers ( nailaddict13) but should I start a new one just for business?

    • @youngnailsinc
      @youngnailsinc  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is kind of a preference question. If you are comfortable sharing your whole personal life with clients you can combine but if there's some things you'd like to keep private 2 isn't a bad idea.

    I'm a new nail tech! It's difficult getting your first clients in the beginning, but how can I keep them coming back? Any booking tips? I've been working a couple months but I don't feel I have any "regulars" 🤔😊

    • @youngnailsinc
      @youngnailsinc  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      One easy routine to get into is as you are wrapping up suggest she book ahead so she can keep the same appt time. Example: "ok so is this a good time for you? I can put you down the same date and time in 2 weeks." This will create a pattern and they get the appt time that fits there schedule and you now have a re-occurring client. Some booking apps even have "revolving appt" options which is convenient.

      Also you can send them a thank you message after they have been to the salon. A day or so later asking them if they are happy, enjoyed their service and if they could recommend anything that you could improve in. Thank them for their time and for choosing you. After service customer service brings back those clients. Plus clients who book 2 appointments in advance get a gift from me in the form of a cuticle oil. You get those tiny tiny rose oils.

    I am afraid to start my business as a nail tech. I work FT (and I don't like what I do), but freeze to get thing going. I have gone to school but haven't got my license. I'm afraid that I will fail and not have the three steady income. What is your suggestion?

    • @youngnailsinc
      @youngnailsinc  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      great way to start out is if you can kind of balance both jobs to start that way your regular job can cover your bills while you build clientele. for example if you were able to to work your regular job 3 days a week and start doing nails 2 days a week then as you start filling up you can start tapering off from your regular job and start doing more days at the salon.

      I had just moved from the city to my hometown 2 yrs ago and had to rebuild my clientele all over again. I got a part-time job working 2 nights a week in case the salon was having a slow week. It's scary to work for yourself. I just have my notice 2 weeks ago and I'm completely independent after next week. If I can do it in a town with 6 nail techs and only 1500 in the population then you can.

    hi, I am nail tech in UK. I worked 2 years from home and I was tired to bring people to my house and also I wasn't feeling safe, to be honest, I just open my salon 2 months ago. I fell it is a lot of loneliness and hard to bring new clients in. I do models, I use Instagram, I use Facebook to promote my business but I fell I bring in all the people who are looking for a discount. I would like to know more tips about how to get people in my salon who are not looking for just for a discount?

    My biggest problem is i have a full time job and working hard after work when I get home i am so tired as a secretary i get drained by work overload. I dont have any strenght to practice, have clients after work i only can do it on weekends. I still am so so slow and 4 plus hours later, clients xo not stay i have one client only i am fustrated if i make more money than what i earn i can resign. Another thing is in my area techs are around every corner, and they are FAst and their work stands out. I am also ashamed of posting content i only post nail art or workshops i did. I dont have self confidence and i am my worst enemy for everything i always say negative things not to be successful like the people that do it everyday, speed, slow, to tired, etc i think you get the picture. And also j still do not do my filing perfect and this is also a struggle as i am only starting to understand it my 1st educator sucked but after being at Yolande and having good feedback and a one on one i am better i am busy converting and my new educator is so strict and she also let me be a shadow while she is working which was awesome.

    I’ve been doing nails for 5 years now and I have my own space. I have work but not tons of work, maybe I have 10 days always full but the rest of the time I wish I was doing more. My Instagram is @rosablushstudio and I feel like lately it’s been really hard to catch people’s attention, I post at least 2 times a day and do a lot of insta stories and some other days I even show “behinde the scenes” but even doing all that it’s getting me to where I want... how can I improve, how can I have 22 days full of work every month??? I don’t know what to do more 😕

      Make sure along with posting (that's great you post that much btw) that you are engaging with other people as well, like said here in the video go to your cities location and start commenting on pics. Have engaging posts on your page like questions or fun content that people want to interact with. Real life interactions as well, wear your work so when you're out and about if someone compliments your nails it opens the conversation to oh I do nails here's my info.

    Hey guys, I absolutely love this video and it actually gave me good advice on building my brand. I’m a new nail tech and I have only been doing nails for a little over a year now and I love it. I decided to start my own brand which I also plan to come out with an acrylic system product line as well, but I’m and running into the same issues when it comes to clients. This would be my first business and I really want it to succeed but as most new techs trying to get clients have been a struggle with me. I made a business Instagram called @dazzlenails06 and it has been hard to reach out to people to come to my page, I even tried to promote some of my pictures and it doesn’t reach as many people as I thought it would. I feel like building a new business in this industry can be very successful especially with a lot of Ideas I want to do that will separate me from other nail business, but I can’t seem to reach out to the public as much as I would like to.

      You can add glitter , or stamping art to your services! All that is simple additions while still setting you apart. If you are still building throw in a nice hand massage after the set is done, clients would love that!
