@@kalesmythe Yes, they are. I'm amazed that my favorite instrument in the world is also cheap to buy. I live in NYC and learn best one-on-one. I can't find a duduk teacher to teach me.
As an indigenous fluthier, I dream of being in this class of instrument creating. One day. One day. However I only create a simple woodwind instrument..
They sure do use A LOT of ebony wood. Wayyyy more than guitar builders. We use slabs 1/4"(6.5mm) thick. We could get like 12 or 16 fretboards from an oboe blank.
You forgot the most expensive instrument on the orchestra, the bassoon. The normal price for a normal bassoon is between 20 or 40k, the best ones are the double..
Huge generalization. They churn out so many guitars that there have to be lemons by definition. "the best of the best" is the guitar of yours YOU like best. Let's leave it at that. I have two guitars I like better than my Martin, which I also love in its own way.
I've alsways wanted a bell, and finally found a nice quality one that has a nice ring to it, my guess, from its name, is that it's Swedish, but would love a bit bigger bell, not too heavy to carry, that has a deeper ring and would love to have one that also have the aesthetics of the ones made by Marinelli.
I hear either harp or hammer dulcimer, possibly both, I hear something like what we called “bells”, a type of compact xylophone that uses metal bars, struck by a single hard nylon beater, sounds like a triangle, but covers maybe 2 full octaves, a solo flute, and maybe way down in the mix, a standard string ensemble of violin, viola, cello, and maybe a double bass … Is that what you’re asking about?
Fun fact. There have been several blind music tests done where they had the same high professional artists play the same song for a group of other musicians and critics. They played a starter model, mid model, and a legendary "unmistakable" instrument. In all 5 cases i know about the legendary were rated lowest.
Sounds fishy. I wouldn't be surprised if they were tied in some cases, but that still wouldn't be an argument against the high end instruments, because the player's feel while playing is not something you can hear necessarily, but contributes to the performance in a psychological way. I play better on my expensive guitar, not because it sounds that much better, but because I feel so much safer and more supported while playing.
@@Jonathan-hx6oy I'd agree that a brand can't have an "unmistakable sound", but a guitar model sure can. And then any player with a bit of experience could hear the difference between a 150$ version and a 3000$ version of that same model. It's not rocket science.
Only a few companies use African black wood. Oboes are often made from grenadilla wood, a dense black wood that's also used to make clarinets. Grenadilla wood is known for its heft and the ability of its sound to project far, making it well suited for large concert halls

Small error on the Martin section - guitar backs aren't made from spruce, just the top. Typically the back is made from the same wood as the sides.

I love how their work benches/areas are as messy as mine. Great video...thanks
Ms.Emily's Obo playing is wonderful.👍
I wonder if the sitar maker’s brother suggested dying his hair purple. Pretty cool! I can’t believe they’re only $400!! That’s a steal!!

HI from NZ. I am speechless! This is an incredible video. And, to me, vitally important!
Wow so Nice and awesome thanks for sharing 💞😊😊
very good and meaningful
My two favorite instruments here are the tampura and bagpipes, but if I could play any instrument in the world it would be a duduk.
Duduk might be fairly cheap

My oboe is a howarth, and the tone from it is beautiful

fantastic!
they really make these look way harder than it is. the reason they are so expensive is because people keep paying it. they act like its the 1700's

I’ve wanted a high quality hand pan drum for a while but it seems there aren’t many makers and they’re very pricey
The brand Pandadrum are a great brand for the prices an s the brand RAV makes the best but most expensive. I hope that helps.
Cool 😎

Steinway does not cost 80% more than it did in 2004 because of wood.... The cost does not go up 4% every year - that is false.
11mths to build a piano but 5yrs for an oboe that only lasts 5 yrs, oboists are getting ripped off, lol
