Wilco Nienaber has one of the most beautiful swings on golf. Truly poetry in motion. The clubhead lag he generates is off the chain.

These swing videos are phenomenal quality Michael. Thanks for adding the sound.

      Hi Trenton,
thanks - glad you are enjoying the videos. The sound has always been problematic, as the high-frame rate cameras I use (250 frames per second) do not record sound. Some of the subscribers have asked about sound before but it's really quite difficult to capture - as it means I need to shoot with at least two cameras at the same time (i.e. one recording sound at a more normal frame rate) which I can then match to the high-frame rate footage. When I can do this at future events I will try to do this - as I do agree that there's something in the brain that says "that swing isn't very powerful!" if there's no sound with the full-speed version of the swing. And I don't add voiceovers or music as I feel it's better that viewers make their own judgement on what is happening in the golf swing so the videos can sometimes seem a bit 'lacking in something'. Going forward (this might be next year now) I may try to do more to make sure sound is recorded with these swings.
Anyway - sorry for the slightly protracted reply. Keep enjoying the videos, thanks for the comment and congrats on your cool profile image 😉

Wilco really WHIPS THAT CLUB HEAD RIGHT THROUGH THE BALL!
It’s just awe inspiring to watch, listen and absorb all that pure, effortless power!

Interesting! Thank you for the slow motion. I slowed it down even more to 25% and validated something I saw on another video. His arms are the first things to move from the top of his backswing. The hips begin moving simply to get out of the way.

Glad you enjoyed the video. And the use of the arms is often underestimated in coaching. Yes, there is lateral shift (for both upper and lower body - but within quite small margins) but Wilco is using the arms to generate a lot of the speed. I love the width he creates in the backswing first - almost one big smooth setting action (a bit like Laurie Canter). Wilco is 6ft 2inch (which isn't that tall out on tour), but obviously he is very slim and he has great long levers (a bit like Tony Finau whose arms look particularly long!) and he's using them to full effect. His swing is also ready for the forward lean he gets in the shaft at impact - by having his hands low at address, he's able to have the club soled properly when the shaft lean is added through impact, plus it sets his body up for a good rotation in the backswing rather than the upper body being to flat at the top. There's a lot of great things to admire about this swing even if some of these moves would not help everyone. No matter the power he creates there's always great balance and timing to watch. Best wishes
      Michael

use , & . to move frame by frame. His arms are certainly not the first things to move, as if that were the case, he would be technically unwinding from the top - losing all coil. His arms move, but likely because the whole body is moving in transition. It's easier to see arm, clubhead movement over body as they are the furthest objects.
Simply throw a ball some distance, the arm moves but not first & not on it's own.

      @@77bovi I stand corrected 😊

@@mefrankme all the best with your quest :) but certainly it's entirely possible that for some golfer's the feel of moving hands first may result in the proper sequence - if for e.g. hips are moving too early & too much.

Drives the right knee down through impact more than most.

Good Lord, his hips are pretty much perpendicular to the target line at impact…. He must launch the ball a literal mile

In slow-mo I was watching the downswing thinking "Um, are those hips ever going to start moving?" And then, suddenly, they go from square to perpendicular in a millisec.
