Dear Ue, a Turkish Romani Dance. Turkey has about 5 million Turkish Roma citizens. Roma people in general adapt the culture of the country they reside in and they create their dances and music building on the local culture. For that reason if you look at Roma people in different countries you will see that their dances are customized to the traditions, sounds, and rhythms of their local settings. For instance, the dances and the music of Roma people in Spain (flamenco), India (Rajastani), and the Balkans are completely different, they are not even close. Similarly, the Turkish Romani people adapted the 9x8 rhythm which is the core of many traditional folk dances in Western/North Western Turkey (Bilecik, Burdur, Bursa, Edirne, Tekirdag, Kirklareli, vs). If you listen to some famous traditional songs, you will realize that they are based on this unique (aksak) rhythm. Hence the Turkish Romani adopted this traditional Turkish folk rhythm and added their own culture and attitude to it, making it a very unique Turkish experience. For this reason, to answer your question, yes this dance is as Turkish as it gets. Just like the Turkish Romani people are an indispensable part of the Turkish cultural mosaic.
