I think the criticism on Maguire against Scotland was not just purely just against him, but against what many England fans have been complaining about for years under Southgate, the fact that he can not play whatsoever at a club level, even settling for cash to sit on the bench rather than regular minutes, look like a complete meme, score an own goal... None of it will matter, he'll be picked anyways ahead of players who are regular starters for their club, in great form and fully deserve a cap. Him scoring an own goal was just justifying anger against all of this.

Had Maguire transferred to West Ham this summer then it would be a different story. But the fact is he turned West Ham down and so West Ham signed Mavropanos instead. He was given a lifeline to get out of United and yet he said no choosing to sit on the bench at United until at least the January window. His options now if he were to leave United are going to be at a lower level than where the likes of West Ham are right now. Can see him potentially going to Everton, Wolves, Forest or even Luton
@@noahbowie5985 I dont understand why people shit on Maguire for not wanting to move when MU refuesed to honor their contract and pay him his money for leaving. Like I love clowning him as much as the next guy, but MU gave him a contract and should honor it.
In regards to the England team, the criticism should absolutely be directed 100% towards Southgate at this point, not Maguire. Regardless of how good he's been in an England shirt before, if you're playing virtually no club football you're obviously not going to be as well drilled as you need to be. It would almost be forgivable if England lacked depth in central defence, but we don't. Other players who are in much better form are losing out on places because Southgate does not select players based on form, but rather players he likes. It's incredibly frustrating, and it's no wonder fans have lost patience, but Southgate is the one making that stupid decision, and he's the one people should be directing their criticism towards.

I personally feel that instead of using PR to big himself up and being complacent due to a lucrative contract, he should have left for a mid-table club to prove himself there. That being said, I also can't blame him for want the payout, especially when it's a contractual obligation from United
His actions on holiday in Greece told me everything I needed to know about his attitude. He's a wally who's out of his depth at the elite level.

I feel bad for Maguire but he would of been such a good fit for West Ham. The deeper line , the reliance on set pieces with JWP would of really picked up his career . If he doesn’t move in the summer it’ll be such a waste. People forget how good he was at Leicester

He gets a lot of sympathy from pundits and rarely gets called out, which is the kind of treatment foreign players do not get. One example is when Lisandro Martinez took Maguire's place, the media had an obsession with writing Martinez off but called Maguire unlucky and unfortunate. Another thing is, even though Bruno Fernandes was more of a captain than Maguire with the armband, the media likes to slag off Bruno and say that he's a bad captain but they didn't question Maguire's captaincy or character

He did start well though. It’s the years that come after that’ve been the struggle. I’m a Liverpool fan but I defend Maguire regularly. I was gutted when he gave up the own goal against Scotland because I thought his biggest issue was not being utilized properly but I believe that moment signals it’s all getting to him in a way that may not be fixable. He really should have moved to West Ham, would have been immense there but I think it may be too late. Phil Jones 2.0. Different circumstances same result
Harry Maguire has one or two good seasons for Leicester City. That's it. He then climbed aboard the Yernited hype train just like Jadon Sancho, and got found out how good he is really is.

Harry Maguire wasn't a bad center half not too long ago, for Leicester City he wasn't the best defender out there but he played well and for England he was a starter and did brilliant for them in the 2018 World Cup when they reached the semifinals and finished 4th in the tournament. He had 2 decent seasons at Leicester City, hence why so many eyebrows were raised in the summer of 2019, when Manchester United paid around 90 million for him as this made him the most expensive defender in the history of football and some believed he was overrated and some felt like Harry Maguire was gonna make a bigger impact for Manchester United than Virgil Van Dijk for Liverpool and get them back to the top competing for trophies. He had a mixed start to life there, he made a lot of errors, and had brilliant performances, he didn't live up to his transfer fee, but he wasn't terrible at all just wasn't consistent in his game. The last 2 and a half seasons Harry Maguire has been seriously exposed for his lackluster defending. He's out of place, makes too many mistakes every time he plays he lacks confidence and the abuse and constant criticism from the fans doesn't help and it seriously needs to stop.
Maguire in 2021 also have 5 international goals. That’s more than luke shaw and John stones ever had in their career. It’s more than the number KDB and Van Dijk has that year. It’s not too far away from Messi’s and Mbappe’s Goal:game ratio that year, on an international level.

He had a perfect chance to move to West Ham and revive his career playing at a good club playing at a decent level and he demanded over £10m in ransom money from United to get him to move after leading on that he would agree to leave if United and West Ham could agree a deal. Rejecting the West Ham move because he wanted more money was a big mistake on his part because the longer he stays at Man Utd, the worse the abuse will get.
The facts are that he is 5th choice cb at best, he lost the club captaincy, he doesn't fit the team playstyle, the manager doesn't want to play him, but with all that being said, somehow Southgate still picks him for England
The only way he can salvage his reputation is by being in a new environment at a club that will play to his strengths and guarantee him game time. The West Ham move was that opportunity he needed and it came at a good time. He should've taken the way out and moved on but not doing so *could* harm the rest of his career, let alone his public image

Harry Maguire represents everything that is wrong with United under the glazers, he represents the Southgate-favorites shambles, the frustration against him is huge because his involvement in ridiculous things and moments is huge.
I don’t condone personal abuse against someone just because of their footballing abilities, but the critique against him is justified and deserved.
He’s not been playing well, but unlike other players that don’t play well- he is somehow still being paid millions, and still playing for the national team. It’s ridiculous.
He needed to move to West Ham and needed to be dropped from the national team, or at least sit on the bench there too.
His choice to refuse the move and make more money on United’s bench, was very harmful to him in terms of reputation and stature. Sure he’s going to make his money, but the cost is the target on his back, the boos, the abuse, it’s part of the package
No one forced Man U to sign that contract with him. It's silly to expect players to bail out teams by taking pay cuts. No industry works like this.

The biggest problem with Maguire is that he sometimes makes absolutely absurd, inexplicable blunders that simply don't make sense for a professional football player that plays in one of Europe's top leagues, let alone the former captain of Manchester United, one of the most storied clubs in the world. Like the time he pulled down Luke Shaw, his own teammate, to make it easier for the opponent to score. I still, to this day, have no idea what he could have possibly been thinking in that moment.

People forget, that Harry was a member of symbolic team of 3 big international tournaments in a row (WC 18 and 22 + Euro 20). That he actually best player in current English/Man U squad in terms of parking the bus and keeping score in defencive system. He would be great addition to Atletico, Roma and Juve too, and of course West Hem. The fact someone was ready to pay for Harry at such a hard time for him, and even give him Captain shows that Harry is good player, but gets too many hate, which leads to more mistakes, which leads to more hate, and we're in circle

I actually like him when he was in Leicester. In fact I was kinda bummed that he left the club but happy that we got such an enormous amount of money from his sale. Seeing him going down at Utd makes me feel bad but like you said he refused to leave Utd, and that’s his fault. I actually think that he will be perfect for West Ham’s low blocking style this season.

as a football fan from outside the england i can see what is happining over there. united has been great for majority of time but recently they are poor and their rival city is thriving. This is when frustration kicks in and united fan become noisy themselves. They are blaming everyone. pogba lukaku ronaldo maguire now sancho. It is true that they have their own responsibility but such a cruel behaviour was never needed.

Maguire has a good height to fight in long pass. He also has bulky body type to be defender. Sadly, he rarely running and often walk even when enemy striker are running towards united goal.
