    Hey Dave, you don't have to apologize for anything! We watch your channel because we like you and your family, it's not just about the bottles. It doesn't matter if you make a video once a month, or twice a day. I never skip over any of them. I'm sure the rest of your viewers would say the same. Thanks as always... good luck on the next one

      Hi Juney...wow, there are some very old places I'm sure in Southern California...and according to the song, "it NEVER Rains in Southern California"...haha. If there was a schoolhouse built by 1888 then there had to be a lot of houses nearby. California has some of the most valuable bottles in the country, so I hope you can find one. Additional reply…. Lol. That was fun. I loved your surprise guest appearance. There’s no way I could have gotten into that hole. Even if my back had never been injured. You’d have been calling the Fire Department to get me out. I loved seeing the bowls, even broken, there was some big enough pieces that we could really see the beautiful patterns. And that big sugar bowl. I’m amazed that the handles were both still there but it had the broke piece out of the back.
    Also, I’m not positive, but the last part of the video where you showed your face…. Did you get another haircut? See I think there’s a catch for your subscribers to keep on coming back. Come see what Dave’s been doing with his hair. Lol. Thanks for the dig. You guys take care! God bless!

    Just moved to Waimalu/Pearl City from Waianae. Good digging possibilities here too. Found frags of a Hawaiian Soda Works aqua Hutch and have a WWII area I dug some of the 2000s, when I was going to school around here. Knowing a little local history here helps. After the War broke out, most civilian property bordering Pearl was taken by the feds. Good pre-Pro possibilities. Prohibition was enforced in the U.S. Territories, Hawaii &c. Where's your sifter? Those seated Dimes rarely find themselves. The ironstone I find here are British coat of arms marked.

    Hi Dave! Can you please explain what the ''rust layer'' is. I'm assuming that the ash comes from domestic stoves. I don't understand how some of these dumps were created. Thanks.

    • @diggerdaveshovelinshelleyb8057
      @diggerdaveshovelinshelleyb8057  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jonathan....we love hearing from ya! The rust layer is basically from a large amount of tin cans and rusted metal objects that have broken down into rust. Usually, bottles and other artifacts are found in rusty layers. You are right about the ashes....they come from stoves, fireplaces, etc. In dumps like our "jug dump" numerous families and businesses were dumping ALL of their trash in that dump. Privies vary in the amount of trash discarded in them. They were primarily used as a bathroom, but also a refuse pit for food scraps, bones, bottles, etc.

    What do you do with the bottles once you unearth them? Collect them? Sell them? Donate to museums?
    It amazes and sort of shocks me that people would use the toilet as a trash dump as well....Obviously, as it got used over the years, they'd have to be moved to different areas, and tossing trash in would hasten that process. We'll never know, as none of those folks are left to ask! ;-)
    Surprised that it's hard clay--considering the use--it ought to be composted organic matter, and therefore much softer soil...
    What if you ran a metal detector over the dirt you've shoveled out? Who knows what may have been tossed or lost in there?

    Why dont you folks use the skinny pitchforks like american gothic type? Im curious, haha. I know some guys use a stick, but a thin fork would be faster.
