Hi Terry. The new deck looks great and as always the pond and koi look amazing. After watching this video I think it's time you write a book called "Push Button Koi Keeping". Push a button and you top up the pond with fresh water. Push another button and the up filter self cleans. The RDF self cleans and the Bakki river and sieve filter require almost no maintenance. You have what some would call the perfect koi pond. Now if you can figure how to keep the construction dust at bay you'll be all set. Have a great day and stay safe.

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of automation you have created resulting in a truly lovely set up. As you said it was a lovely day here in Lincolnshire Sunday but boy we're paying for it now temperature wise. Looks like you need to wait a couple of weeks before the covers can safely come off. Them gardening slippers ideal for pressure washing they look like my workshop slippers bar all the holes brunt in them from welding hope the dust let's up soon from the builders alot of crap in the river filter this time. I have the up flow filter working down hear it was well worth putting in and working under vacuum with the pump sucking water through. Had a job to get it to boil see video Friday but I then found I had pinched the air line to it later after the video and its looking like I can get 25L more K1 micro in it giving the water about 60cm of it to flow through with 75L total in it

It looks well blocked with dirt. He says it's full of good bacteria. You can see it running across the back of his fry tank. The up-flow filter is sounding good mate, can't wait to see it up and running. I was thinking, that sounds a lot of media, but then I realized you have used a different housing. Yes Terry the tank is semi transparent and at 420 x 420 takes some filling to get a depth of media between the bottom and the outlet its much better now than in the video you will see later in the week as I shut the bottom drain off just left the skimmer going feeding the rest of the filters for 4 hours and boiled the hell out of it for 6 hours on the 190L air pump that got the stuff to settle at water level more than floating and it was flying round by the end. She will take 25L more micro easy and the cost still comes in under the EA Tempest just. Like you show Terry Drum filters are a good bit of kit but lot's more can be dun for the smaller than 60 micron bit's going round the system. Anyone with just on a drum should put some filter wool in the top of there shower for a day then look at it to see how bad it is
Your absolutely right mate. I was amazed just how much dirt the up-flow filter removes after the RDF. I clean it once every 4 days at the moment, but it will obviously be more in the summer. I think their a must have on any pond. I also think a smaller version on an indoor tropical or saltwater tank would work well. Terry.

Don't you get told off for wearing your slippers in garden Terry, I know I do ha ha, that's quite a big swing on your ashp, I've set mine at 0.5, example= set at 14, goes off at 14, comes on 13.5. Upflow filter, amazing what it takes out, mine is up and running now, one oberservaion I've noted is the slower it drains the more fines come out, I've got 1.5 drain tap, and if I only open half way more fines, so your1" drain must be perfect 👌, garden looking tremendous, earn yourself a few brownie points there 😁, Right next project protein skimmer mk2?.

I don't have the ASHP set with a big temp difference. The sun we had heated the pond up to 16c mate. I have mine set at 14.5 to 15c. I am really pleased with the up-flow filter, it does work well. That's why I reduced the outflow to 1" mate. To slow things down when cleaning. The missus is really pleased with the garden now, loads of Brownie points lol. I am thinking about the protein skimmer, but just so busy at the moment. I want to do the protein skimmer a different design to the last one, as a bit of an experiment. High my friend could you tell me what decking paint you used.I have problems with paint coming off when I paint mine .They say Sandtex works ok . Thanks mate for any advice
Hi John, You have to make sure the boards are clean and well dry. I use the Ronseal Decking Paint this time. Last time I used the Ronseal Decking Stain. They both seem to go on well. The first coat we painted by hand which took quite a while, but the second coat I used a long haired sheepskin roller, which was much quicker. I did the whole deck in 30 minutes. i know how you feel we used to have beautiful views until the farmer decided to sell the land behind us and houses where built and as a result our evenings got shortened by the houses blocking the summer sun from 8 pm in the summer, we hate it

Your absolutely right mate. I was amazed just how much dirt the up-flow filter removes after the RDF. I clean it once every 4 days at the moment, but it will obviously be more in the summer. I think their a must have on any pond. I also think a smaller version on an indoor tropical or saltwater tank would work well. Terry.

Hi Dave, No mate, I didn't bother sterilising the media as it was new. If your thinking of using the K+ media, have a look at my video on it. If your using the K1 it should be ok.

Don't you get told off for wearing your slippers in garden Terry, I know I do ha ha, that's quite a big swing on your ashp, I've set mine at 0.5, example= set at 14, goes off at 14, comes on 13.5. Upflow filter, amazing what it takes out, mine is up and running now, one oberservaion I've noted is the slower it drains the more fines come out, I've got 1.5 drain tap, and if I only open half way more fines, so your1" drain must be perfect 👌, garden looking tremendous, earn yourself a few brownie points there 😁, Right next project protein skimmer mk2?.
Hi Marek, Lol, yes I do get in trouble mate only she wasn't there lol. I forget to change them until I step in some water and my feet get wet lol. I don't have the ASHP set with a big temp difference. The sun we had heated the pond up to 16c mate. I have mine set at 14.5 to 15c. I am really pleased with the up-flow filter, it does work well. That's why I reduced the outflow to 1" mate. To slow things down when cleaning. The missus is really pleased with the garden now, loads of Brownie points lol. I am thinking about the protein skimmer, but just so busy at the moment. I want to do the protein skimmer a different design to the last one, as a bit of an experiment. High my friend could you tell me what decking paint you used.I have problems with paint coming off when I paint mine .They say Sandtex works ok . Thanks mate for any advice
Hi John, You have to make sure the boards are clean and well dry. I use the Ronseal Decking Paint this time. Last time I used the Ronseal Decking Stain. They both seem to go on well. The first coat we painted by hand which took quite a while, but the second coat I used a long haired sheepskin roller, which was much quicker. I did the whole deck in 30 minutes. i know how you feel we used to have beautiful views until the farmer decided to sell the land behind us and houses where built and as a result our evenings got shortened by the houses blocking the summer sun from 8 pm in the summer, we hate it
