They idea of these films are meant to exaggerated in terms of a comedic effect, much akin to Jackie Chans movies including Police Story. What Bruce didn’t understand is the level of seriousness he should’ve turned down with this style, since he’s trying to show the difference between him and average fighters in this film. Accompanied by the bad english dub, it made majority of the fights in this film look poor. Had he actually developed the choreography for other people and not himself, I think it would’ve worked a lot better.

He did the best he could with the offer he had thro movie making at the time to make his fighting style known. Which got him killed in the end. Much respect to him!

Obviously you haven't seen the movie. He swore an oath of non-violence, which his mom's necklace was a symbol of. Once they tore the necklace off, he gave in.
Not because he got hit, but because they break his convenient necklace. That necklace was given to him by his mother like a promess from him to not fight again, no matter what. (The mother has seen him fight so many times and get into troubles). Nothing to do with his ego.
