    Your content has been the most helpful I have found for the abeka books. Thank you for sharing!

    I love how they break up blending words/sounds with those big flash card pages you have in a binder. Abeka is such a solid program. 😍❤️

    I love the way abeka simplifies the rules and sounds into repeatable sentences that just seem to stick with you! I just have a Kinder student but I am learning the beauty of “spiral” type learning

      I honestly still remember them from when I was in 1st grade. Agree, they stick with you 🤣 spiral learning works really well for us too!

    I feel like this was made for me this morning 😂 I am so torn between using Abeka or Sonlight for kinder. I think I am going to use Abeka for the order of the letters so that we can use all the extra materials like the blend ladders and flash cards. Then just add in a few other things

    So you supplement with TGATB? Or supplement with abeka? I know you do a lot of comparison videos between the 2. Im a new homeschool mom & enjoy your videos.
    I was contemplating between the 2 & went ahead and got TGATB to try out (preschool) & math K. I have k4 abeka now to start after we finish the preschool next month. we have really enjoyed TGATB though! I already go back and forth on it without trying abeka yet! I have seen so many videos on how solid abeka is. I possibly shouldn’t have started with TGATB, so I wouldn’t have this bias already lol. Picking a curriculum is so hard!! But I’d love to see a video of what you use currently, or if you’re supplementing with certain books?

    • @thepracticalhomeschooler
      @thepracticalhomeschooler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For kindergarten she used Abeka for LA and no supplements. For math she used TGTB and just did the Abeka worksheets as her supplement

    What size binder do you use for your phonics flashcards?

  • @neishakelly

    Your video has got me one step closer to abeka( as I have researching a lot on it). However would you say accreditation isn’t necessary for K5, but it is perhaps better for the next level (1st grade)?

    • @thepracticalhomeschooler
      @thepracticalhomeschooler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don’t think it’s necessary at all to be honest! It’s a lot of extra work

    I'm sorry if this is a silly question but what did these lessons looks like towards the beginning of the year? We just started using Abeka K5 a few weeks ago and the lesson plans are a lot. But obviously we haven't gotten into any of the special sounds yet so I'm trying to think of how we could make our day a little more like yours.

    • @thepracticalhomeschooler
      @thepracticalhomeschooler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly I don’t LOVE the k5 lesson plans. It is a lot (the 1st-3rd grade are much easier in my opinion). I would quickly read over the LA lesson and then choose which sections I wanted to teach and Skip others. Don’t feel the need to do everything! It’s too much!

      @@jennakelly4446 hi Jenna! If it helps I've been doing Abeka the past 3 years, this year I have a 1st grader and we are still skipping parts of the lesson plans! Like Lauren, I focus mainly on the blends and Handbook For Reading, and the workbook pages. I don't even own the cards with the photos, but it's okay if you do, because they help a lot, we just like to be minimal. We still manage to hit all the important parts of the Lessons even though we aren't doing all the additional things. Lauren talks on this in another video, "make the curriculum work for you!" I'm honestly sticking with Abeka for Language Arts for as long as I can because it is SO effective and straight forward, and spiral method. I wish you the best of luck with it!

      @@GardenMinistry. wow that is very helpful, yes! Thank you for taking the time to help. I really appreciate that. I'll look for that video as well. I definitely am feeling more comfortable making tweaks now that we are a bit more used to it. But it's still only been 6 weeks so all the input is incredibly helpful

    My 5 year old does the "look at the picture, guess the word" trick sometimes, instead of sounding it out. lol. I of course notice immediately, b/c the word he says is nowhere near the word he is pointing at. Sometimes, he tries to avoid sounding out words.

    • @thepracticalhomeschooler
      @thepracticalhomeschooler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right? It’s so funny when the word they guess is like “hippopotamus” and you’re like…I’m pretty sure they didn’t put that word in a kindergarten reader 😂

    Hi just wondering how long a typical language arts lesson takes you each day? Thanks!

    • @thepracticalhomeschooler
      @thepracticalhomeschooler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ooh…This was from last year so I’m trying to remember haha. But everything including the lesson and reading and pages…idk maybe like 30-60 minutes-ish?? We broke it up into section and honestly I never really clocked it to see how long it took…so this is just an estimate. In other words…it didn’t take 5 minutes but it didn’t take 3 hours.

    Can i use the K5 letters and sounds just on its own with another reading curriculum i am doing?

    • @thepracticalhomeschooler
      @thepracticalhomeschooler  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could but the way they teach phonics and when it’s taught (like the scope and sequence) probably won’t line up
