Lovely looking bike, I’m curious about the Aeolus RSL bars, are Madone frames coming with those instead of the previous aero bar stem combo, or did you specifically request the RSL bars? I’ve just ordered a frame and was asked which bar stem size I would like but I’m now curious to know what the frame will come with?
Excellent video and build.. I have a 2020 Madone SLR Project One, the ISOSPEED bolt assembly and Press Fit bottom bracket have been disappointing at best, both replaced several times with no final fix, a clear design failure. So glad Trek went to the T47 BB, hopefully they'll revise the ISOSPEED bolt assembly loosening. Otherwise I really like the bike, just wish I'd know these early design problems before spending $11K...
Heyhey TJ i have a trek madone slr7 segafredo team replica coming june 9 2022(its a 2022) ur issue with the iso speed has me concern since i too spent$11k as well.would u mind sharing with me ur experience / issue with me thanks usmc retired
@@bigdiesel6912 Trek changed the BB to T-47 which seems to have resolved the BB issues with the press-fit that I have. I changed to the BBInfinite ceramic BB and its been great. The ISO-SPEED bolt and nut are still a constant issue with continually loosening, Trek Store replaced the entire assembly, but the bushings still wear after a few 100 miles and the seat post sways like a sail. I've had countless cyclist riding behind me and say "Your seat post loose and/or swaying, is it supposed to sway like that?" I'm 6'3", 225lbs and the issue continues. Several local cyclist had their seat post crack, Trek warranted it and most have replaced their Madone's with the Emonda, fewer parts. Trek needs to decide if the Madone is a 'RACE' bike or not, don't try to make it an all-around bike. Design and make the bike for what it's purposed, flat out speed and aero... Otherwise, I like the Madone platform, its handling and performance but they need to redesign and get rid of the ISO-SPEED. Make it a RR and Crit killer with compliance... not a cruiser.. I too have a considerable investment in this bike, several aftermarket upgrades.
This is probably the best bike build vlog I've ever seen jon. Brilliant. I never realised that much went into a build. And the bike looks, as you guys say awesome !!!! Brilliant jon brilliant. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👍😁
Love the paint job. Thanks for the video. Wow you have of tools. I could not do this build at my current tool level. Why did you start the handle bar wrap at bottom with tape at the top? I like starting at the top with no tape and pushing the tape ends in to the bars at the bottom. Very clean look. Just my thought.
John, awesome video. Question How tall are you? I see your Madone is a 54. i have a chance to get a new SLR9 size 54 custom paint project one and I'm like 5' 10.5" and worried it might be a little small for me. I currently ride a Pinarello and it measures 54.6cm.

@@jonmaloneycycling7593 right, I am only quoting 1.97 kg for the frameset from the website. According to your measurements in the video, the combined weight of frame and fork is 1471g. Everybody says Madone is heavy, but 1471g is not heavy at all. Anyway, very nice video👍
Hey Jon, amazing build, I was debating between this frame and the emonda in the same colour way but ended up going the emonda upgrading from the SL 5, just curious what you did at the start of the build at the thru axel threads
The frame doesn't even come with threads? You have to tap everything? Interesting. Is it cheaper to build it yourself? I would love to build my own bike. I have rebuilt sport quads from the frame up and it very satisfying when finished. Beautiful build BTW.
It came with threads, but because its painted, the paint gets in the threads and clogs them up. I all depends on the cost of the parts, and if you already have some. In this case. I had a lot of the parts on hand.
The filming makes it take way longer, because I have to get my wife to do it and it needs to be on her schedule as well. For instance I would working on it at 10pm, but she wouldn’t want to film at that time, so it makes it drag on. Without filming, it would take me about 4 hours, all in. Maybe double that with filming.
I'm trying to build mine myself too. But I can't get the frigging shift and break cables through the "integrated" stem/handlebar! I can get it through the frame easily enough. Maybe a dental pick would help with the handlebar.
