Ripping and Tearing Yeah but swadian knights are an exception. They have powerful maces. shields, amazing armor, and the horses are really just an armor object that the enemies sometimes hit instead of the knight and a speed boost.
The Rhodok Sergeant is my favourite, it is about as strong as the Nord Huscarl but it uses blunt weapons for extra prisoners and they also wear your banner on their shield and their armour
Adam Ruzic Big Rhodok fan myself, but I think the Huscarl, if you have time to train them, beat R-Sergeants, because they mop up sieges, whereas sergeants war hammers don't have enough range to establish and expand a beachhead. Otherwise, the Huscarls are generally better in most ways on the field, and provide the best infantry money can buy. That being said, i'd go for Rhodoks any day (the color coding is too good)
Rory Schmidt Getting the Huscarls take soooooo long. I joined the Khandate and have a bunch of horse archers mixed with some Vaeger archers. I was thinking of going to the roadoks to get some tribesmen and train them to get sergeants
capture them as prisoners then make camp and ask them if they want to join... note: you will lose morale and theres a chance they run away at night plus only a 50% chance they will join so keep trying lmao

I know it's already been said, but yeah Rhodok Sharpshooters are better. Whenever I see those green tunics across the field, I prepare my armour for a penetration the likes of which has never been seen. Not only do they do a lot more damage than Vaegir Markman (best bow unit regardless, but in troops crossbow > bow), but their stopping (stunning) power in each shot is significantly higher, making them able to 2 shot most units in the game.
Man, if only they had better AI for the Khergit horse archers... also, the horse ARCHERS can spawn with javelins and a sabre and shield. Horse ARCHERS.

I love the non faction units myself, particularly the sword sisters and Slaver chiefs. Sword sisters use courses, sabres and plate armour. They are a wind of death on the field while slaver chiefs use war horses and great hammers which can crush through any shield (even huscarls) with enough momentum. For ranged units I like the sarranid skirmishers because of their high damage jarids and light but protective armour.
Khergit units (any) are best for a starter army. Vaegir has the best all-round marksmen with the best accuracy, but Rhodok crossbowmen are the most deadly because they break shields faster and take down heavy units better. Nords have the heaviest infantry so are your go-to choice for siege assaults. Likewise, Rhodok sergeants are your best bet for defending a castle. Whereas Swadia has by far the strongest knights. Sarranids are probably the most balanced faction and they are equally good in all fields.
i've found the nords to be a rock solid faction all around i try to form up a big group of infantry and spec into the training perk a bit, hunting sea raiders provides a pretty good income and levels you and your troops up pretty fast, the nord veteran archer isn't bad if you can get them on a rise behind a shield wall and have them hold fire until the enemy gets kind of close. they also aren't bad at sieges with their axes.. I've often thought the rhodoks were meant to hold the walls while the nords were meant to take them
Sarranids are the most balanced of the factions, in other words they don't excel at anything, which is why I don't see any point in recruiting them. They aren't the worst faction overall imo, that "honor" goes to the Vaegirs because of their low armor and lack of shields, but none of their units are exceptional so I never recruit them. It's better to have excellent infantry, ranged units and cavalry from three different factions than decent ones from one
The Rhodok Sergeant will actually defeat an equivalent number of Nord Huscarls in combat due to their awesome armor, awesome shields, and armor-piercing military hammers. I think it's an often underestimated unit. They also train way faster than the Nord Huscarl. Even when I'm charging around slaughtering an AI army with Swadian knights, Rhodok Sergeants are the one unit that feels like it can stand up to me and inflict casualties. The Huscarl's main advantage, and it's a huge one, is that it can really mop up low tier troops.
No the seargents lose a straight up fight on level ground against Huskarls but if you have some seargents and sharpshooters no army stands on the way of the rhodoks
Huscarls have insane stats that's why even if you give them stick they will slaughter anyone. They have 7 ironflesh and power strike. The 2nd highest is swadian knight and hired blade with 5 of each
Really feel that for their price and capabilities at that price, the horse sisters are amazing. And it's easy ranking them up and get them from bandits and raiders who take female peasants prisoner regularly. They feel like the perfect auxiliary troops in the game, because they are so versatile, good in sieges, and good on field. Would have put them at least at number 10
I'd have enjoyed to see where Sword Sisters come on this list if they could be included. I find them very good but a pain in the ass to get. I'm currently tearing my hair out trying to get a nice big army of them. :D
My 10 favourite troops (excluding the obvious ones like in the video). These are not in any order. 1) Hired Blade: Same stats with swadian knight, it was cavalry in early versions of the game and it still counts as cavalry, that's why they don't slow down your army. 2) Nord Veteran Archer: Assign them to melee, tell them to stop fire and charge. Sit and watch how they slaughter knights, sergeants, huscarls and other powerful units. 3) Sarranid Master Archer: Slightly worse than vaegir marksman in terms of archery but not as squishy as it and also is much better in melee. 4) Khergit Veteran Horse Archer: You remember the scene when 10 of your knights chase 1 of these guys in the entire map and your other troops other gething slaughtered because they are outnumbered. Yea, this is my favourite divide and ocnquer troop. 5) Nord Warrior: This is the most abundant nordic troop. They are superior to other units in their tier. You don't need huscarls, sergeants and other expensive troops. When you have these as infantry, know that you are safe. 6) Sarranid Skirmisher: The only unit in the game that can 1 shot Swadian Knight. 7) Vaegir Footman: They are poor, but once they get the 2h axe, they can inflict a lot of unexpected damage. 8) Vaegir Veteran: Same with Vaegir Footman, but is also realiable as a Tier 3 unit. A mixed army of Nord Warriors and Vaegir Veteran (all dismounted) can be really dangerous. 9) Rhodok Veteran Speraman: The absolute cavalry butcher. Also they perform quite well in melee. They are the also anti-huscarl infantry. Huscarls have a hard time with their short weapons killing these guys. Btw, AI is very good at using spears on foot, they backpeddle and take the adventage of having a long weapon. 10) Sword Sister: The kamikaze warrior. They inflict a lot of damage with a mere sabre, they have the best body armor of any troop in the game. They sometimes spawn without helm so they are risky to use. But these girls can really kill huscarls or knights without trouble.
Awesome list, pretty unique to see the tribesmen make it into your top ten, was expecting something just composed of each factions best units and nothing else, but you made this enjoyable to watch
I agree with the Swadian Knights being #1 On one of my files, I have a group of 50+ Swadian Knights and I can just steam roll pretty much anything that attacks me or I attack, even castles.
Also even tho this is an old video My favorite is the Huscarl, no discussion I get maybe three casulties per a huge outnumbered battle with them, and the Nord Veteran Archers are my second favorite Nords because Valhalla Khergits are good troops too when they are on your side When they are not..... I will offer some counters for the infamous Swadian Knight: 1) Rhodok Veteran Spearmen: Swadian Kinght or Khergit Skirmisher. They are the bane of all horsemen. 2) Nord Veteran Archer: Underrated archer. The strongest archer in melee. This is the only archer that can survive a Swadian charge. 3) Khergit Veteran Horse Archer: The perfect troop to distract knight and disrupt the charge. 4) Sarranid Mamluke: On par with knight, these are as tanky as them. It is pretty much like anti-knight. A mixed army of 80 of these will destroy the 80 swadian knights.
What? Rhodok Sharpshooters and Sergeants both have heavy board shields and war hammers. You could use sharpshooters as your infantry, their about as good as Swadian (whatever the immediate sergeants downgrade) are for holding a front line. Also, I was referring to Rhodok sergeants on the front line, as when you actually try to make a good army rather than knight-spam, you can actually diversify and specialize.
If we're talking about all kinds of units, my top list would be as follows: 10: Nord Warrior. They're not veterans, but that's a decent mid game troop that can hurl javelins and axes before engaging in melee. They have good armour and a good weapon. 9: Nord veteran archers. They're not formidable, but they kinda just exist and you can get them easier than Vaegir and especially Sarranid archers, as they start with tier 2. 8. Sarranid master archers. Very deadly with their rapid fire bows, my personal favorite type of archers. Their downside is that they're hard to get, as they have to go through being skirmishers, which become obsolete when out of jarids. 7. Huntress and Camp Defender. I reassign them from infantry to archers cause they often get crossbows. They're women, so they automatically make life better and really help if your ranged units are engaged in melee. 6. Hired Blade and Mercenary Swordsman. They're pretty bad overall, I just like them for the drip. Can be used as your own faction troops which won't get penalty on morale when at war with anyone. 5. Mercenary Cavalry. Best mercenary unit, they can become the core of an upstart king's army if the Swadians lose too much morale. 4. Khergit Lancer. The only Khergit unit that still kicks some ass even without a horse. Easy to train and replenish, unstoppable with horse archers. 3. Rhodok Sharpshooters. They're as easy to get as Nord Archers, but actually good. Best siege unit in the game. 2. Rhodok Sergeants. Military hammer is the best weapon in the game, and they bring tons of prisoners, even more than Mamelukes, while being pretty cheap. Just stonks unit. 1. Swadian Knights and Sarranid Mamelukes. Both completely overpowered, with Swadian Knights being the force of pure destruction and Mamelukes being the second best for destruction, but way better for economy. Honorable mention: Vaegirs! If some factions have horrible troop branches or don't have some at all (Imagine strong Sarranid and Khergit infantry, Nordic and Rhodok cavalry, or actually good mercenary ranged units, lol), every Vaegir troop branch is good. They have shock infantry which ditches shields to leroy jenkins into battle with two handed weapons, best archers in the game and decent knights. All top tier Vaegirs are good.
Sarranid skirmisher have proven their worth for me every time. They are very cheap and easy to upgrade to, and when en masse defending castle or hill they simply pay of, and it is ok if you lose lot of them, they are back in just days. Justa let them hold the top of hill and soften incoming attack, then charge in counterattack while you strike with heavy cavs from the back... Cheers!
I will stick with my Vaegir Knights. Once annihilated an army of 1000 with around 90 of them. Lost 60 though, but since then they will always have a special place in my heart.
My standart army and strategy: 1 - Swadian Man-at-arms or Knights (following player and weakening the enemy army) 2 - Nord recruits to Huscarls (holding ground and protecting archers) 3 - Vaegir archers holding ground (behind melee fighters) P.S.: at the end, when the enemy is close to the melee line, charge them with the melee fighters Average player army casualties = none
Except for a swadian knight. But seriously though, an army of knights dominates any army in the field, including huscarls, however huscarls would win in a siege

This should tell you how much I enjoy having Swadian Knights: in late game seven of my companions have basically the same gear setup as a Swadian Knight, then add some range weapons such as jarids or light crossbow for certain situational usefulness.

The one thing that makes swadian knights superior in melee than most other troops is thanks to the mornigstar. Thanks to the ability of crushing blocks they can oneshot most units on the frontlines using shields.
I usually played with Khergit troops since the Lancers and Horse Archers can be pretty deadly, the only downside of Khergit is that they don't have any ground units only horse.
Swadian Knight is just freaking broken xD, im surprised that Khergit Horse Archers are not there, they may not be strong, but they are hard to catch and incredible annoying, good video :D
Jovan Tomic Rolf is better, you'll have to give him more but he usually makes friends with the other Lords and tries to promote them which is handy in boosting 2 or more relations at once.
It is not because native settings reduce dmg to your troops so always you will have superiority try turning off the handicaps and u will see even with bad AI without mods that it will have different scenario
Personally my favorite unit in the game and what I believe to be the best is the Rhodok Sharpshooter. They MELT castle defense in sieges. They have massive range, accuracy and damage per shot. They have board shields to absorb hostile missile fire. They have great armor and weapons and are very good in close quarters. They just excel at being a jack of all trades. There basically tier 3-4 infantry with crazy good crossbows and accuracy. 👌
I also pick the Swadian Knights as my top choice. However, on the beginning of my gameplay I joined the faction side which was at war with the Swadians, I looted heavily on every Swadian village and gained negative relationship score with the entire Swadia. Thus, I had a hard time recruiting Swadians.
I came into the mount and Blade scene long after the strengths of these units was realized. Truthfully, I can not wait to get my hands on Bannerlord and test out all the new troops and theorize about army comps and strategies. 2017 please come soon...

I do wish mount and blade had the ablitiy to just, like, hold a pike out, and do what a pike was meant to do. Kill knights. Just have a pike formation, but, nope. It's why the Rhdoks I have a love hate relationship with.

The best system I found, recruit a bunch of Swadian knights, put them on hold in battles, then kill as many enemies as possible yourself. Then when you run low on health, send in the knights to mop up. Good way to rank up faster.
Can't wait for #MountAndBlade2 #Bannerlord -- I love the #Huscarls. I usually get a blend of the too tier units. Since this game allows you to recruit units from various races... I us usually pick q unit class 1 tier for each race. Or simply the best the race has to offer... 1. Huscarls best at everything! Can siege and defend castles. They pretty much kill everything. 2. #SwadianKnights basically they can chase and finish off everything. Doubles for castle defence and sieges. 3. #RhodokVeteranSpearman great for AntiCav... but positioning is very important! 4. #VaegirMarksman are beast at archery. Fast rate of fire... I've seen them mow lines down before the enemy even engages!! I don't do the #Saranids or #KhergitKhanate but I'll consider using #SaranidsMamlukes for gold farming. I also like the #HiredBlade and #SwordSisters for hired mercenaries and/or freed peasants.
the vaegir troops have already proved to be extremely effective and cheap. i am currently using a vaegir only army and it can pwnage any faction eez. it has the best archers, great cavalry and good infantry.
No love for Sword Sisters I see. They may be fragile, but sending them in as the 2nd wave after the enemy formation is broken up, they just blaze over the battlefield
Swadian knights and Nord Huscarls are "fire and forget" battering ram type troops. Making them the best units in the game. XD Though I'm just biased towards fielding an entire army of Sword Sisters. Just the thought of having a full army of fighting ladies under your command seems awesome. XD Not too mention Sword Sisters are much cheaper then Swadian knights or Huscarls, while still being able to go toe to toe with their male counterparts the mercenary cavalry and often win! ^^
A perfect counter to 80 Swadian Knights is 80 Slaver Chiefs. Their shields don't deform/break after sustaining couch lance damage and their blunt weapons are great against heavy armor. Top 1 unit is obviously your companion above 30 lvl.
The Huscarls are good, but a theoretical (I haven't tested this myself) are the Vaegir Guards. While vulnerable at long range, they have heavy armor and heavier axes that make short work of shields, one of the main advantages of any Nord army. In combination with Vaegir Marksmen, they can soften them up for a charge of knights. Though I've never had to deal with that many Huscarls before.
i feel like yes there is definitely a statistically best unit, but it really comes down to play style and build really, obviously for defending a castle your gonna want a shit ton of archers but in a field battle your gonna want cavalry to close the distance on archers and outmaneuver infantry where as infantry is mainly good for sieges, but i also wouldnt discount the power of a line of archers to clear out as many units as they can followed up by a cavalry charge
For infantry obviously either nord huscarls or rhodok sergeants. For ranged obviously either vaegir marksmen or rhodok sharpshooters. For cavalry obviously either swadian knights or sarranid mamalukes. This is by far from what i see the most accepted setup.
I love your factual presentation behind your opinion, and this video gave me insight to some great units I've over looked. But as you asked, I'l share my own pitiful list. #1: Syrnidad Mamluk (x100) #2 Swadian Knights (x15) I prefer Mamluks for their high armor and raw power, but I keep 15 Swadian knights in front of them because they're more inclined to keep their shields up in the early going, so they keep the lancers off my Mamluks.

Knights are a little stronger in a head to head charge yes, but Mamluks are far better at siege offense thanks to their mace allowing them to smash through the troops at the top of a ladder or siege tower and get onto the castle or town wall. Mamluks are equally good at defense in sieges too.
I agree.. on field Swadian knights were almost impossible to stop but you can force them to unmount and go toe toe on mountains. However in a castle nord huscarls cant be beaten. Gimme 30 huscarls and I can take any castle
Completely agree with 1st place. My swadia play through has been the most successful and the nords and rhodoks are getting absolutely destroyed by our armies.
Well new to this game and my options is a mix of calvery , mercenary calvery, Slaver Chef's and Swadian knights.. 12 of us killed 30 mountain bandits in less than a min. Found my new farming spot to grind and get full Sargent's and some Calvery with bows . Set a line of Sargent's to block arrows incoming then use archer calv for return fire from behind and wait for them to get close on a hill top would be nice then push through with calvery full speed sounding everyone charge !!!
Interesting list. I'd go: Khergit Tribesmen, Nord Warriors, Sarranid Master Archers, Rhodock Veteran Spearmen, Khergit Veteran Horse Archers, Vaegir Marksmen, Rhodock Sergeants, Rhodock Sharpshooters, Nord Huscarls, and Sarranid Mamlukes. Tribesmen for the same reason you quoted, Nord Warriors are cheaper than Veterans, easier to train, and still fight above their weight class. Master archers are great and have better armor/swords than Vaegirs, too bad swords don't mean much for archer units. Rhodock spearman, for the same reason as yourself. Now Khergit Horse archers are one of a kind and should be higher, but they're too situational. Vaegir marksmen are the best ranged in defending castles, second best in the field, and can drain a garrisons reserve when used in mass, but they're shitty armor keeps them from getting any higher. Rhodock Sergeants are the toughest defenders, whose board shields make the best walls. When combined with Marksmen, they're almost impossible to attack in a Siege. Now Sharpshooters make the best attackers in a siege, and their armor makes up for their rate of fire in the field. When you combine sharpshooters with Huscarls, no castle can withstand. I won't argue that Swadian Sergeants have heavier armor which gives them an extremely slight edge when climbing ladders, but in general heavy armor is best for horse riders, not infantry. The Huscarl's speed makes them better in the field, and their axes bust through shields in Sieges. So Huscarls and Rhodock Sharpshooters to attack, with Rhodock Sergeants and Marksmen to defend. Also I really don't understand people's obsession with Knights. Now they're cheaper and tougher than Mercenary Cav., but their horses are slow, and their bodies are even slower in sieges. Mamlukes, are faster, and have maces that not only capture, but also smash shields in sieges. Mamlukes are the only unit with an advantage against knights. If you put Mamlukes with Horse Archers in the field then no army can best them. Conclusion: Mamlukes and Horse archers in the field; Huscarls and Rhodock Sharpshooters to attack fortifications; Rhodock Sergeants and Marksmen to defend. Now those may sound like opinions, because they are, but those are closest you'll get to facts in Mount & Blade Warband.
my favorite units (no particular order): khergit skirmishers (great early cavalry) sword sister (plate armor makes them basically invincible) rhodok sharpshooter (obviously) slaver chief (like swadian men at arms, but they take prisoners) vaegir guard (make great backlines and are cheaper than huscarls) nord huscarl (high dmg, high def, throwing axes) jeremus (boost to medical skill early on is a huge help) khergit veteran horse archer (set command to follow, then run circles around them) sea raider (whenever you can hire them, do it. they are very low cost and decent, versatile units) swadian skirmisher ( great low cost unit that works well in sieges because its ranged and melee) nord trained footman (power spike between footmen and these is huge)
Honestly me and 10 swadian knights have stayed alive longer than the whole rest of my armies. They're just a staple of the swadian army. I've only had one lord (gwaidian or whatever) ever beat me in the tournaments, straight up one shotting me with a lance sometimes. But when I join him swadia lurks lmao

Adam Ruzic Big Rhodok fan myself, but I think the Huscarl, if you have time to train them, beat R-Sergeants, because they mop up sieges, whereas sergeants war hammers don't have enough range to establish and expand a beachhead. Otherwise, the Huscarls are generally better in most ways on the field, and provide the best infantry money can buy. That being said, i'd go for Rhodoks any day (the color coding is too good)

I see. I prefer firerate over firepower, but Rhodok Crossbowmen are definitely a good pick.
I know it's already been said, but yeah Rhodok Sharpshooters are better. Whenever I see those green tunics across the field, I prepare my armour for a penetration the likes of which has never been seen. Not only do they do a lot more damage than Vaegir Markman (best bow unit regardless, but in troops crossbow > bow), but their stopping (stunning) power in each shot is significantly higher, making them able to 2 shot most units in the game.

With my army of 80 swadian knights I took out over a thousand troops and had about 10 casualties

Swadian knights cost alot so I think it balances out.
With swadian knights you can easily conquer a castle and get enough money to pay the upkeep.
It´s so hard to get anywhere in Swadia because of Harlaus´s feast addiction.
The key is to join someone else and conquer Swadia. That way, only the player character has Swadian units.

Sarranids are weak af. Their castles are a bit stacked cos they got 200 troop garrisons but besides the Mamelukes u can counter everything very easily

I love the non faction units myself, particularly the sword sisters and Slaver chiefs. Sword sisters use courses, sabres and plate armour. They are a wind of death on the field while slaver chiefs use war horses and great hammers which can crush through any shield (even huscarls) with enough momentum. For ranged units I like the sarranid skirmishers because of their high damage jarids and light but protective armour.
I'm doing a playthrough like this now, being able to just stomp whoever and moral not be affected is awesome!!

Khergit units (any) are best for a starter army. Vaegir has the best all-round marksmen with the best accuracy, but Rhodok crossbowmen are the most deadly because they break shields faster and take down heavy units better. Nords have the heaviest infantry so are your go-to choice for siege assaults. Likewise, Rhodok sergeants are your best bet for defending a castle. Whereas Swadia has by far the strongest knights. Sarranids are probably the most balanced faction and they are equally good in all fields.
Sarannids have good archers and cavalry but their infantry is wretched.
i've found the nords to be a rock solid faction all around i try to form up a big group of infantry and spec into the training perk a bit, hunting sea raiders provides a pretty good income and levels you and your troops up pretty fast, the nord veteran archer isn't bad if you can get them on a rise behind a shield wall and have them hold fire until the enemy gets kind of close. they also aren't bad at sieges with their axes.. I've often thought the rhodoks were meant to hold the walls while the nords were meant to take them
Sarranids are the most balanced of the factions, in other words they don't excel at anything, which is why I don't see any point in recruiting them. They aren't the worst faction overall imo, that "honor" goes to the Vaegirs because of their low armor and lack of shields, but none of their units are exceptional so I never recruit them. It's better to have excellent infantry, ranged units and cavalry from three different factions than decent ones from one

How to win in singleplayer: Army of sole Swadian knights and Khergir Horse archers. Mounted melee+mounted archers= total victory
The Rhodok Sergeant will actually defeat an equivalent number of Nord Huscarls in combat due to their awesome armor, awesome shields, and armor-piercing military hammers. I think it's an often underestimated unit. They also train way faster than the Nord Huscarl. Even when I'm charging around slaughtering an AI army with Swadian knights, Rhodok Sergeants are the one unit that feels like it can stand up to me and inflict casualties. The Huscarl's main advantage, and it's a huge one, is that it can really mop up low tier troops.
No the seargents lose a straight up fight on level ground against Huskarls but if you have some seargents and sharpshooters no army stands on the way of the rhodoks

Huscarls have insane stats that's why even if you give them stick they will slaughter anyone. They have 7 ironflesh and power strike. The 2nd highest is swadian knight and hired blade with 5 of each

Really feel that for their price and capabilities at that price, the horse sisters are amazing. And it's easy ranking them up and get them from bandits and raiders who take female peasants prisoner regularly. They feel like the perfect auxiliary troops in the game, because they are so versatile, good in sieges, and good on field. Would have put them at least at number 10

I'd have enjoyed to see where Sword Sisters come on this list if they could be included. I find them very good but a pain in the ass to get. I'm currently tearing my hair out trying to get a nice big army of them. :D
They die at the huntress stage so easily. It's easy to throw the peasants in the back row but when they get crossbows they draw so much aggro.
My 10 favourite troops (excluding the obvious ones like in the video). These are not in any order.
1) Hired Blade: Same stats with swadian knight, it was cavalry in early versions of the game and it still counts as cavalry, that's why they don't slow down your army.
2) Nord Veteran Archer: Assign them to melee, tell them to stop fire and charge. Sit and watch how they slaughter knights, sergeants, huscarls and other powerful units.
3) Sarranid Master Archer: Slightly worse than vaegir marksman in terms of archery but not as squishy as it and also is much better in melee.
4) Khergit Veteran Horse Archer: You remember the scene when 10 of your knights chase 1 of these guys in the entire map and your other troops other gething slaughtered because they are outnumbered. Yea, this is my favourite divide and ocnquer troop.
5) Nord Warrior: This is the most abundant nordic troop. They are superior to other units in their tier. You don't need huscarls, sergeants and other expensive troops. When you have these as infantry, know that you are safe.
6) Sarranid Skirmisher: The only unit in the game that can 1 shot Swadian Knight.
7) Vaegir Footman: They are poor, but once they get the 2h axe, they can inflict a lot of unexpected damage.
8) Vaegir Veteran: Same with Vaegir Footman, but is also realiable as a Tier 3 unit. A mixed army of Nord Warriors and Vaegir Veteran (all dismounted) can be really dangerous.
9) Rhodok Veteran Speraman: The absolute cavalry butcher. Also they perform quite well in melee. They are the also anti-huscarl infantry. Huscarls have a hard time with their short weapons killing these guys. Btw, AI is very good at using spears on foot, they backpeddle and take the adventage of having a long weapon.
10) Sword Sister: The kamikaze warrior. They inflict a lot of damage with a mere sabre, they have the best body armor of any troop in the game. They sometimes spawn without helm so they are risky to use. But these girls can really kill huscarls or knights without trouble.
Awesome list, pretty unique to see the tribesmen make it into your top ten, was expecting something just composed of each factions best units and nothing else, but you made this enjoyable to watch

I will offer some counters for the infamous Swadian Knight:
1) Rhodok Veteran Spearmen: Swadian Kinght or Khergit Skirmisher. They are the bane of all horsemen.
2) Nord Veteran Archer: Underrated archer. The strongest archer in melee. This is the only archer that can survive a Swadian charge.
3) Khergit Veteran Horse Archer: The perfect troop to distract knight and disrupt the charge.
4) Sarranid Mamluke: On par with knight, these are as tanky as them. It is pretty much like anti-knight.
A mixed army of 80 of these will destroy the 80 swadian knights.

What? Rhodok Sharpshooters and Sergeants both have heavy board shields and war hammers. You could use sharpshooters as your infantry, their about as good as Swadian (whatever the immediate sergeants downgrade) are for holding a front line. Also, I was referring to Rhodok sergeants on the front line, as when you actually try to make a good army rather than knight-spam, you can actually diversify and specialize.
Nord huscarls and rhodok sharpshooters/vaegir marksmen is literally the best combo in the game, swadian knights are utterly meaningless.

If we're talking about all kinds of units, my top list would be as follows:
10: Nord Warrior. They're not veterans, but that's a decent mid game troop that can hurl javelins and axes before engaging in melee. They have good armour and a good weapon.
9: Nord veteran archers. They're not formidable, but they kinda just exist and you can get them easier than Vaegir and especially Sarranid archers, as they start with tier 2.
8. Sarranid master archers. Very deadly with their rapid fire bows, my personal favorite type of archers. Their downside is that they're hard to get, as they have to go through being skirmishers, which become obsolete when out of jarids.
7. Huntress and Camp Defender. I reassign them from infantry to archers cause they often get crossbows. They're women, so they automatically make life better and really help if your ranged units are engaged in melee.
6. Hired Blade and Mercenary Swordsman. They're pretty bad overall, I just like them for the drip. Can be used as your own faction troops which won't get penalty on morale when at war with anyone.
5. Mercenary Cavalry. Best mercenary unit, they can become the core of an upstart king's army if the Swadians lose too much morale.
4. Khergit Lancer. The only Khergit unit that still kicks some ass even without a horse. Easy to train and replenish, unstoppable with horse archers.
3. Rhodok Sharpshooters. They're as easy to get as Nord Archers, but actually good. Best siege unit in the game.
2. Rhodok Sergeants. Military hammer is the best weapon in the game, and they bring tons of prisoners, even more than Mamelukes, while being pretty cheap. Just stonks unit.
1. Swadian Knights and Sarranid Mamelukes. Both completely overpowered, with Swadian Knights being the force of pure destruction and Mamelukes being the second best for destruction, but way better for economy.
Honorable mention: Vaegirs! If some factions have horrible troop branches or don't have some at all (Imagine strong Sarranid and Khergit infantry, Nordic and Rhodok cavalry, or actually good mercenary ranged units, lol), every Vaegir troop branch is good. They have shock infantry which ditches shields to leroy jenkins into battle with two handed weapons, best archers in the game and decent knights. All top tier Vaegirs are good.
Sarranid skirmisher have proven their worth for me every time. They are very cheap and easy to upgrade to, and when en masse defending castle or hill they simply pay of, and it is ok if you lose lot of them, they are back in just days. Justa let them hold the top of hill and soften incoming attack, then charge in counterattack while you strike with heavy cavs from the back...

I will stick with my Vaegir Knights. Once annihilated an army of 1000 with around 90 of them. Lost 60 though, but since then they will always have a special place in my heart.
My standart army and strategy:
1 - Swadian Man-at-arms or Knights (following player and weakening the enemy army)
2 - Nord recruits to Huscarls (holding ground and protecting archers)
3 - Vaegir archers holding ground (behind melee fighters)
P.S.: at the end, when the enemy is close to the melee line, charge them with the melee fighters

This should tell you how much I enjoy having Swadian Knights: in late game seven of my companions have basically the same gear setup as a Swadian Knight, then add some range weapons such as jarids or light crossbow for certain situational usefulness.
And what Veager Knights? They have excelent stats and someone have big axe.
No shields. They just get knocked out too much. Heavy Cavalry with 2 handed weapons is better for your companions since they can't die.
Vaegir Knights are good too but they have less HP, 1 less power strike, and slightly inferior armour to Swadian Knights.

The one thing that makes swadian knights superior in melee than most other troops is thanks to the mornigstar. Thanks to the ability of crushing blocks they can oneshot most units on the frontlines using shields.

Jovan Tomic Rolf is better, you'll have to give him more but he usually makes friends with the other Lords and tries to promote them which is handy in boosting 2 or more relations at once.

It is not because native settings reduce dmg to your troops so always you will have superiority try turning off the handicaps and u will see even with bad AI without mods that it will have different scenario
Personally my favorite unit in the game and what I believe to be the best is the Rhodok Sharpshooter. They MELT castle defense in sieges. They have massive range, accuracy and damage per shot. They have board shields to absorb hostile missile fire. They have great armor and weapons and are very good in close quarters. They just excel at being a jack of all trades. There basically tier 3-4 infantry with crazy good crossbows and accuracy. 👌

The best system I found, recruit a bunch of Swadian knights, put them on hold in battles, then kill as many enemies as possible yourself. Then when you run low on health, send in the knights to mop up. Good way to rank up faster.

Since this game allows you to recruit units from various races... I us usually pick q unit class 1 tier for each race. Or simply the best the race has to offer...
1. Huscarls best at everything! Can siege and defend castles. They pretty much kill everything.
2. #SwadianKnights basically they can chase and finish off everything. Doubles for castle defence and sieges.
3. #RhodokVeteranSpearman great for AntiCav... but positioning is very important!
4. #VaegirMarksman are beast at archery. Fast rate of fire... I've seen them mow lines down before the enemy even engages!!
I don't do the #Saranids or #KhergitKhanate but I'll consider using #SaranidsMamlukes for gold farming.
I also like the #HiredBlade and #SwordSisters for hired mercenaries and/or freed peasants.
the vaegir troops have already proved to be extremely effective and cheap. i am currently using a vaegir only army and it can pwnage any faction eez. it has the best archers, great cavalry and good infantry.
No love for Sword Sisters I see. They may be fragile, but sending them in as the 2nd wave after the enemy formation is broken up, they just blaze over the battlefield
AND what's really important, sword sisters are MUCH cheaper to utilize, and their horses are faster

Also, I found them most effective against Khergits. With their shields and fast horses, the horse archers don't stand a chance
Rhodok sharpshooters are my favorite. I love setting them to volley on some high ground and watching the world burn.
mamelukes the best cavalary
Swadian knights and Nord Huscarls are "fire and forget" battering ram type troops.
Making them the best units in the game. XD
Though I'm just biased towards fielding an entire army of Sword Sisters.
Just the thought of having a full army of fighting ladies under your command seems awesome. XD
Not too mention Sword Sisters are much cheaper then Swadian knights or Huscarls, while still being able to go toe to toe with their male counterparts the mercenary cavalry and often win! ^^
Straight up fight in equal Numbers? No if they can fire a few volleys of their crossbows before. Yes
A perfect counter to 80 Swadian Knights is 80 Slaver Chiefs. Their shields don't deform/break after sustaining couch lance damage and their blunt weapons are great against heavy armor. Top 1 unit is obviously your companion above 30 lvl.

The Huscarls are good, but a theoretical (I haven't tested this myself) are the Vaegir Guards. While vulnerable at long range, they have heavy armor and heavier axes that make short work of shields, one of the main advantages of any Nord army. In combination with Vaegir Marksmen, they can soften them up for a charge of knights. Though I've never had to deal with that many Huscarls before.
i feel like yes there is definitely a statistically best unit, but it really comes down to play style and build really, obviously for defending a castle your gonna want a shit ton of archers but in a field battle your gonna want cavalry to close the distance on archers and outmaneuver infantry where as infantry is mainly good for sieges, but i also wouldnt discount the power of a line of archers to clear out as many units as they can followed up by a cavalry charge
For infantry obviously either nord huscarls or rhodok sergeants.
For ranged obviously either vaegir marksmen or rhodok sharpshooters.
For cavalry obviously either swadian knights or sarranid mamalukes.
This is by far from what i see the most accepted setup.
I love your factual presentation behind your opinion, and this video gave me insight to some great units I've over looked. But as you asked, I'l share my own pitiful list. #1: Syrnidad Mamluk (x100) #2 Swadian Knights (x15) I prefer Mamluks for their high armor and raw power, but I keep 15 Swadian knights in front of them because they're more inclined to keep their shields up in the early going, so they keep the lancers off my Mamluks.
High armor and raw power?What're you talking about Swadian Knight is better armed and has higher power stats than Sarranid Mamluke.
@@AFT_05G Versatility is what I'm talking about. Knights are a little stronger in a head to head charge yes, but Mamluks are far better at siege offense thanks to their mace allowing them to smash through the troops at the top of a ladder or siege tower and get onto the castle or town wall. Mamluks are equally good at defense in sieges too.
I agree.. on field Swadian knights were almost impossible to stop but you can force them to unmount and go toe toe on mountains. However in a castle nord huscarls cant be beaten. Gimme 30 huscarls and I can take any castle
Completely agree with 1st place. My swadia play through has been the most successful and the nords and rhodoks are getting absolutely destroyed by our armies.
Well new to this game and my options is a mix of calvery , mercenary calvery, Slaver Chef's and Swadian knights.. 12 of us killed 30 mountain bandits in less than a min. Found my new farming spot to grind and get full Sargent's and some Calvery with bows . Set a line of Sargent's to block arrows incoming then use archer calv for return fire from behind and wait for them to get close on a hill top would be nice then push through with calvery full speed sounding everyone charge !!!
Sword Sisters have tanky armor, horses and crossbows. Can't beat that combo. Works for sieges and open fields.

Interesting list. I'd go: Khergit Tribesmen, Nord Warriors, Sarranid Master Archers, Rhodock Veteran Spearmen, Khergit Veteran Horse Archers, Vaegir Marksmen, Rhodock Sergeants, Rhodock Sharpshooters, Nord Huscarls, and Sarranid Mamlukes. Tribesmen for the same reason you quoted, Nord Warriors are cheaper than Veterans, easier to train, and still fight above their weight class. Master archers are great and have better armor/swords than Vaegirs, too bad swords don't mean much for archer units. Rhodock spearman, for the same reason as yourself. Now Khergit Horse archers are one of a kind and should be higher, but they're too situational. Vaegir marksmen are the best ranged in defending castles, second best in the field, and can drain a garrisons reserve when used in mass, but they're shitty armor keeps them from getting any higher. Rhodock Sergeants are the toughest defenders, whose board shields make the best walls. When combined with Marksmen, they're almost impossible to attack in a Siege. Now Sharpshooters make the best attackers in a siege, and their armor makes up for their rate of fire in the field. When you combine sharpshooters with Huscarls, no castle can withstand. I won't argue that Swadian Sergeants have heavier armor which gives them an extremely slight edge when climbing ladders, but in general heavy armor is best for horse riders, not infantry. The Huscarl's speed makes them better in the field, and their axes bust through shields in Sieges. So Huscarls and Rhodock Sharpshooters to attack, with Rhodock Sergeants and Marksmen to defend. Also I really don't understand people's obsession with Knights. Now they're cheaper and tougher than Mercenary Cav., but their horses are slow, and their bodies are even slower in sieges. Mamlukes, are faster, and have maces that not only capture, but also smash shields in sieges. Mamlukes are the only unit with an advantage against knights. If you put Mamlukes with Horse Archers in the field then no army can best them. Conclusion: Mamlukes and Horse archers in the field; Huscarls and Rhodock Sharpshooters to attack fortifications; Rhodock Sergeants and Marksmen to defend. Now those may sound like opinions, because they are, but those are closest you'll get to facts in Mount & Blade Warband.

khergit skirmishers (great early cavalry)
sword sister (plate armor makes them basically invincible)
rhodok sharpshooter (obviously)
slaver chief (like swadian men at arms, but they take prisoners)
vaegir guard (make great backlines and are cheaper than huscarls)
nord huscarl (high dmg, high def, throwing axes)
jeremus (boost to medical skill early on is a huge help)
khergit veteran horse archer (set command to follow, then run circles around them)
sea raider (whenever you can hire them, do it. they are very low cost and decent, versatile units)
swadian skirmisher ( great low cost unit that works well in sieges because its ranged and melee)
nord trained footman (power spike between footmen and these is huge)
Honestly me and 10 swadian knights have stayed alive longer than the whole rest of my armies. They're just a staple of the swadian army. I've only had one lord (gwaidian or whatever) ever beat me in the tournaments, straight up one shotting me with a lance sometimes. But when I join him swadia lurks lmao
I remember having a army of 80 in warband and attacked a army of 20 Swadiands and they cut down my entire army
