পৃথিবীর ফুসফুস খ্যাত আমাজন বন পৃথিবীর সবচেয়ে বড় বনাঞ্চল। মহাবন আমাজন ৯ টি দেশের প্রায় ৭০ লক্ষ বর্গকিলোমিটার এলাকা জুড়ে বিস্তৃত। আয়তনের দিক থেকে আমাজন বাংলাদেশের তুলনায় ৩৮ গুণ বড়। সমগ্র পৃথিবীতে যত রেইনফরেস্ট আছে তার অর্ধেকই হল আমাজন। এই বনে ৪০ হাজার প্রজাতির প্রায় ৩ হাজার ৯০০ কোটি বৃক্ষ রয়েছে। পৃথিবীর মোট অক্সিজেনের ২০ শতাংশ উৎপাদিত হয় আমাজন বনে। আমাজনকে রেইনফরেস্ট (The Amazon Rainforest) বলা হয়।
আমাজন নদীই আমাজন বনের জীবনীশক্তি।
আমাজানে এখনো এমন ৫০টির বেশি স্থানীয় উপজাতির বাস আছে, যাদের সঙ্গে আধুনিক পৃথিবীর কোনো যোগাযোগই নেই।
