    I had an element gatekeeper with the IFS front and I really liked how it performed. But then again I had it with the IFS front with the addition of having it with a 4ws setup,lol. Both IFS and solid axle rc crawlers have there place. Both have advantages and disadvantages but me personally it's a matter of what each person prefer to have there setup as

    I brought one of these a few months back because of your review. I love it! mine has had a handful of upgrades such as a Hobbywing 2100kv Axe and a bunch of scale accessories and new wheels (still using the stock tyres as they are awesome once broken in) Keeping it all scale though. The IFS hasn't hindered me at all, in fact I find it makes me a better driver as I'm paying more attention to the terrain and picking lines through obstacles. Where as a solid front axle is kind of like a cheat mode at times.
    The wife loved driving it too so just recently picked up the Trailrunner for her as its on a heavy discount from Modelsport, once the weather improves I hope to get some videos of it up on my channel.
    Cheers Tomley!

    Went through all the comments here and very surprised no one mentioned the Trailrunner. Been out a very long time, the IFS is offered separately as a kit, and it's in top 10 crawler lists all the time. Great truck. Ifs runs a different line but it only hinders climbing, not crawling. They're both phenomenal trucks from Enduro/Associated

    I have a Trailrunner that I've probably put more than 100 miles on. The metal ball studs and plastic rod ends don't really hold up over time. You'll find your lower arms popping first then your upper arms. This might not be so bad except for the fact that if you pop in an area of really thick grass or something then you might lose the dogbone cup thing that connects to the front diff and never find it again. It eventually does get really bad because it'll start popping like crazy and you'll never get anywhere. I'm currently in progress of doing redneck engineering to solve this problem. I think I used M4 hex cap screws, matching nuts, and a pack of Element plastic ball things which I'm using in place of the balls of the ball studs. You have to bore out the plastic ball things to get the screws through. I think the plastic balls are M3 normally, but you need M4 screw to securely slot into the steering knuckle. Use some threadlock on the nuts and when you're all set, dremel off the excess length of the screws and smooth it all over so your tires don't get caught on any sharp edges and get torn up. This will make long term maintenance more difficult, but it'll keep your balls from popping out.

    • @timcustomrc
      @timcustomrc 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wear pants to keep them from popping out 😂
      Nice fix idea for the arms. Have had a few pop out on mine, haven't lost a drive cup yet. Using the bowhouse rc parts really helped with steering.
      Being available as a kit is awesome!! Built an 8x8x8 using 4 kits, video on my channel. Currently building a 4x4 with 2 kits and the knight custom high clearance parts.
      Overall nice front end.

    I got a Gatekeeper and a Knightrunner, and am returning the Gatekeeper. I like the realistic and scale aspect. I want to build a dropped faster 2WD pre-runner version that can also drift. Wish they offered a white body like my real one, and white is generally easier to layer over. 90's Sunfire Red Metallic was their nicest red IMO. Pair it with an SC10 and I'll bet some of the parts can be shared. That course is awesome too!

  • @rc-shedshakedown3191
    @rc-shedshakedown3191 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Guess it's a different "scale" approach, beacuse with a lot of real modern 4x4's a solid front axle is an option/aftermarket part you have to install.
    So I'd just look at the options that are out there to give it some more mid clearance and of it goes.
    It's good that this is out there; different..but not new, if you just want to trail and have IFS...hello CC-01!
    By the way: even Orlandoo is making IFS models now :D

  • @300bhpton
    @300bhpton 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As the truck still has a live rear axle it compensates for the front having less flex (just like real 4x4's). Although clearly still a limitation. If you had IFS and IRS it would be a very different story.

  • @BlueDually4x4
    @BlueDually4x4 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Except for the 4x4 3/4 and 1 ton Ram and Ford trucks, all pickup trucks are IFS and solid axle in the rear and have been for decades now. Well except the Honda Ridgeline as it is full independent. The only reason people hate IFS is they don't want to take the time to work with it or spend the money for a proper performance IFS kit.

    Knight Customs have developed and has a 3D kit to improve the ground clearance better steering angle and greater suspension travel makes it work like a solid axle performance wise. Like this truck not into crawling but would turn it into a Pre-Runner or class 8 trophy truck, give it better handling and faster that would be my route get the Lexan Pre-Runner fenders to cover the tyres better once it has a wider track.

    It can work. It is weaker by design simply because the c.v. joints are never straight with a solid axle there only not straight when turning. Ifs does normally have better travel for hi speed stuff like irok, koh, and desert racing
