My wife and I were married in St. Chads in 1972. It was always of great interest to me even as a boy growing up in Kirkby. We emigrated to Canada in 1975 but always make a point of visiting St. Chads whenever we visit family in the UK.
I just loved the teacher telling off the boys for fighting in the 70,s. I went to Ruffwood, I heard one teacher mentioned by the name of Mr Godfrey, who I seem to remember somewhat. Also of Mr Strickland or something like that. It brought a lot of nostalgic memories back to me. Is there anything at all on here about a school called Rushy hey, which I was also a pupil of in Kirkby Liverpool. However, that one was only a junior and infant school. I attended there from the age of 4-11. I would love to see some pics of it, if any do exist now. Ann Adderley nee Allen.
I was in Darwin and remember Mr Strickland with his nipple on his head lol. Don't remember Rushy hey in Kirkby as it closed in late 60s. I was in ruffwood from 77 to 82. my brother was in from 74 to 80.
I used to ride in Ruff wood in the 60's and The name Strickland rings a bell, from a few places I expect it must have been a local "sur name"my mother taught in the area first Davenhill in Aintree then Christ Church Aughton and lastly before we moved away Huyton with Roby close to that church I seem to remember but it was over 50years ago.
Ann, you might be interested in a Ruffwood School reunion in 1999 on you tube. You will see Mr Strickland and many others from the school from 1959. I posted some comments on it. Sadly Rushy Hey school was demolished in the late 70s same with the old Quarry Green school on Old Rough Lane. All the secondary schools from the 60s were also demolished

Pillars inside are of different shapes on account of the people not being able to agree which one to use.

To my understanding there has always been a church of some sort on the site.
