    I was very skeptical about seeing a Brit talk about this subject, but props to you, Sir, for not being disrespectful and extremely informative 👏 🎉

    There are several reasons why these movies were made.After the riots of the late 1960's,older white people didn't want to go to downtown theaters anymore. simmliar to when whites stopped going to harlem after hours joints after the 1943 riot.At first, Hollywood responded with a plethora of teen beach movies.Thinking teens would still go to movies.but once that well went dry, and the losses mounted,around 67-68.Pornography popped up, and was legalized,to pacify the hippies,and save theatre owners. downtown's became even skechier. Movies that were not blaxploitation of the time were dark,creepy,"and urban"(Exorcist ,Rosemary's Baby, Taxi Driver,Serpico,godfather)On a typical Saturday night, only inner city black folks were on the streets,so after ,Van Peebles suprise hit, Hollywood jumped on the bandwagon. Blaxploitation also was a way to pacify young blacks from militancy. it lasted from 1970-1975. around 75-76, multiplex theaters rose in the suburbs,Rocky,Jaws, and Star Wars brought whites back to the theaters,and blaxploitation was over.

    I really appreciated this as a short and concise history. I think the only major oversight In a short video was the white influence on Blaxploitation, which was part of the issue with it. You had white writers and directors still determining what black actors could be.

      Agreed, a good flim that didn't blow up but did a great critque was Hollywood Shuffle. Black Dynamite/I'm gonna git you sucka did a great job of parody it

      Just some shit you gotta expect in the US. The relationship between blacks and whites is so polarizing, and unified at the same time.

      Just to ask a question. While its problem with the negative influence. Was it also what they expected a hero to be like too?. But i heard of this term when i saw James Bond Live and Let Die movie. The villain is cool though, atleast very interesting

    writing an essay on this era and this was a pretty damn good recap of it, would've been cool if you went over the common roles you'd see the protag doing like gangster boss, or even more often buddy cop with a white cop, and how these roles were divied out and influenced by people and other films

    I love those movies. They are not a reflection of who I am or my ethnicity just as italian-americans are not complaining about mafia movies. You don't hear the Japanese complaining about Yakuza or a samurai and ninja films.

    Luke Cage had a blaxploitation feel to it. I think that show pulled off modern blaxploitation perfectly. We also had a new Shaft movie in 2019. Why didn't you mention that one? That also felt like a modern blaxploitation

      @@filmisjustmovingpictures you need to look at the original Marvel Comics character from 1972, he looks just like Fred Williamson with a little bit of Muhammad Ali. I used to read the comics and then go to a microphone and do the voice that would sound like Fred Williamson with a touch of Muhammad Ali.

      What you think of Blade 1998 movie?. I think that one ruled. Had a Quake (the video game) feel to the ending of that movie which is why i put it high because the ending location of that movie was awesome, not seen Blade 2 and 3 though yet. But i will one day.

    This was really interesting but I really want to learn more about the genre and its impact. I would have to say though that Quentin Tarantino isn't the best example of someone to look up to. I realize that a lot of people really look up to his work but I find that with his films he only challenges convention when it comes to not being politically correct which gets old fast.

    • @canadianamateurfilmdude
      @canadianamateurfilmdude ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tarantino is 1000x better at writing a story than the modern writers who just sacrifice their story for the sake of being politically correct.

      @@canadianamateurfilmdude why?

    • @canadianamateurfilmdude
      @canadianamateurfilmdude ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Alaskan-Armadillo Because he is a master at stealing from older ideas and reinventing them into a story and having that reinvention become iconic. He is introducing younger audiences to the history of cinema and responsible story telling.
      Movies that come out today like Marvel or Disney are absolute trash, and even Blumhouse and others are just trying to appeal to the post modern woke crowd.

      @@canadianamateurfilmdude i dont think being politically correct is the wrong way to, and being offensive doesn’t make a good movie. his films were always off putting to me it seemed very intentionally politically incorrect

    • @canadianamateurfilmdude
      @canadianamateurfilmdude ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kaiyasorbit His films are just disturbingly real. You are only looking surface level (no offence). He isn't good at writing stories because he is just trying to offend people; if you take offence that is your own action. He is good because he can tell such a vivid story without shying away from the darker side of history.

    The artist Freddie Gibbs named himself after the main character in "Black Caesar", and blaxploitation samples are so prevalent throughout hip-hop the genre will never escape relevancy.

We have the insight and alot of times story telling can have more of an impact when a person puts their personal touch on it.
