  • Thank you all for tuning in to Super Mario Diagnostics!
    Today we are going to diagnose a dead misfire on a 2015 jaguar XF 2.0L. We will also be showing how to check crankcase pressure, and how to rule out cylinder wash.
    I hope you all enjoy, like, share, comment and subscribe!

    Back in the day. We use to call it the plastic bag treatment over the dip stick tube. Had blow by in the engine the back would fill up quickly. Wasn't very high text but it worked for blow by on the 392 engine in the school buses. Good work Mario.

      @@carhacks3590 no, instead of using cranking amperage using an amp clamp, i used inverted voltage to do the same thing. It's simply to see how even the compression is across all cylinders by the amount of load the starter places on the battery in order to crank past each cylinder

    If the injector is leaking or has failed, scope the rail pressure signal (ac coupled ) and sync it to a fuelinjector signal (voltage or current). You should be able to see each injector opening on the rail pressure signal, a failed injector would stand out.

    Hey Mario, awesome diagnostic. FYI these Ecoboost 2L engines (2l GTDI) have a fair amount of LSPI related issues. I myself had this problem where my ringlands cracked and lost all compression on #3. It was an easy diagnostic as it was billowing plumes of smoke out of the tailpipe and through the crankcase.

    Hello Mario, nice job as usual. Hope you don't mind a minor comment, the "tail" of the burn line sloping up is not "lean". That is running out of carbon which is a very different thing. While a crude evaluation, the beginning of the burn line is where the mixture determination would be (firing KV aside). A better source of training for ignition would be the late Mac Vandenbrink.
    th-cam.com/video/TgFJVL_WsMA/w-d-xo.html
    Be careful with some of the old training though, since feed-forward fueling throws the proverbial wrench in some of the dynamic testing procedures. If you watch Mac's presentation, it was before feed-forward fueling. (Feed-back and feed-forward fueling are not the same thing). Later he did modify his approach a bit for newer systems such as COP. His passing was a great loss to the industry.
    It is interesting that much of the "new" tools and techniques (primary/secondary ignition) are mostly static and not all that helpful. Much of this is due to the difficult connections with modern systems.

    Would like to see how you would isolate between the crankcase and intake. Would you just do what you did here by disconnecting the PCV and checking? Is there a way to isolate them when doing a pulse sensor test? Still learning and your videos have helped me so much. If anything any videos you could link to help show and understand this better?Thanks

    • @scientist100
      @scientist100 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SuperMarioDiagnostics I would add that there is a possibility of a head gasket transferring over to another cylinder and leaking to the open intake but that would only be a variable if all cylinders are reading low compression which I had a case on a 4 cyl jeep that was used to haul a trailer which is not designed to do. Conclusion for me was all dead cylinders, leaking down the rings as it may have forced the engine during the hauling which caused damage to compression rings. I cranked mine with injectors disabled to allow oil build up to rings to ensure that wasn't a variable in my test. Then the leak down showed rings were bad.

    I don't do this anymore, retired/disabled, had #3 coil 07 Hyundai entourage go bad, moved it, misfire moved, replaced, month later #5 misfire. heres the weird, if I clear the codes, it's fine for a mile or two, and once codes for all cylinders misfire. I had to replace oil control solenoid a few years ago. Evidently previous owner missed quite a few oil changes, under valve cover is sludge city, I change oil every 2k now in hopes to clean, as no one here does the BG oil system clean that I can find. I may remove the oil solenoid to see if clogged again.

    I understand cylinder wash.. but is that the only way cylinder compression can get into the crankcase? I guess a bad head gasket is unlikely as cylinder to oil passages are far apart, but a hole in the head, or broken piston rings etc can also cause this. I'm just wondering if the loss of compression could be the only issue and not a result of something else.
