    About this video...
Purushottampur Thakurani Jatra is a popular religious festival celebrated in the town of Purushottampur, located in the Ganjam district of the Indian state of Odisha. The festival is dedicated to the goddess Thakurani, who is believed to be an incarnation of the goddess Durga.
The Purushottampur Thakurani Jatra is celebrated annually in the month of May or June, during the Hindu month of Chaitra. The festival lasts for a period of ten days, during which a grand procession is taken out in honor of the goddess Thakurani.
The festival begins with the installation of the idol of the goddess Thakurani in a specially constructed temple, called the Thakurani Mandap. The temple is decorated with flowers and lights, and devotees offer prayers and perform rituals in front of the idol.
On the fifth day of the festival, a grand procession is taken out, which is the highlight of the Purushottampur Thakurani Jatra. The procession includes beautifully decorated chariots, which are pulled by devotees through the streets of Purushottampur. The chariots are accompanied by musicians, dancers, and devotees who sing hymns and chant prayers in praise of the goddess Thakurani.
The procession stops at various places in the town, where the goddess Thakurani is worshipped and offerings are made to her. The festival concludes with the immersion of the idol of the goddess Thakurani in a nearby river or pond.
The Purushottampur Thakurani Jatra is a major event in the cultural and religious calendar of the people of Purushottampur and the surrounding areas. It attracts a large number of devotees from all over Odisha, who come to witness the grand procession and offer their prayers to the goddess Thakurani.
