  • I've created this video for the members of the Weavers Circle (our subscriber-only learning space on my website - www.flaxworx.co.nz) but have recently received many questions about this particular dye so decided to upload it here to youtube as well. This dye can be purchased in my online shop as well (New Zealand customers only, sorry!) - flaxworx.co.nz...

    Kia ora, if im making putiputi, should i dye the whenu first or can i dye the whole flower at the end?

    • @Flaxworx

      Kia Ora, that is a personal preference really. I know many people who dye before making the putiputi and equally as many who dye them after. You may want to check out Heather Carrigan from Flax and Fibre and her dedicated flower making and arranging course. I am pretty sure she has a post somewhere how she does it. I personally have done both and it really depends on how much time I have and what look I might want for the putiputi. There is no right or wrong when it comes to that:-)

    hi for how do you leave the flax in the dye? watching this I think I've been leaving them too long, thanks for the video

    • @Flaxworx
      @Flaxworx  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      that depends on a lot of factors but not too long as I rather not overboil them, especially if they have been boiled before

    Hi there, another awesome video. Love your commentaries in your clips. Just a question, how to I uncurl my harakeke when I am ready to use it?

    • @Flaxworx
      @Flaxworx  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kia Ora Bex, that depends on your preparation beforehand. For mine, I just need to quickly put them under the shower and they are good to go, others need to soak theirs or even hapine again, others again, put them out in the morning dew and let them soak it all up. It also depends on the variety of harakeke as well, some have a tendency to curl others not so much (after preparing them). Also boiling helps with the curling, but again, not always

    Would this work with lauhala ? Or pandanus leaves ?

    • @Flaxworx

      The depth of colour might be different, but it will work. I tried with a different brand of dye once and it did take on Pandanus and the process is similar as it is usually in a dried roll as well.
