Im 64 and not too bad but I feel my 64. I bought a 12 foot Perception Outlaw Kayak 8 months ago, its a pretty wide one which i like because its more stable and it was only $960 new at Dicks. It does get you out to where the fish are but I used to own a bass boat and 16 foot jon boat and kayak's dont even come close to them. You are so limited on movement and space to put things and it gets really frustrating. Ive only used mine 4 times because of it. I just haul mine in the back of my ram 1500 truck diagonally with tie downs and its fine. Also, you have to watch big boat waves, I had a huge boat fly by me with a 3 foot wave that flipped me over, lucky I was only in 4 feet of water. I also installed a trolling motor on the front and ran the wires back to the left of the seat where i mounted a speed and forward/reverse control along with a pretty cleaver steering control. It is a total game changer with a kayak, no rowing, just sit there and cruise and also helps you stay in one spot since drifting is pretty bad in kayaks. Ill be selling mine to get a jon boat in the future but its does the trick for now. If you want to, hit me up with a message and ill let ya know how i did the trolling motor, it works amazing. Good luck and be careful.
Delbert, I get the boat option. You can sure cover more water much faster. I have a very short bed on my ranger so it hangs out way too much. I had to have another option. I would get a trailer but I have a camper we take out and the only way to get the camper and kayak on the trip is by using the ladder rack. There is something about laying back and relaxing in the kayak that love to do. Thanks for the comment. Hope yo go get Mobby Dick.
Yeppers, just turned 61 and need to get out on the water. Bank fishing isn't working out always. Kayak or small skiff is definitely what I need. 🎣
I like bank fishing but a kayak give you freedom to easily move with the conditions. But most of all it’s super relaxing.
