Nature Sound Recording made 29.5.2023 Kiipu, Jokioinen, Southern Finland
On the evening in late May I was walking in forest with my dog like I usually do everyday.
On the edge of the Summer there are birds singing around the clock.
This Song Thrush recorded, played the beautiful solo on a top of a Spruce in a small Spruce forest. The age of the trees are approximately 70 years.
When I noticed this particular bird I immediately thought that now I have a chance to make a beautiful recording because the Thrush was singing alone and there wasn't almost any wind at all.
The only thing that could destroy the recording chance was the usual thing that I and my dog would somehow disturb the bird away while sneaking closer to the bird.
I've noticed that it's possible to sneak about 15 - 20 metres close to a singing Song Thrush if there's some good cover and the ground isn't noisy under feet.
Luckily in a Spruce forest there's both benefits for sneaking closer to bird.
I use small digital recorder OM-System LS-P5 that I just leave on forest and point to the direction of sound.
On this time when I was about 20 metres from the Song Thrush there was a rock about the size of 1*1,5 metres and I decided to leave my recorder there on the top of the rock because I noticed that it wasn't possible to get any closer to the bird without disturbing it - there wouldn't be any (eye) cover if I and my dog went closer.
So I just turned the recorder on and pointed the microphones towards the Song Trush that still was singing beautifully in a late evening forest and leaved the recorder on on the top of the rock and sneaked away with my dog the same path backwards.
Then we just listened how long the bird would sing to the recording. And It sang about 30 minutes, but and then I returned to the rock and switched off the recording process.
The result of the recording was thank god okay. Of course the recorder could have been much closer to the bird so I could have avoided the noise on the recording but it came out as it was.
It's okay recording, but on the end of the recording the Thrush moved few meters and the microphones didn't catch the sound anymore as well as earlier.
