Imagine you're the IT manager of a branch under a multi billion dollar company, y'all make backups regularly but one of your employees accidentally gets baited into downloading something through their work email. If privileges aren't setup correctly, your whole network is gone, and yes this is DEFINITELY combated by frequent backups, but what happens if the only backup you have is from a week and a half ago? You have legitimately millions of dollars up in the air.. Granted, this is not the norm (anymore) but we are still seeing big issues with large corporations that don't see cybersecurity as the investment they should, and what I just portrayed to you is pretty much exactly why you see companies actually paying the ransoms.

This is probably what every grandparents computer will look like when they accidentally download a virus thinking it's something that will fix there pc if something is wrong with it
I love these types of "malware." People are coming up with creative visual spectacles and ridiculous ransoms (such as playing Desert Bus be allowed to get your files back).

This was the first ever malware I've tested in a mobile VM. And despite my requirements it doesnt seem to run any faster on performances, including Monoxide creating ancillary distortions which casually breaks the emulation at the same time
Fun fact: After the MBR overwrite of this virus, all the partitions in the disk become unallocated, like if the disk was brand new. You can see this using a Windows PE CD/Pendrive/ISO file (Sergei Strelec, Gandalf). This means the only thing that you are able to do is reinstall Windows, or any other OS.
This also happens with Holzer, another virus.

if you have a bootable USB you can enter recovery mode and repair the MBR and the boot BCD. The virus only changes the MBR
It does not works, monoxide is not ssme like memz
It deletes system files so i don't think it's possible.

I think its because the custom mbr is not a part of Win11.
we don't know for sure that 11 is going to be gpt only
the leaked build isn't gpt only either btw, the only reason the installer requires UEFI is its set to require a TPM 2.0 module, which has already been said to not be the case for the normal build
