    His postmodern, narrative approach is powerful, if yet without accurate consideration of differential diagnosis. Still a helpful postulation of etiology of shame. Not one size fits all though.

    People can experience shame by themselves. People with Psychotic disorders hear voices that shame them. They are alone when they experience the shame brought on by auditory hallucinations. People with thought disorders feel what they feel in incomprehensible hyper abstraction.

      I imagine those forms of shame are still related to either a past experience of shame with actual others or to the idea of being condemned by actual others.
