I dont know how i found your channel 2 nights ago but I'm glad i did. My wife and i spend most of our days in high stress fast paced city living. watching your videos are like relaxation therapy for us. You are a blessed family and we hope to have a fraction of this lifestyle someday.
The worst part about this kind of injury, even as sore as you are the day it happens, is *knowing* how sore you're going to be the next morning... How you feel better soon!!
Hi Neil. Glad you weren't hurt worse. As we get older, our balance isn't as good and even our judgement of distance is affected by age. It sucks to fall. It is one of my biggest fears. I think it's OK to slow down as much as is necessary. Hope you mend soon and aren't in too much pain.
Late to the party for this video because we are road tripping the UP but I think my favorite thing about your videos is how you include your wife and girls. That flashback to the motorhome purchase just proves that these videos will not only be entertaining for us but meaningful for your family for years to come. Thanks for bringing us along!
I work in the utility industry, where safety is the prime objective. We’ve covered the SafeStart series which identifies four key areas that lead to accidents; rushing, frustration, fatigue, and complacency. I’ve learned to remember these, identifying and trigger myself whenever I’m in these situations.
I really look forward to your videos Neil love your presenting style and you are a really decent guy always willing to help your neighbours and friends and your family is amazing the world is a better place for having people like you and your family in it
Suggestion- Put a heating pad on the bruise for about 20 minutes. Then when you take it off the blood will come in to cool you leg and that will cause the blood that is pooled in the bruise will be cleaned out because of the new blood comes in to cool the area. It will help cut down the time for the bruise to clear up. Keep doing this spaced out throughout the day until it clears up.
2015 hit me like a mack truck. I was going hard all the time. 60 hours work, 4 hours sleep. Remodeling house, fixing stuff....then I'm in the hospital from a spinal cord injury caused by massive herniation. Paralyzed and years of therapy, lost my job, totally changed by families life. Permanently disabled unable to work, but I can walk with a cane and NOW move slowly. I tell everyone take care of your back. Ergonomics. Don't lift too much. Be careful. From Superman in my 20s to disabled in mid 40s. Forced retirement in 2019. Take care so I can live vicariously through your videos. :)
That definitely looks like it hurt. I've had similar happen and know it does. Thankfully it's not worse. Hope you are back to 100% soon. You talking about the sayings reminds me of when I was younger and would hear them too. Mostly kind of ignored them, you know young and bullet proof. Now that I'm 47 and dealing with the aftermath of some injuries wishing in would have listened. However I still find myself doing those "dumb" things every once in awhile. Other times I'm finding my self being "The Old Guy" and trying to pass on the advice and sayings to the younger people now.
I have the same thing happen to me a lot with the passing out thing. It’s almost like a “shock” that I go through. I used to think it was hypoglycemia, but anymore I’m not so sure. It’s not been really anything to worry about so far in my life, it’s just annoying is all. 😂 I get the sweats and everything just like you did. Pass out, whole 9 yards. Lay down, take a break for 15 minutes, then it won’t happen again for a year or two. It hasn’t gotten any more frequent, and is always the same results. A glass of orange juice actually is one of the main things I’ve found that really helps during the episode while you’re dizzy and hot. I don’t know if you remember or not, but I said something about coming down to Harlan days to do the dirt drags….. We had the dirt drags at our little Saline fair here in Michigan Thursday night, I ended up winning the 2wd v8 class with my ford truck I’ve been working on all summer! Now for me slowing down too… 😮💨 you should see the mistake I just made. We just bought an arctic fox truck camper. What a behemoth. 🤦♂️ it’s huge (3650 dry) and I’m really regretting it. Not real sure why I gave the money up for it. 🤦♂️ I’ll see ya next week man. (On TH-cam of course) 💪
Neil, first and foremost thank God you did not get a more serious injury and secondly you’re brave and confident enough to put yourself out there to warn others about the dangers. Unfortunately there are other having split second accidents, another channel just recently reported on a cutting wheel accident, fortunately it was not as serious as it could have been. We all value you Neil, Live Long and Prosper. 😔🖖🖖🖖
The mash-up with Peter G. at the end was hilarious! Really glad it wasn't worse... you could have done any number of things to yourself. Slowing down and being careful is something we should all consider (and do!). It's not the slow-er-rer that we go, it's the not-starting. And when we hurry, we get drawn into the future -- and the only place work gets done, or things get enjoyed, is Now. Hope you heal up quick! Thanks for all you do and share, your die-hards really appreciate the slice-of-Indiana-life you share with us.
Glad to see you are okay. Love your videos and content. Been watching your weekly videos the past few years. My Sunday’s are synonymous with a cup on coffee anticipating the 7:00 AM release. Keep up the good work!!!!
I did something very similar when moving my kid to college. Came back from vacation and was trying to get caught up on things and my mind wasn’t where it should’ve been. Feel off a rail car and bruised the heck out of my stomach
Don't take any grief for tucking your t shirts into your shorts Neil!!!! I am with you! Unfortunately i have been with you on slipping and railing the side of my leg as well! Really love the videos and look forward to watching each Sunday morning! Keep it up!
dude! you’re literally my idol. you’re extremely resourceful and competent with just so much stuff. tool heaven and toys. your videos are top job. you, mkbhd, jerryrigeverything are my favs.
Glad it wasn’t worse Neil! I took your message and your old boss’ phrase to heart today and have slowed down and planned to slow down in future plans and projects.
Possibly rent a jackhammer attachment for the Skid Steer or Backhoe to see if you can break it up into smaller more manageable pieces? I know they make them for Skid Steers and Mini Excavators, but not so sure about Backhoes. That would be your easiest best bet. Doubt you want to wreck a hand pavement saw and several multiple blades. Same goes for a concrete drill and 50+ holes drilled then try so smack it to break it up. Those are my ideas on it, hope it helps.
Sorry about your fall. I understand the shock of it all. I fell from top to bottom of stairs in early July. It messes with your plans for sure! Take it easy!
Thanks so much for the reminder to slow down!! A true lesson in life and appreciate the time that you took to describe the incident. I’m thankful that you did not hurt yourself in a worse manner. Incredible how fragile things really are. Important show !! Thanks again
Your old boss's saying, is something my grandmother used to say to us when my siblings and I were kids. She was one to never rush to get something done. Hadn't thought about that , since her passing 43yrs ago. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I enjoy your channel. The time you take to explain what you are doing , is good.
My dad had the same saying… at the time I thought it was dumb. But, there have been a few incidents over the past fifty years, since I reached adulthood, when it came to mind and made perfect sense!
Just re watched American ganster…and a line(of many) that really stood out was Denzel saying his mentor taught him how to take his time. A lesson I continually have to be reminded of. Always being in a rush is extremely stressful and alot of pressure. The inevitable accidents That dew would have got me as well. Happy your all-right Neil!!!
Since I retired, I were shorts from the first day of spring through Thanksgiving. After 40 years in heavy double front rigging pants in. the construction industry, ir feels much more comfortable to me now. I have the coveralls for when I need the coverage while welding or weed eating, and I will put the rigging pants back on in the winter or when out in then woods. Concerning your tumble, I know how quick things can happen. I stubbed my toe a while back while repositioning a ladder in rock retained planter space. Down I went onto the carport slab. Fortunately the ladder did not fall, but I did, and I hit pretty hard. No injury, but it really opens your eyes Thanks for another good video.
Glad you didn't have anything more serious happen Neil! Been there and done that several times. Loved the video. Your drone shots were impressive. Love the channel, and I hope you heal quickly and as painlessly as possible!
Thats what they make you memorize when you are going to be a heavy equipment operator , once you learn that everything starts to click and there isn't a machine yet that I can't figure out and make productive even if I've never seen one before
I'm glad it wasn't a serious injury from your fall. Great advice on being thankful and slowing down a bit. God bless you for sharing your experiences. Thank you.
Slow is smooth and smooth is fast is something i heard when i was about 14yrs old and it has stuck with me for over 20years and it's a thing I tell my kids at least twice a week. Heal up well brotha🤙🏾
I'm a novice at wood working. A couple years ago I almost last my manhood when a piece of wood kicked back on the table saw. Left me with a deep bruise about the size of a softball. But definitely taught me a lesson about respecting power tools. Glad you're okay. Hopefully the next day wasn't too bad.
For the concrete, rent a saw and cut it up. With large pieces you can drill a couple holes for anchors to haul around for parking blocks, smaller pieces use to hold things down. There is many uses for old concrete.
Really sorry about the slip and injury Neil. At our age, we feel it for far too long. I am glad it was not worse. It only takes a moment for things to go really bad. Putting the step and the grab handle on the dump truck looks like a great idea and hopefully will make crawling up there safer as well. I can’t believe you still have the tag on that Milwaukee 1” impact. Mini Pearl! lol. 😂
I'm a CDL instructor and three points of contact is something I drill into my students constantly. If they don't follow it, I make them fill out accident reports naming injuries I've seen or had happen to myself when I had lapses. Hopefully it works. By the way, you have some strings hanging off the bottom of those shorts...oh wait, those are your legs...
Hello Neil, luckily nothing worse happened with your leg, get well soon. It's a shame that the camper was sold, I'm a passionate camper myself but if its not getting used than it has to go.. cant wait to see the f750 when its done. greetings from germany
If you can’t reuse it, rent a breaker attachment for your tracked skid steer. Be don’t in no time. Nasty looking bruise for sure. Glad you didn’t get hurt worse, which in looking at how and where you fell….very lucky. Heal up and already looking forward to the next one.
As I get older, I got to be more dependable on two new friends...Ibuprofen and heating pads. I used to jump off ladders, scaffolding, tailgates, and such....nope not anymore. Now its sit down and slide off. I have to wear colored socks so I can see wear my legs are.
I've heard that 'the hurrieder I go...' saying in the past. I'm sure the pain was the worst the morning after. Here's hoping it heals up quickly and be careful out there! :)
I was told as a much younger man that “if you want to make time, take your time”, wasn’t until I aged some that I began to see the wisdom of the saying. Glad it’s just bruised and nothing broke, plan the plan, don’t plan the results young man. Thanks for the update, enjoyed watching, everything but the express ride to the ground, be safe.
Flip the concrete slab over and use as a pressure washing pit. Push the steps closer to the house in case anyone mistakenly goes out that door and doesn’t do a face-plant.
Neil - we are the exact same age and the older we get, the farther away the ground gets and the harder it gets. Be careful! If you fall and die I won't have anything to watch at work on Mondays.
I've heard that saying many times. I started saying it just as you did, because I thought that was what was coming. 😊 I imagine your symptoms were from an adrenaline rush from the fall and thinking about what could have happened. Still, it's good to get checked out to be safe. Glad you're ok except for the soreness. Keep moving, even if you don't feel like it, to keep from getting stiff. Hope it's all healed soon and you feel better! Oh, my dad has those same legs! 😉
Lots of variety this week, Neil! I am glad your leg was okay and you are only really bruised and nothing worse! I thought your drone content this week was really very fine indeed, especially the follow on shots taking the F750 to the shop! Go well and catch you next week. Rich 👋👋
Hope you feel better soon, but I did have a good laugh with this video. The Peter Griffin clip was spot on. And the only thing that would have made those leg shots even better would have been a good pair of dad jean shorts... circa 1985.
Hi Neil. I started watching your channel a couple of months ago. I enjoy your content very much. Problem is......everywhere I go all I see is triple axle dump trucks. They're everywhere!
Favorite time of the week is your weekly upload! The wife’s family are cattle and crop farmers in central Ohio and your videos are a small reminder of the family I only get to see at holiday time. Stay safe and if I’m lucky I’ll see you in the next one 😎.
Yes I agree....I'm 62 now. When we're going to work on a project, I tell my son and grandson. " The theme of the day isss. It's not a race,it's marathon. Slow but steady. "
We often say “Slow down to go fast”. It came from my competative shooting, but often find myself saying it to ppl in a rush, or after I’ve had an incident like you where I was rushing or too tired to be keep going and should have stopped.
Neil, take if from this guy - it only gets worse the older you get. I was pretty resilient until I hit my 50’s that’s when little things started hurting worse. Now that I’m in my 60’s I finally started to slow down and pay closer attention to my own personal safety. It’s not that I wasn’t safety conscious before but that it was forefront in my mind. Stay safe.
Neil, I know it is after the fact, but get some two inch wide grip tape and cover the areas on your trailer tongue that you frequently walk across. I often step down from my truck to my trailer the same way and the grip tape makes a difference. Be safe, and thank you for making weekly content.
Neil, thats signs of stress.. i know how hard it is to acknowledge that we cant be everywhere doing everything. My wife keeps telling me, and it havent really sunk in. If we all reminds eachother, maybe one day itl do it. Ive seen stress, its not fun! Keep safe, your videos are the ones i look forward to the most! Greetings from Denmark 😊 -Peter
About 6-7 yrs before I retired, my wife bought me a small pocket notebook. I always wrote my list' s and carried it in my work vest whenever I was working on the road or related projects. I have graduated into making list for any multi task project! Then, when I get to the lumber yard or on the project site....I' m like...damn...where's my list??? Busy dudes need list' s!
Couldn't help myself after seeing your bruise.....Was finishing up the last fixture install on my under house lighting ( read...11' to bottom of 1st deck) using an 8' step ladder. So happy was I to be rushing to the panel to turn on the breaker....I just released my hold and stepped backward from the 4 th step!! No contact with anything...just said until the back of my thigh and butt splatted on the concrete!! Took a sec to assess the situation, went up 2 floors to the phone and called in to my doc' s office. Had my private nurse ( wife) take a look and went back to test my new lighting. It looked horrid the next day and took over a month to go away!! Boy did I feel stupid! Always good to step back, analyze the cause and figure out some way to prevent a reoccurance!! Btw..been on blood thinners 4 20 yrs...worked my last 17 yrs as perm disabled... NEVER QUIT!
Hi Neil, first-time commentor here. Love your channel, watching all your heavy equipment cleanup and painting inspires me to do more (I am in-between you and your dads age) I have been to Harlan a hundred times over the last 10 years. I was a second career Pastor in St. Joe for several years and know the area fairly well. About this video: I could really feel your pain on that fall, ouch!! As an old construction guy, I wont make any comments about your lilly white legs or "were you riding a chicken?" I am curious about one thing though....isn't it a little warm outside to be wearing long-john bottoms under your shorts?? 😂 lol. Keep up the great content!!
Dang a few other guys I follow on TH-cam had accidents this week, one snapped his forearm. There is always a split second during those moments when you're going down, that you actually rethink your mistake. lol I saw a bunch of white paint samples in your hand. If it's white, choose Oxford White. That is a Ford color. Then put your emblem on the door and save the stripe for the old Bronco. You can add them to the dump truck any time in the future if you "have" to have them.
Glad you are OK, never fun to fall or injury yourself. And brave to share to the world, hopefully this helps someone else to remember to take the extra second to work carefully.
Glad you're okay Neil. I worry about that kind of stuff all the time and I've had it happen and had some near misses. They say you can never be too careful but no matter how careful we try to be sometimes you still get bit. Dave
Ouch, that looks sore! I wonder if you could have just removed the concrete steps and built the deck/wooden porch over the top of the concrete slab? Anyway good luck with the injury and love watching your content.
Flip it and it will most likely break. That's how I tackle unwanted concrete. Use the weight of itself to destroy itself. Also, a nice addition to the little dump is an air gate release. Fairly inexpensive cylinder and valve and a real timesaver! Take care Neil!
Neil, m glad your injury is not so bad. Need for you to be safe.. I like the journey of the truck getting repaired.... I am so impressed with how much equipment you have! You don't have to go to the store for equipment.thanjs for sharing and you are the best!
Rub some dirt on it kid! I did something similar in a muddy skid steer bucket dismounting. ‘Stuck the landing’. My kids yelled at me - you can’t do that stuff by yourself anymore! Uh, yeah I can. I just take my time and repeat myself I’m not 22 anymore… because I forget. Oh, and I wear shin guards lol. Keep it moving, blood flow is the main healer believe it or not. Good luck!
I’m sure you’re a lot like me. I usually get very angry at myself when I hurt myself like that. Especially when it’s my hands. Injury means you have to stop and stopping halts progress and it just snowballs. Glad your mishap wasn’t worse. 🙏🏻
I feel your pain Neil I cannot do any project without some type of mishap. Fortunately they have all been really minor. It has become a running joke with my wife and kids. Just rest heal and move on to the next one.
Geez Neil showing some leg trying to get ratings, this is a family channel! Glad to hear you're okay! It was interesting to hear you mention three points of contact that's very big at my job and becoming complacent!
Absolutly, Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Hope you feel better, I need to remember I am not 20 anymore lol My brain says I am and my body says otherwise.
Had something similar happen to me years ago. I was climbing out of the bed of the truck and slipped and landed on the trailer jack. Couldn't walk right for weeks
I hope you put some ice on that bruise to slow the bleeding/bruising down. 15 min with ice, 15 min without ice. Once the bruise has finished "blooming", as my mom would say, it's time for warm compresses to help the bruise fade. The warm compresses also helps lessen the chance of large blood clots from breaking free and creating more problems. I really hope you are feeling better, Neil.
Talking of hurting your self at work, I for 30 years worked in construction and I would scrape or cut myself everyday. I used to tell my crew “I better walk the straight and narrow and not get into trouble because if someone ever gets hurt or murdered in one the houses I’ve worked on I’ll be their (the police) prime suspect”!
I really envy and am jealous of the sense of community and pride you all have in your neck of the woods.
I dont know how i found your channel 2 nights ago but I'm glad i did. My wife and i spend most of our days in high stress fast paced city living. watching your videos are like relaxation therapy for us. You are a blessed family and we hope to have a fraction of this lifestyle someday.
You are 100% right to slow down just today i was getting out my truck just stepped down wrong and pinched my back and im 31 in a week.
Hopefully you feel better soon. Be careful, got months of feeding the beast this winter in the near future
The worst part about this kind of injury, even as sore as you are the day it happens, is *knowing* how sore you're going to be the next morning...

"That was dumb".... we've all been there before, some of us numerous times!!
Me: This might be dumb...
Me 2 seconds later: Yep, that was very dumb!
🤣
I’m there at least once a week, on a good week.
I work in the utility industry, where safety is the prime objective. Another phrase which is similar I always heard and used, “Haste makes Waste”
I’m so glad you’re okay. That fall could had been bad of course you already know. Like to add your drone shots are top notch.

I like this. I don't think I've heard it before.
Want to go fast, move slow….. they told me
@@ryanburelison3123 Same with CQB in the military.
We been saying slow down to go faster.
Be alert and pay attention.

😂😂
Hello Neil, luckily nothing worse happened with your leg, get well soon. It's a shame that the camper was sold, I'm a passionate camper myself but if its not getting used than it has to go.. cant wait to see the f750 when its done. greetings from germany
Woah, that's one heck of a bruise. You're going to get the rainbow of colors for a few weeks. Hope you're feeling better soon!
Glad the fall wasn’t worse. Great reminder that slowing down often allows us to go faster.
When I saw that I kind of got that weak knee feeling behind the back of my legs. Hope it heals and settles soon. Take care fellow.
I remember an ol operator told me years ago. “Slow is smooth, smooth is fast”.
Neil - we are the exact same age and the older we get, the farther away the ground gets and the harder it gets. Be careful! If you fall and die I won't have anything to watch at work on Mondays.
Been there, done that. Thanks for the reminder, sir. I've had my share of senseless close calls!!!!
And the only thing that would have made those leg shots even better would have been a good pair of dad jean shorts... circa 1985.
You've just reminded me I need to get milk, thanks Neil.
Neil, this was wonderfully shot, the transitions and drone footage is fantastic ! Thank you
We often say “Slow down to go fast”.
Stay safe.
Neil,
I know it is after the fact, but get some two inch wide grip tape and cover the areas on your trailer tongue that you frequently walk across.
Greetings from Denmark 😊
-Peter
Neil, always love listening to you... practical wisdom and entertainment....😃
Thanks for listening!
Zack from millennial farmer took a similar fall walking across the top of a cultivator... i now think twice about smooth painted surfaces!
Good Morning Sir, slow win the race and as we get older it is a Vital Factor in order to stay a live 🙏😇👍 Cheers 🚧🚧
I lost it at the old family guy clip. 😂 especially when you continued the audio of you doubled over beside the trailer.
NEVER QUIT!
Perfect visual of the size difference of the two trucks. One pulling the other.
There is always a split second during those moments when you're going down, that you actually rethink your mistake. lol
I saw a bunch of white paint samples in your hand. If it's white, choose Oxford White. That is a Ford color. Then put your emblem on the door and save the stripe for the old Bronco. You can add them to the dump truck any time in the future if you "have" to have them.
Ouch! That's gotta smart. I feel bad that it happened, but that clip of Peter Griffin at the end made me laugh and laugh. Ha! 19:31
Speedy recovery.
For the step, if you flip it upside down it would make for a decent storage bunk for small amounts sand or gravel.
Dave
Whoever does your video editing does a great job. That and your camera man. Fantastic work as always.
Ouch, that looks sore! I wonder if you could have just removed the concrete steps and built the deck/wooden porch over the top of the concrete slab?
Anyway good luck with the injury and love watching your content.
In NASCAR, they often say, "Sometimes you gotta slow down to go faster."
Flip it and it will most likely break. That's how I tackle unwanted concrete. Use the weight of itself to destroy itself.
Also, a nice addition to the little dump is an air gate release. Fairly inexpensive cylinder and valve and a real timesaver!
Take care Neil!
Gla you’re ok! I got to remember “the harrier you go the behinder you go”
Neil, m glad your injury is not so bad. Need for you to be safe.. I like the journey of the truck getting repaired.... I am so impressed with how much equipment you have! You don't have to go to the store for equipment.thanjs for sharing and you are the best!
Thanks Aaron!
@@digdrivediy yes indeed! Can't wait to your content drops every Sunday at 7 am est!
Looks like adding self adhering friction paper to slippery surfaces should be on your list of Things To Do now. Thank the Lord we still have ya buddy!
I feel your pain Neil I cannot do any project without some type of mishap. Fortunately they have all been really minor. It has become a running joke with my wife and kids. Just rest heal and move on to the next one.
Hehehe you don’t have a jackhammer, you have everything.
Geez Neil showing some leg trying to get ratings, this is a family channel! Glad to hear you're okay! It was interesting to hear you mention three points of contact that's very big at my job and becoming complacent!
Hello from the Netherlands Koch Family .
thanks for the video Neil.
Kind regards, Hollandduck
Wet painted steel is so slick..the only other thing that's more slippery is a diamond plate wet deck.
My grandfather always said, "hurry up and take your time." Never really got that one. I like "slow is smooth and smooth is fast."
Great job hope you get better soon love your videos thank you
Absolutly, Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Hope you feel better, I need to remember I am not 20 anymore lol My brain says I am and my body says otherwise.
John at custom trucks did my trailer a couple years ago. They did an awesome job and were very responsible ! Keep up with the great videos!
Had something similar happen to me years ago. I was climbing out of the bed of the truck and slipped and landed on the trailer jack. Couldn't walk right for weeks
Your brother's driveway needs some love too.
I’ve been told to hurry up and slow down, many injuries as a young man. Glad you’re ok thanks for a great video!
