I just found your channel. The work you have done here is simply amazing. Charlie Palmieri is one of the greatest Piano players in Latin music and his style is very complex and difficult to decipher. Congratulations

I've transcribed and performed Red Garland's version of "Billy Boy," Bill Evans' "Sugar Plum," and even boogie woogie by Mary Lou Williams. This Charlie Palmieri transcription is by far the most difficult thing, I've ever played! Thank you for providing us with this transcription of Charlie Palmieri.

Thank you - I'm humbled to know you're working on it. I remember doing parts of Red's "Billy Boy" off the Miles album a million years ago. What a great tune.

I am trying to learn this piece but I can’t find out how to move my fingers fast enough to get his signature sound, any tips?

I have a background in classical music, so many years of scales, arpeggios, and fast passages in pieces. Practicing technically challenging written music and scales, using a metronome for accuracy and control, and making sure things are even. I wish I had a magic pill - good luck in your journey!

I don’t know why this kind of pieces are so hard to play for a classical pianist as me Xd

Cesar, since I studied and went to school for classical piano I know what you mean. There is a different rhythmic approach when you play as a "rhythm section" player in a group, e.g. jazz, Afro-Cuban, pop etc. It's very different from how you structure phrases and use rubato in classical music. It requires a lot of study, listening, imitation, and, if possible, performing with other musicians in the style.

I hear what you're saying in regards to the transition from classical music to Latin jazz! Conversely, I come from a straight-ahead jazz piano background and find Charlie Palmieri's music (and Afro-Cuban music in general) to be much more difficult to perform. The combination of technique and syncopation in Charlie Palmieri's music is highly challenging for me despite my fluency in bebop piano.

Makes it look like child's play. But for some reason this sounded way too much Like Charlie original recording. In fact, watching the video close, sometimes his fingers were either before or after the notes or chords. Great illustration nonetheless... Just my 2

@@andrewgoodloe4655 My Bad Andrew. I figured something was up with this clip. You really did a great job though.
I have this album since it first came out and listen to it a lot. Charlie is one of my favorites, love all his work. He recorded this album not long after suffering a heart attack. IMO, It's one of his greatest albums. Thanks for posting...

No problem! You're right about the fingers out of sync, btw. I recorded the video and audio in one take, but I also recorded the audio into a sequencer (Logic) to get better audio quality. On this video I had some sync issues getting video and audio to exactly line up... I appreciate the kind words and I've got some more in the works.

Thanks for checking out the track! I'm a fan of Charlie's playing, particularly his work on piano. Have you listened to Eddie's work with La Perfecta? It's a different side of his playing!
