Not lost or abandoned really. This is the Hollow Disaster that consumed the old city. The one we see in Miyabi's story as well. The one that Belle's and Wise's teacher was blamed for causing. Astra was one of many people trapped when the world around them suddenly turned into hell on earth.
This isn't Hollow Zero. This is a normal, random Hollow disaster taking place at the border between Janus and Vulcan Quarters. Hollow Zero isn't sitting in the middle of New Eridu, and the Janus Quarter that the Proxy siblings live in doesn't look like a remnant of Eridu on the edge of the Chasm.
@@corver19 As far as we know, the "Hollow Disaster" was the disaster that destroyed Old Eridu but not only that, other Hollows were created during that disaster and took a lot of cities by surprise, lots of people died and cities were lost, Eridu being the biggest city that was lost during the disaster.
Hollow Zero is the biggest Hollow in the world at this momment in the ZZZ world, but wasn't the only one that was "born" during the disaster that destroyed Eridu
@@snakefh I think you may have confused the initial appearance of Hollows from at least several decades ago with the fall of Eridu, which happened recently. Eridu was a surviving city after the Hollows destroyed the "old civilization". Hollow Zero already existed in Eridu's time prior to its expansion during the fall of old Eridu. The Fall of the Old Capital is the uncontrolled expansion of Hollow Zero around 11 years before the current events of the game, that was stopped by detonating a chain of Shiyu pillars, forming the Chasm. New Eridu was built/consolidated after the fall of Eridu on the other side of the Chasm.
Miyabi's mother died during Hollow Zero's expansion, the event that Carole Arna is blamed for. Astra's rescue should not be from the same event. The chaos after Eridu was at least blown in half with nearly the entire Defense Force being wiped out by Hollow Zero shouldn't be resulting in organized rescues after just 24 hours. The charity event/memorial for the Fall of the Old Capital also should not be anything as small as what's shown here.
This is just one of numerous ordinary Hollow disasters that the people in this world experience on a regular basis over the years, when the Great Hollows spawn companion hollows in unexpected places.
This is Hollow Zero since Astra is still so young and it expanded suddenly 11 years before the Story started.
New Eridu is massive which even the Devs affirmed in that JP interview so we cant say for sure how big each part of the City is (like the Janus Quarter) and we also know that there are still old Subway tunnels that connected New Eridu with the old Capital.. so even with lots of manpower that the Army, HIA and other Organisations lost, the City that is now New Eridu already existed so i doubt they had Problems to mobilise people from there..
Astra seemed to be stuck in a Subway tunnel which they mentioned was between the Janus Quarter and Vulcan Quarter and in the new Quest she mentioned something about taking Shelter somewhere when the Disaster happend, not knowing if her Parents just abandonded her or already turned into Monster.
@@Sheppart92 We've already seen at least three Hollows appearing in the middle of New Eridu in the weeks that have passed in-game between versions 1.0 and 1.4: the one from the very start of the game, the one that trapped Belle, as well as Melinoe, and there should be more that haven't been mentioned. People get trapped in these and lose their lives all the time.
I haven't played the new story yet, so anything said by Astra about Hollow Zero or living in old Eridu might contradict me, but it still seems much more likely that this memorial represents a different Hollow of much smaller scale. Hollow Zero represents the deaths of tens of thousands of people if not orders of magnitude more. This one appears to involve several dozens and seems to be notable because it's a disaster where the usual response efforts were unable to save so many people, leaving Astra trapped inside for 24 hours.

I honestly forget that the lore for each character or story is can be dark and sometimes even disturbing because of the fact the base game is so different in the atmosphere it presents, often light hearted in a sense. I literally had to take a sec to register what happened in this video because it was beyond what I was expecting.
We can't have a character teaser that doesn't break our hearts can't we 😭
