Hello Maci! It is so cool to see what a day as a music label intern looks like. I love that you give many pieces of advice on landing a role in the industry. It is also really interesting that you used to run a 5SOS twitter update account in the past. I truly believe passion projects as such really help you stand out when it comes to applyigng. As a former fangirl myself, it's refreshing to see girls like me already in the position I wish to be in. I wanted to ask as to who do you send your applications to? And did they require you to be studying music for the internship?
I have a marketing degree, and I kick ass at admin/PA work. I am looking to work at a record label for the experience to learn more about the industry and I figured working as the company PA would be the best route. Did they have a PA @ the Warner office you worked at?

Are there like specific skills relating to music that i would need to apply as an intern for a record label? I know that having a passion for music is important, but I'm kind of unfamiliar with what an intern would do, like do i need to show that i know how to produce music or something?

I'm glad you found this helpful! I suggest choosing a major that really interests you.
It really depends on what particular department in the industry you're interested in (i.e. accounting, artist and repertoire (A&R), marketing, sync, etc). There are some unis that offer a music industry major, but for most of the interns/co-workers I worked with, their majors ranged from marketing, communications, business, etc.
I personally chose Cinema and Television Arts with emphasis on Entertainment Media Management bc I wanted to work in the business side of entertainment, and just added a Digital Marketing minor.

That's awesome! It depends on what you're interested in at a music label (i.e. marketing, A&R, project management, etc) but I'm assuming you may be interested in digital marketing since you run an update account. It definitely helps considering how Why Don't We is signed to Atlantic (which is why I'm assuming you want to intern there). I personally majored in Entertainment Media Management and some of the people I worked/interned with had majors related to Business, Marketing, Communications, etc. If anything, your major helps but what's more important is your internship/work experience during college.

I want to be a music manager and or a tour manager and I’m planning to go into marketing is that a good start ?
Definitely! I'm not a marketing major but I did have Digital Marketing as a minor and participated in a marketing club and learned that my knowledge in marketing really helped with managing multiple projects and how to interact and network with other people. I feel with that position, you can major in anything related to business or entertainment as long as you work on your own personal projects related to that role.
