My parents took me with them once just over 50 years ago. We stayed at the Aladdin, and went to many hotels on the strip. It was simply amazing. Men in suits a ties and women in beautiful dresses just to go to the casino floor. Everyone dressed to the nines…There was an air of sophistication that is sadly lost.

Today's visitors to Las Vegas don't know what they missed. Being casual and comfortable is one thing, but dressing up and going out for the evening is so special. It was such a thrill to mingle with people dressed to the hilt, going to a show or to the casino, or to a fabulous dinner. It felt good, and I miss it.

*The Beatles never appeared at what was then the new 'Convention Center...they appeared at the lounge showroom at the 'Sahara Hotel & Casino' for 2-nights only and never came back to Las Vegas after that one-time only in '64*
( *They left Las Vegas for the 2nd. 'Ed Sullivan Show' flying-on to Miami to appear at the 'Deauville Hotel'
there... my sister and I never saw the 'Sahara' show and didn't even know they were in town!* )
*Fifty-years later I was looking at 'Beatle' photos in a 'Life' special issue and one pic jumped-out at me of the 'Fabs' at the Sahara's swimming-pool complex and I realized I WAS THERE that day w/my 13yr. old sister and my 10yr. old self swimming and I suddenly remembered four young guys wearing swim-trunks and white 'Gilligan' hats that were popular that year and all wearing 'Ray-Bans' sitting around and 'getting some rays' and I was only a few feet away the whole time, maybe an hour or so*
*No photographers, no crowd, no girls...no nothing because no one knew it was 'those boys from Sullivan''...maybe 'Ringo' took the pics because he loved taking pictures of everything for himself and his 'Mum'*

Wow ! thats a great story . Thanks for sharing Gerry . And thanks for the trivia , i did not know that about the Beatles . Have an awesome day .

@@percusmn99 *Not much of a 'story' really...more like 'I Was There' and didn't even know it*
*I would never have even remembered any of it if not for those pics where they were wearing those stupid hats that were really popular that year*
( *Hid their hair pretty good, though* )

Finally…a picture of Caesars famous people mover walkway, at 2:54…..the one that only went into the casino! Rode it myself in 2000 on my first trip to Vegas…and have often since thought “Did that thing really exist?” Apparently so!
Great vid…with a very sweet rendition of Birdland, by the way…one of my fave tunes! Thanks!♥️

Those were the days! My first trip was in 1980, last trip was in 2001. in the 80's, all 5 of the Howard Hughes hotel properties were still operating. There was still something mystic and a certain decorum about Las Vegas. The casinos made their money mostly on gambling. I never felt ripped off as for entertainment, food or transportation. I remember many times going to an early show, then hopping a cab to another hotel and getting in line for the late show. I saw more big name entertainers than I can remember. Even the biggest names weren't out of anyone's price range.

At 2:54…that long thing stretching from the street to the Caesars dome was an enclosed moving walkway…cuz at the time it was really a loooong walk from LVB into the property. I’ve never seen a picture of it anywhere…but rode on it once before it was dismantled in the early 2000’s.

First time visited with my mom in 1974. We never daw slot machines. Walking on the strip with all those neon signs was a sight to see. Loved the "old vegas". Been back a few times and all the casinos look the same. No interest in any future visits
