3000 Years of Longing is absolutely excellent. And Babylon is sure to become a cult fave. And Apocalypto is SO much better than Mel "Hates Jews" Gibson deserves. Saw Jacobs Ladder many moons ago, strange and really good. I'm finally going to watch the Jesse James, 3:10 to Yuma since my girlfriend went back to Switzerland so westerns are on the menu again, and I'll give Bones and All a shot as well and Devil's Backbone because Del Toro is amazing. Oh and I'll look into the Babble link too, because eventually I'm moving to Switzerland too Thanks for an amazing list!

I agree. I usually add 10-15 ratings points to Mel Gibson’s movies for all the unwarranted hatred he gets. It is loosely based (the second half) on The Naked Prey with Cornel Wilde. The sets and acting is stunning. I always watch this movie with subtitles. I find the native language very sonorous. Good Pick! As an aside I usually subtract 20 points from Christopher Nolan movies. I deem Dunkirk a disaster and travesty. He has too many fanboys padding the ratings.

It took me three days to finish watching Babylon. It has amazing visuals, but it is obvious early on that some bad things are going to happen to characters.... and then the movies stretches on for a long time. A couple of times I got to the point where I thought "I'm not up for this anymore" and turned it off for a day or so. My curiosity got the better of me and I eventually finished it and then immediately rewatched some of amazing scenes. Margot Robbie is excellent, though.

Battleship is one the dumbest movies I have ever seen. They get almost everything wrong. Let's start with the the opening. What appears to be a RADIO telescope shoots a beam of light into space to Landsat 7 which relays the beam - Landsat 7 is a satellite that takes pictures of the earth, nothing to do with lasers, etc.; next, Brooklyn Decker walks up to a male bartended and asks for a burrito, the man says, pointing to a microwave, "kitchen closed" - in what universe is a man going to deny Decker anything? Later the hero is given a choice between jail and becoming a Navy officer - never happen, in fact the navy will not even take someone with a criminal record; then the military montage wherein they screw up everything - wearing hats indoors, incorrect salutes, incorrect modes of address, etc.; then, what must be only a few years after the signal was sent, a swarm of alien probes is detected approaching earth - which means that the signal could not yet have reached the alien planet unless both the probes and light travel faster than light; then a probe which has been successfully traversing the universe for years (at above the speed of light) hits a satellite at relatively low speeds and falls apart - did their collision detection or shields or whatever suddenly fail ; then they find lawrencium in the alien probe - lawrencium has a half life of 4 hours so how could there be any? And it gets worse from there. As I said, it is so stupid I could not even turn my brain off and enjoy watching (even with Decker).

The problem with the Amazon 'version' of Ghost in the Shell is that it is dubbed in English. I saw it when it came out, with its Japanese sound track, and there is no comparison. I suppose it is fine for people who don't like sub-titles, but the English actors can't get the original feeling. It is a GREAT movie, otherwise highly recommended.
As far as Amadeus is concerned, it is visually beautiful, but it is a huge LIE from start to finish. If you forget that these characters are NOT true representations of Mozart and Salieri, then maybe the artificial philosophical argument of social obnoxiousness vs. talent may work. I thought it was a ridiculous paper tiger.

The first time I watched 3000 years of longing I hated it because of narrow mindedness and setting expectations. I rewatched it with a new set of eyes and I fell in love with the story. This is one of the best stories to have ever put on screen. George Miller is a fecking genius.

Taylor Kitsch had poor luck in film choices. Between Battleship and John Carter (of Mars) it is unfortunate that both movies were largely unwatched. He is an excellent actor but his Hollywood profile doesn't show it.
