And suddenly my whole family was watching Coin Patrol. Very good content. Onto a winner. More please.
Thank you Ian and thank you Ian's family 👍
It's fun and interesting to look through old magazines or coin books. I have one of 1968 for Mexican coinage and wish I could get coins for those relatively cheap prices. Thanks for sharing.
Great fun something different and a sign of the times all the coin shop have closed
Yes, it is sad they've closed, but I think the internet has made coin collecting cheaper. Thanks for watching Derrick 👍
The 1967 Canadian “proof-like” mint set goes for about $25-30 these days. It’s actually a nice set to own as it celebrated Canada’s centennial year. They put animal designs on all of their coins for that year before reverting back to their regular designs the following year. It was also the last year for circulating silver coins in Canada, with a silver dime, quarter, half dollar, and dollar.
Taking me back to my childhood. i found 2 copies of the Coin Monthly from 1967/68 in amongst some comics i bought in 1968. This started my interest in Numismatics and I still have both copies of the magazine in my collection.
That's great you still have the magazines Brian 👍
Great video again Paul. I used to buy this magazine & it was good to see a copy of it again. In 1967 I worked in retail and checked all the change in those days that came thru my till. My wage those days was a fiver a week for a 45 hr week.
£5 a week for 45 hrs, wow. You can't get a pint of Guinness in most places now for a fiver!
Did you keep any of the mags Keith?
Coin Monthly was a brilliant read. There were three coin magazines that I'd buy regularly, but this was by far the best
Did you keep any of the mags Graham?
@CoinPatrol I'd have a complete date run from late 70s to mid 80s. Stored safe in an attic in Bristol
Wow it wasn't worthwhile collecting coins back in 1968 coins are much cheaper now 😮 Thanks for Sharing Paul 😊
I remember buying Coins & Medals magazine in 1965 when I was a paperboy. I remember the first edition had a picture of an Edward VII coin on the front cover.
Have you still got that first edition Philip?
Unfortunately not. I would collect them and put them into binders.@@CoinPatrol
A fascinating trawl thru of yesteryear Paul... So illuminating to see that coin collecting was only for the very well off back then. It must have been pot luck for the buyers as there were so few pics of the coins that were for sale..
Yes, sad to see the shops close, but the internet has made the hobby cheaper and you can see the coins you are buying. Thanks for watching Ian 👍
Great entertainment as usual mate. Thanks very much.
Thaks a lot Alen 👍
Fascinating. You must have some storage for all these back catalogues
Catching up slowly - another great video - while I don't have any copies of Coin Monthly, I do have a London newspaper which reported Isaac Newton's funeral in the collection !
A interesting look back into yesteryear.
A wee bit before my time but fascinating nonetheless.
Great stuff 👍🏻
Fantastic video CP, really interesting . I thoroughly enjoyed that 😊👍.
Thanks a lot Jude 👍
Brilliant episode as always CP 👍 It was a little sad seeing all those buildings that used to be coin shops now turned into something else. It was a real shame that Victorian house is now gone.
Yes, I remember lots of coin and medal shops around. Hardly any now.
I bought a book full off farthings and ha'pennies...and pennies last Sunday at a car boot for a tenner...all the goodies had gone...no mint marks...(I have them all now anyway) and no 50/51 (I have a 51 - paid 25 quid for it!! - it brought me joy!)...but there was a modified effergy 1926 that folk had missed!!...so I actually own a Modified effergy 1926...there is actually nobody I know that would care if I told them so I am here right now telling you...because you are the only human I know (well I don't know but you know what I mean)that would care!! LOL!!
Multilateral Curves😂😂 I was quite surprised that Mary Gillick’s initials were almost impossible to see with the naked eye.
Yes, even on a uncirculated coin the MG is hard to see. Maybe the Queen wanted the designers initials as subtle as possible.
The different types of coin videos you come up with is just amazing. Nice trip around England as well! 😁. Think I would have just been starting my first year in senior school when that publication came out.
1968 and 1969 we're my favourite years at school. i hated the rest of it. Thanks for watching Glen 👍
I think Peter Ireland at 13A would have been in offices/rooms upstairs over a different shop below. Many dealers in stamps and coins didn't actually have a shopfront to their business in those days.
After I did this video I did a bit more research. If you go to Google streetview and then go back to 2009 you can see Peter Ireland's shop. It had moved to 31 Clifton Street, Blackpool. It's not there now though.
That was a fascinating video. My father used to cut out thinks about coins will have to dig it out👌👍
Interesting little bit from the history of coin collecting.👍
It is sad that none of those coin dealers are not in business anymore.
Great video and use of google earth. If you go to Bermuda, you get to see the space ship.
Yes, you're right I've just had a look on streetview. It does look like a flying saucer. lol
Her's the link, I hope it works.

I love your posts. So varied and informative . Keep up the good work .
Thank you Geoff 👍
A most interesting video.
Cheers Kev 👍
I managed to grab a huge lot of Coin Monthly magazines off of eBay a few years ago, some great articles. I have had a quick look and I do have all of 1968 except august, which I will have another look for then see if any of the articles you mentioned are in them.
Do you know when the first issue was published Matt? Do you have it?
@CoinPatrol not sure when it was first published, a Google search did come up with November 1966. I will have a look to see which is the oldest one I have when I get home this evening.
I very likely bought one of that very issue, in the day. I don't still have it, though. And, in case you're wondering, I've never signed by the name of Helen, for anything.
[Edited to add] We would sometimes say, e.g., _Twenty-seven and six_ instead of _One pound seven and six_ because it's faster - similarly, writing 27/6 is shorter than £1 7s 6d.
Yes, I remember people saying things like "That only cost me thirty bob" or "It's gone down from a fiver to Forty five and six"
Also they didn't have to show the £ sign so it made things look cheaper.
Joan Allen now sells metal detectors
Joan Allen are in the middle of shutting down now. Their office got hacked recently and they haven't recovered.
very interesting, i wonder why all the coin shops shut down. possibly the internet has something to do with it
Yes, definitely Darren. Sad to see the shops close, but the internet has made coins cheaper to buy.
That was really enjoyable could you do more like this please 😊
Yes, I will do more videos like this. Thanks for watching 👍
@@CoinPatrol great especially liked the google earth segments where the shops used to be.
Looked like Blackpool was quite the place for coin shops back in the day.
Are there any shops left in the uk or is it all online now
Thanks again dave from Birmingham
Hi Dave. There are still lots of shops where you can buy coins, but not shops that just specialise in coins. A lot of antique shops have coin sections.
Great sleuthing
Thank you 🔍 👍
A bit of uninformed hype on the Churchill there. Wonder if they knew at that point the mintage of 19million?
In the article it says "several million will be minted" so they probably didn't think it would be as many as 19,640,000
Didn't Joan Allen start selling metal detectors.
Yes, you're right. I've even bought stuff from Joan Allen in the past. The name didn't ring a bell till after I made the video.
They probably selected the ugliest ones they didn't want to keep, that's probably what selected quality means 😜
Yes, I think you could be right Alrik 👍
Very interesting and entertaining!
Thanks Scarlett 👍
As I've noticed from your last comment on my channel that you don't leave comments so here I am not leaving a comment on your channel 😂 (great video but don't tell anyone that I said so 👍)
Cheers Dave. I won't tell anyone that you commented! 👍

I’ve not seen either of you comment on eithers videos 😂
