    As Bugs Bunny once said: Be it ever so crumbly, there's no place like Rome.

    Enjoyed your video, as always. Probably my favorite racing game. Good choices, tension, little downtime and feels like the perfect length for what's there. Plus, Rome!

    I’m keen to play this one. If you haven’t already you should also try Sekigahara by the same designer, it’s quite good.

    Matching the Emperor moves you +1 on the skills track, not the circuit. Matt Calkins has produced another beauty.

    I really wanted to like this one but I really did not.
    I have a lot of issues with it. Massive amount of luck with the cards, the lack of any real catch up mechanic. Just to name a few.
    I am big fan of the designer and I am looking forward to his other releases.
    Thanks so much for the review!

      Thank you. I don’t have so much of an issue with luck, but I can see how some people don’t care for it.

      I've played it twice, really enjoy it but do have the same concerns. Each game we had one player that just didn't get decent cards for movement and never could get the bonus tiles or whips to attempt a catchup. Both times that last player got lapped on the very last turn by the leaders. And both times the leaders had so many bonus whip tiles they could never use them.

    • @RottenJeeves
      @RottenJeeves ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Mark Patoka I had almost the same experience In reverse. We had a player who was nearly two laps ahead and nothing we could do about it.

      ... and poor material for 80 bucks. Generic and ugly design... No respect for the theme ( ancient Rome ) ...

    I have played both this and Heat once and like this much more. It lacks fiddliness, which Heat has when it comes to corners. Just a lot of fun and I hope to get it to the table often.

    • @TheDiscriminatingGamer

      Indeed. Great game. I'd like to try Heat at some point, but I really do enjoy this one quite a bit.

    I trust you 100 % that this is a fun game. But Lets talk about value for money. We must have excellent equipment for 80 euros ( or dollars, but that is the price in France ). The "thing" that represents the race looks like what could have been done in 1997. I mean I am a fan of ancient rome and they should have done better, out of respect for the theme. And the rest of matériel doesnt look nice too. it's also important for replayability. Well, no for me, unfortunately. About ancient game, I go back to " Time of crisis " and expansion, I really get what I pay for with this fantastic game

    • @TheDiscriminatingGamer
      @TheDiscriminatingGamer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Time of Crisis is a great game, for sure, but very different. As racing games go, this is one of the best I've played in a long time.

    Thanks Cody, I have Chariots of Rome which is an amazing game, I’m afraid I won’t be jumping ship. I’m not keen on the production. The cards lack theme. Play chariots of Rome and you’ll notice the difference.
