I found this because I was looking for info on the x4 but I had to comment about how EXCELLENT a review you have produced. Thorough, entertaining, not too long or too short. Subscribed.
I think of my X3 sometimes as a camera which can appear to be several cameras at once, by reframing without panning later (which seems to be an underused technique). Also it is a camera which allows me to enjoy the moment on family or tourist occasions without having to have my eye glued to a viewfinder. Just wave it in the air, or put it on a tripod in the middle of the action, and sort it out later. When it comes to workflow it's worth pointing out that the Studio version 5 PC app now allows reframing etc and editing together multiple clips in one pass, for those who don't want to use a second editor for that (and who think like I do that one-pass editing is at least in theory better than two passes). Finally, I almost cried when I heard the bonk of the lens of your X4 hitting the table - followed shortly after by a shot where the lens looked a bit dirty or scratched... I never put my X3 down unless onto a soft surface. Will I get the X4? I'm sorely tempted but I keep buying / upgrading cameras but then not actually using them... Anyway, great video, thanks for posting.
Using a 360-camera to appear like a multi-cam setup is genius! And yeah, my muscle memory of being more gentle with 360 cameras hasn’t developed enough yet haha-thanks for watching!
this is one of the best X4 reviews I've seen- and I loved how you incorporated it with other mirrorless footage. I have one at my job and I'm loving it but I'm thinking of getting one for my personal use. I would love a tutorial on how you approach grading the flat color profile. I feel like there is very few resources and I'm loving the colors you're getting from the camera and how well you're matching it to the Sony ZVE10
Honestly a lot of it is just color correcting it to match my Sony footage by eye using CineMatch or Lumetri Color in Premiere Pro then copying over the same color grade from the Sony footage onto the X4 footage, that way it ends up being consistent in how the footage is graded!

Am thinking of adding a 5th camera angle using 360. Currently using 3cam interview set up with dji pocket for wide coverage. Planning to take advantage of the circular earth effect as a creative shot. My only concern is if it would take away from storytelling, and recording over 20mins video be pain in the transcoding. Curious on your thoughts on this matter. And does the earth look work well on indoors?
That'd be a creative way to use 360! I agree with 20+ minute recordings potentially being an issue (the X4's 8K mode indicates that it can potentially overheat but I filmed for about 10-12 minutes outside in the heat without issue, though the X4 did get pretty warm), transcoding though it's not the worst thing in the world, just adds a few minutes to your workflow. The Earth effect works well indoors as long as there's sufficient lighting.
Yes! You can choose your field of view when editing the file on your phone or computer, and in some modes like the “Me” mode, you’ll have just a flat video file (and not a 360 video), if that’s your preferred workflow!
Awesome video! But I wonder how does it wagers against Insta360 One RS 1-Inch with X4. Specifically in Dynamic range/HDR performance, low lights and in-camera audio quality.
I like the idea of a 360 camera but I just don’t know if it would sit and collect dust other than me using it for real estate. Great breakdown as alway!
Brighter lighting conditions for sure! HDR does best when there's a lot of highlights and it tries to balance it so there's less overexposed portions of the image. For exporting, I would recommend just exporting to H264 if it's going straight to social media. If you plan on doing further editing, like color grading, then I would recommend ProRes so it has max details still before you push the image further :)
Total newbie here. 1) whats that invisible selfie stick? (easily impressed here) 2) Realtor here. any use for insta 360 for engaging house tour shots, low, high, slow mo, walk throughs... am thinking it would be creative and fun to shoot as i walk through or use your stick for walk and talks. thoughts?
It's the selfie stick accessory that they sell, but really any selfie stick with similar dimensions will work. Their software processes and removes it so you don't see it in the footage! As for walkthroughs, I would say yes! You can use it as a selfie stick to get yourself in the footage of the walkthrough or just use it as a camera for filming a more traditional walkthrough, a side benefit is that you can also use it to capture 360 photos for any listings, you can set it up on a tripod, hit the timer and step out of the room.
Most editing programs will let you edit your footage to change the colors via adjustments and filters. I use Adobe Premiere for color grading (using Lumetri Colors)
Also, very much enjoy your creative filming and clean cuts! Makes the review easier to watch for this brain that is far too accustomed to 15 second videos.
Just got mine in the mail today so haven't had time to put it through its paces but it seems like most reviewers of this camera tout the reframing advantage. If your environment is rectilinear 4k you now have a camera that can ALMOST allow you to reframe 360 content that can be integrated with your 4k footage from a real camera. For me, I have used VR cameras for actual VR purposes using occulus headsets and so far have only used 4k vr 360 cameras for this. This content is soft as kittens in a 360 space so I am hoping that doubling the resolution will make future content more pleasing.
I have a PIXPro and give up - the remote is a PIA and the result is not much better than the old S360 that is no longer supported. But my daytime/early AM 360 videos let me relive some great memories of Cancun, PVR and other vacation spots. Once you (re) experience places in 360 - even medium quality, flat memories never come close. I was hoping the new X4 would finally be a good medium-price alternative. The PIXPro has no battery life and the setup is excruciating. Jeeze - it just hit me! You guys are not WATCHING your videos in VR! You need a VR headset (the new Quest Q3S is pretty cheap but you can pick up a used Q2 for a few hundred $). Reliving your RL experiences in VR 360 will put you back into your experiences - the only thing missing is the smell!
Wow, incredible video; I learned a lot about this camera. I’m the owner of five GoPro cameras (5, 8, 11, & two 12). I recently purchased a new Stellar S18 EXP G2 kayak, and have started doing videos for publication to my web & Utube sites. Now that I know about this camera and how good it is, this will most likely be my next camera purchase. The only thing that will be difficult is having to purchase all the accessories, which I have a ton of for the GoPros. Thanks, Greg
The accessory ecosystem is definitely a tough pill to swallow, but for the most part I feel like I only need 3-4 for the Insta360 cameras (mainly just the selfie stick).
Sure, low light can be improved but still love this camera. It's the most versatile use immersive and creative interviews n vlogging for my Society x Culture News channel for my 800k followers social media. I love the overall image quality for third-person perspective, like an establishing shot. use it in what i call the utimate vlogging combo. The X4 (B-CAM third person shots) n Osmo pocket 3 [MAIN CAM) . Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses is a plus for POV..I use two DJI Transmitters (TX) with my Osmo pocket 3 had already bought one to use with my insta360 X3 (now using X4).

I don't use this cameras for jumping on the airplane, riding motorbike, vlogging etc. but mostly for my personal travels and have great memories. How big are the biggest files you got from the X4? i would like to run it with a powered selfiestick for up to 4 hours roadtrip with the gps data in 1 file instead of many 30min, like on my X3. Tnx.

the part where it goes from "super shakey footage" to "extremely smooth footage" still looks really shakey.. i want to like this thing.. but idk if its worth buying all new cameras and gear. wish i had one to try out for free.
Haha, appreciate it. It’s all about matching placement and movement in both shots, and making sure nothing in the frame changes (e.g., lighting). The movement itself helps hide the transition and all it is is a hard cut from one clip to the next!
How did you edit the video to all fit to the frame size with the footage from the 360 footage, I edited my clips for a video on the app added my videos to adobe premiere and the video was fried. Scaled by 16:9 and had added footage from my camera
I used the Insta360 3m(9.8ft) extended selfie stick and probably had it extended out about 5 feet and then just held the stick behind me while balancing it on my shoulder! Product Link: amzn.to/3xzlHkq
This would definitely be a cool way to film a concert, especially if you want the 360 footage to be able to revisit it from that perspective/via VR goggles. If you’re just looking for a static video though (like a 16:9 video), then it has pros and cons and in my opinion I’d personally rather shoot that on the latest smart phone over it just out of sheer convenience (because honestly phone footage can look fantastic). A lot of concert venues won’t allow selfie sticks though and that makes shooting with 360-cameras a bit difficult. Hope this helps!
I have an Anker wall charger that can push high output so I can charge the X4 faster, but I’m pretty sure you could use an iPhone wall charger as well!
@@RADIMIDIALuizLau I don't remember the model of the wall charger, but yes I just plug the USB-C cable to the wall brick and straight into the X4 (since I only have one battery). If I had multiple batteries, I'd probably pick up a charging dock :)
Is a great camera for outdoor content like vlog or sports Indoors isn’t as great as my iPhone 14 Pro . If you do TH-cam vlogs or sports reels then this is a perfect camera .
A great video, well done and thank you. My experience with my version has been terrible, the video quality is atrocious and nowhere near as good as yours even though I’ve triple checked the best settings. To make matters worse, it’s been nearly a month of going backwards and forwards with Insta360, them sending me the same emails and stalling for time, even though I’ve sent them footage which clearly shows there’s something wrong with the camera, and still I’m just getting a basic auto response email. I accept the odd camera can be faulty, what I can’t accept is the way that Insta deal with a customer who has a track record of buying lots of products through them. This combined with sponsor declaration issues are leaving a very bad taste. I’m coming to the conclusion that this is a company that should be avoided.
That’s so crappy to hear-they make genuinely interesting products that I love reviewing and using but hearing that their customer support isn’t all that great (plus the sponsorship dodginess) is such a shame.
I'm not sure if this is the best way to do that, LiDAR would be better I'd imagine? But you could use this to capture photos for 3D lighting/environmental reflections!
Question. When videoing with the gopro max (also a 360 camera) at 3.2k when you edit and export it its only at a max of 720 and 4k exports at 1080p. Quite dissapointing. Does anyone know if the same happens with the insta 360? Im looking to change

How is the low-light capabilities in your opinion and how long can the cam actually film? Does it overheat quickly?

I think so! It takes fantastic 360 photos so it should be perfect for making HDRIs.

Which wall charger do you use for the Insta360 X4 or the X4 Charger? Could it be the iPhone charger?

I used phone Redmi C13. I can't download the insta360 app..it says that my phone didn't compatible for the app.. can anybody tell me why and what should I do?
@@ManTeybor i had an old phone and the app didnt worked because my phone was not good enough so now i got an iphone and the app works without Problems
i need a 360 cam that can film for 2-3 hours nonstop without overheating at 40-45 celcius. waterproof for surfing beach saltwater. is there a option?
Depending on which resolution you use this may not be your camera. At 8K this thing gets hot fast.
if i could use with ND filters I would buy it

I just ordered one. When I get it I'll work on an adapter for it. That's something I would like as well. I could probably use drone filters. 👍
