X-Men 97 didn't riffs the original X-men cartoon series, this new animation is just a reimagined by keeping it like in the 90's.
What do you think the word "riff" means?

Actually the new animation is not even American 90s at all. It's actually anime. It's by the Korean anime studio mir. Who did show some video game animated movies and also Voltron legendary defender and legend of korra

When used in the phrase “riff on”, it means to take a certain idea and build upon it in a way that is original or distinct but pays homage to the previous concept. In other words, it means exactly what you said. This new opening is a reimagined version of the original- similar enough that the inspiration is obvious but with added elements to make it fresh. So it is fair to say that it is a “riff on”, or a variation of the old opening. I think you mistook the phrase for “rip off”, which means to steal. To make matters worse, you can say “riff off’ to mean the same thing as “it’s a riff on”. English can be confusing.

I still perfer the original it's more RAW, you know rougher is sometimes better, that's what gave the original character.
All the characters in the original look bigger, the characters look puney in the new version.

It's waaaay to out of context (imagine Storm running in a fight instead of flying), but somehow, It feels good for a super heroes intro.

I'd say the worst thing they did was removing the sound effects for magneto and xavier abilities faceoff at the end. The way the sounds of there powers just syncs and elevates the music as it reaches its peak is just way to good.

*Cons* of new Trailer
1. 0:20 - In the lightning effect, Storm has the shadow of cloud on her, while the new trailer doesn't add that. Which makes it less realistic and less epic.
2. 0:35 - Much better pose for Beast in old theme.
3. 0:56 - In the running shot, angle/perspective is better in old one.

1. 0:16 - Better drawn Wolverine
2. 0:18 - Better Rouge with color correction
3. 0:25 - Better jump , leg animation is dynamic
4. 0:31 - Better Gene design (inspired from X-Men evolution)
5. 0:35 - Beast jump is better. (impact shown on object)
6. 0:37 - Improved animation
Jean had her full hair untied in the actual X-men #1 comics. It was only in The Animated Series that she had it in a ponytail for easier animation.
Jean's outfit design is actually more faithful in X-men 97 to the Jim Lee comics.
1. New one has darker clouds which makes new one more epic.
2. Old pose is better? Watch slowly, he is weirdly rubbery

Why are skin colors so off in the original? This comes in every episode, they should have spend some time making it.
Either a bad analog transfer or the uploader messed up a setting when he outputted the video. Colors look fine in the actual original opening.
It took over 25 years for Marvel to look like Marvel again.

He's probably a new member. If not then it's something the original didn't change.
In the original, there were no intro sections for Morph nor Bishop, even though Morph was a recurring character, and Bishop had been introduced in the Uncanny X-Men vol 1 issue #283 (a few months before the start of the animated series) and he became a permanent character in issue #290!

They made the right choice by just updating the animation of the intro, and leaving the template as is

The original creator demanded that the theme song and cast weren't changed for the remake. Those were his 2 stipulations

This is my opinion and no one has agree with me!. The new version is okay BUT!!!!.the original has more heart and soul with the sound effects in the original opening theme!. Also the original theme sets the tone of the of the entire show!.,

Disney didn't want to put Jubilee running away from an angry mob in the intro.
Well to be fair they had to add Morph and Bishop
They added Roberto for her part. Which makes sense since current Jubilee is too powerful for an angry mob to beat since she was shown in the shown to defeat fodder Friends of Humanity members
She blew the face off of Bastion. She has graduated.
The only things I liked in the newer one is how they made the running look more realistic and the shot with Rogue throwing the sentinel to the ground (seriously that shot is definitely an upscale). But otherwise I like the original one better

Xavier and Magnus look much older in X-Men '97 compared to the original. They look like 30 to 40ish in X-Men TAS meanwhile they look like 70 in X-Men '97.
