  • In this buying and depreciation guide of the McLaren 570s, I’m showing you the depreciation per year and per 1000 miles driven. Furthermore, I show what the forecasted values and fair purchasing prices are and how the depreciation numbers compare to other cars such as the Porsche GT3 and Audi R8 V10. Buying your first McLaren? This is the video to watch.
    You can contact me on fourwheeltrader@gmail.com if you would like a personalized analysis.
    There has been a lot of talk about McLarens and their depreciation rate; they are frequently blamed for depreciating significantly more than other cars in the same segment. Many of these accusations are, in my opinion, ungrounded. In this video, I will therefore show you what the actual depreciation rate is and how the McLaren rates compare to other cars.
    The video is structured in a top-down way. That means that we first have a look at the market as a whole and some general price levels for the McLaren 570S market. After this, we will dive into the details.
    Specifically, this means that the video for the 570 is split a few parts. In the first part, we will explore the market and have a look at the average price points. In the second part, we will figure out the depreciation per year and compare this depreciation curve to the one of the Porsche GT3 and Audi R8 V10. From this, it already becomes clear that the depreciation for the McLaren is in line with the market. In the third part, we will have a look at the depreciation per 1000 miles driven. The video continues by ranking the 570on the depreciation leader board. This shows us that the absolute depreciation rate is very high, but that the relative rate is in line with many the normal market dynamics.
    Note that all the prices are advertised prices.

    With the new 570s you really can't take the listed price as any form of guide. Typically you would expect to get £25-30k off the list price without any form of haggle. The dealers here in the UK were heavily discounting new coupes and spiders this past year that it actually made buying a new one cheaper than a used one, if you were going down a PCP route. Great video though....would love to see your view on the best buys at different price points...for £80k would a 570s or a gen 2 R8+ be a better 3 year buy overall (also factor in the crazy warranty costs).

      Good points. I indeed heard about the crazy PCP deals in the UK. Interesting video suggestion also.

    Here in the UK I was checking the depreciation of the 570s...this time last year you could get one here with average mileage for year (17 plate) at around £114K now you can get the same 17 plate for £85K - £94K!!...talk about depreciation, GT version fares marginally better 2017 - £106K 2019 - £92K (less on the market).

      It would require a seperate analysis of the UK market. The values don't always transfer one-to-one between car markets due to taxation differences and local market factors.

    Very interesting insight. I think depreciation is a double edged sword, it sucks for pple who buy it new and is awesome for pple buy it used. In the examples of the 570s and gen2 r8 v10 listed here, they are a bargain since you dont need to wait too long to get one as the depreciation is crazy steep. A used R8 is definitely a better bargain, because the factory CPO gives 6 years warranty and there are a lot of cheap factory-level extended warranty available of up to 10 years for very little cost. A Mclaren extended warranty on the other hand would cost 4-5k a year (for comparison, a 10 year warranty on the r8 would cost around 5-6k), plus the fact there are limited dealers or even more limited independent mechanics to cut down the service costs. If the 570s would really reach the 110k mark next year, i dont think anything in existence comes as close in the performance figures and exotic looks for the same money

    • @fourwheeltrader
      @fourwheeltrader  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the good input. I didn't look to the extended warranties, but they are indeed quite expensive for the Mclarens.

    • @jameswillard1
      @jameswillard1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Richardlizhu the 600LT was more visceral/raw and honestly I really want one, but I think the 570S for the money is the better buy since 600’s seem to be in a free fall at the moment. Power doesn’t feel that much different but engine sounds better in 600, transmission is faster, and just overall a better car. I have seen some really great deals on 570’s though and they seem to be more stable in price. Just avoid 2016 models but I’m assuming since you’re looking at 600LT’s your looking at very late model 570’s too

    • @jameswillard1
      @jameswillard1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oops just saw your looking at Spiders, so you’re def looking at newer 570’s since those didn’t start till 2018 model year. Forget my 2016 comment then

  • @winterfrost8623
    @winterfrost8623 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    One thing you could add to your reviews that I think would be really helpful for a lot of people is a graph showing how prices for said car will more or less look like in the future, for say, the coming 5 years or so, that way people who own a 570s (or any other car you review) can see how much they would lose when and if they sell it, but also people who would like to buy that car in the future can get an idea of what to expect! I'd like to buy one of these cars in 2 or 3 years (a gt model, not an S), and would be interested to see about how much a used one would cost, from what I've gathered from this video, it seems like in 3 years, one of those cars with about 10,000 miles on it, could be around 80,000 euros, is that correct?

    • @fourwheeltrader
      @fourwheeltrader  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the tip! I usually include an one year forecast. A five year forecast is a bit too long for these cars, in my opinion. I did some three years forecast and that I would say is about the maximum number of years.
