When our rent went up to $1300 for a small 2 bedroom apartment, my husband and I decided to buy. My morgage for a single family 3 bedroom house in Portland is 1,450 a month. Not a big price difference per month in cost, but you get so much more for your money buying instead of renting.
Great videos. I'm from NJ and been thinking of moving to the Maine area. But hearing some of these prices might as well stay here on the coast. Cost of living vs average income doesn't pay off.
YES ITS EXPENSIVE... don't be Gullible... Research is educational and priceless... 4 bedroom 1 bath home to rent $2200 a month, pay for oil & lights & water... 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ Now in Virginia 4 bed 2 full baths 1800... Best move yet. Schools are better & children has excelled. Been here since Sept 2021 & Maine schools STILL call to say the children are absent. Oh my goodness 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Don't forget to mention the homeless camping out every other block due yourself a favor and , stay where you are damp moldy housing , very cold winters high taxes , high oil and gas prices high food prices , your better off in Hawaii it cost the same there and no snow.
How good is the internet and mobile services in Carabou, Maine? Who is the central provider for that area for internet and mobile phones? Is there service at least better in the spring and summer? If contact is limited in this area, due to long-term power outages over the winter months, do people normally pay their bills ahead of time? Do doctors provide long-term prescriptions over the winter months? Lastly, what are staple items to stock up on for the home and everyday life, if snowed in during the winter?
With the high cost of monthly rent or mortgage, how do the jobs pay? Will I be able to get a job that will support $1,000 to $2,000 rent or mortgage? I pay $650 here in Virginia but hate it here. I'm really interested in Maine. I'm just not used to paying over a $1000 for rent. Even in a college town here in Virginia, rent for a 2 bedroom apartment is only $600. So do jobs in Portland pay enough to support rent and mortgage's being over $1000?
Great question! The answer is that it depends on several factors, in particular what do you do for work, and where specifically would you want to live? Feel free to DM or give us a call if you'd like to discuss your particular situation.
Absolutely, want to move here. But i dont know how to move in this city. Im so in love with this place. Considering myself on the right place for living in the future. Coz i want to moved city where people so closed and quited person
Planning on moving from South Africa to Portland. I work with my family for an airconditioning company. What is business like in that field over there?
Well....I'm no expert and I'm not sure how you would become one but as a lifelong Mainer I can tell you that the only possible way you could sustain yourself is to be seasonal. We only need AC's maybe 3-4 months out of the year and once we buy them we tend to keep them for years. However, if you moved to a small enough town where you'd be the only immediate supplier of them it could work. Good luck!!
Hello i am filipino nurse. I will be flying soon in portland maine to work. Do you think an offer of 27$ dollars per hour rate could survive in portand mAine?
Looking to rent. Im sure it may be iffy seeking low rentals in Portland but im not fussy and willing to live anywhere around Portland, work for motel 6 corporate and im relocating to Portland Maine. Any ideas where i can find sources, links, search's for local rentals?
You lost me at those green trash bags. That's ridiculous. Do you have any idea how many bags of rubbish the average family throws away in a week that is going to add up real quick. I pay about $72 per quarter for my trash pickup that I can put out Five Barrels a week and no green trash bags whatever I put in the barrels they'll take. I'm looking to move to Maine but probably more around the Bangor area.
I don't even know anymore. With COVID-19 it's hard to say how much this will affect everything moving forward but if things get back to "normal" I'd say fairly decent. It's a very small city so it all depends on what you want to do. It's a great place for entrepreneurs because we're very anti-corporate.
I'm 26. First time I ever made friends with a black person was around 21. I've never had a Hispanic friend and don't know any Hispanic people, even as a Portlander. I'd say the most diversity I ever saw growing up in Sanford was Vietnamese people. Most of our diversity is in Southern Maine, made up mostly of Somalians, Iraqis, and, within the last two years or so, Congolese and Angolan. You get out of these towns and you can go days maybe weeks without seeing anyone who isn't white. We're also the least religious state in the country as well. Out of everyone I know only two people are Catholics and one of them is originally from Mass. However, if you're a POC don't be scared. It's very, very safe here.

Fantastic! Yes, with rates as low as they are now, it makes a lot more sense to buy vs. rent.
Would love to know more about groceries in general and fresh produce in particular

short answer, yes. It's like the Boston of Maine. Average house price is like half a million dollars.
Oh yeah we are real estate agents in Portland, Maine. Portland is unaffordable, I had to move away from Portland because of the prices.
I bet its gotten worse. But renting in Boston is also insane right now too.

Its cold, so idk....??

Hi Michael. Yes, I think that would be a great start. Let us know when you get to town!
Can you talk about buying a condo in Portland?
Looking to rent. Im sure it may be iffy seeking low rentals in Portland but im not fussy and willing to live anywhere around Portland, work for motel 6 corporate and im relocating to Portland Maine. Any ideas where i can find sources, links, search's for local rentals?

James Bond Bangor is consider the poorest city in Maine. There are not many jobs up in that area.
Property taxes? That’s the big one
Very true. And some towns are a lot more/less than others.
What are the job opportunities like in Portland?

What about seafood?
Is there diversity of people?
HI Tiffany. The short answer is yes, and that will of course vary by town and city in and around Portland.
Maine is overall 95% White people. That's why its the safest state in America. Diversity is our greatest weakness.
