Watching you work with the novice handler is more valuable that watching you work alone. There is a theory of learning that we actually learn from our mistakes. What I notice about a lot of people is that they are poor at responding to instruction.

      Haaa. Good observations
Truth be known, I’m probably a little like this, I remember when had sought out help from my mentors. I Could feel all the braces in me. 😄
This can also cause me to consider the horses point of view when I’m working with them.
I think that both horses and humans need just a little time to respond, some longer than others
Thank you for the comment it’s good to consider.

@@Deering777 There's a theory of learning that we actually learn from our mistakes. In this case the lady doesn't realize she is blocking the horse. She's not as handy at throwing the rope as you, so her mind is on that, and she's somewhat tuned out to your instructions because her mind is actually on handling the rope more than how her body movement is affecting the horse.
I start my first horsemanship lessons today. It will be interesting to see how I do. it always looks easier than it is when you are watching a professional. My definition of professionalism is carrying out the task with the least amount of effort possible.
From watching horse training videos, I have my dog walking on a slack lease and the loop is just hanging on one finger that is held out straight. If he starts creeping ahead I just put a very minimal amount of pressure on him. A small verbal command is usually enough to slow him down., without doing anything with the leash.

I agree with you, at my clinics I always mention this, even when I was learning from one of my mentors in the past, I never performed at 100% because of a lot of things you say here.
us to do lots to think about, a lot of times, we don’t get the lesson or the full value out of it until months later thank you for your comment, I even learned from the comments

What do you mean? In the video, you mean what she is doing or ?

Correct me if I’m wrong Cody, but I think ‘turning him loose’ means to send the horse out on the line moving forward.

Yes, it can mean that and it does mean that, but there is more that I want that to mean for the horse.
To turn a horse loose or to get a horse to turn loose is to let down defenses. to come through with a answer that will put the horse at ease around the human
We don’t want to blast around us, thinking it has to get away

This is also the reason why the horse in the video was so hard to get going out on the circle, it knew, and remembered it had some pressure that was not fitting, from the past, and it was telling me it would rather not go, because when it finally went it had those emotions come up and was scared frantic etc. etc.
So I was asking the Horse to trust me that it can in fact go out on the circle and once it’s out there it’s not going to be chased and stared in the eye while it goes around, etc. etc.
      Does that make sense?
