What makes this song great is that it starts out as an easy-going, nothing little country ditty, and by the end it is a runaway freight train. This is why I LOVE the Allman Brothers Band.
Duane Allman played on Wilson Pickett's version of Hey Jude. Eric Clapton heard the song and asked the question, "Who's playing that guitar?' And just like that, attention was focused on southern rock, and a legend was born. After Duane's death in a motorcycle accident, Dickie Betts stepped into the limelight. He was always a great player (and writer), but was understandably walking in Duane's shadow. Dickie was one of the greats and deserves to be recognized as such, and the Allman Brothers Band will always be in the conversation when talking about great American bands.
Yes, the original lineup was beyond great. Live at the Fillmore East proved that. Did you catch the In Concert special that captured a lot of moments from those two concerts? I think it was broadcast in '71 or 72. That was my introduction to the band. It's hard to believe they only got paid somewhere around 1200.00 a night for those two shows. @@vicprovost2561
1975 here. Super era for music. I saw The Allman Brothers in 1975 at the Oakland Coliseum and that was when Gregg was going with Cher, She was at the side of the stage kind of below the stage and you could see her dancing away, she was feeling good too, stoned big time. What a concert that was! Wow
Saw them doing this live on a beautiful autumn day, clear blue sky, with the leafs turned, color everywhere, at the Lenox Music Inn, in Lenox MA. Magical day forever etched in my memory.
Nice, one of their best known songs that features Dickie Betts on vocals and lead guitar, a great road trip song to say the least, they have many. From their brilliant Live At Fillmore East, do Stormy Monday for a great cover of blues great T Bone Walker. Their guitars are not just instruments live but true voices in counterpoint to Greg Allman's great bluesy/soulful vocals. Enjoy pretty lady, you had very happy eyes as this song got going, made me smile knowing this band will always be listened to. They were huge for us in high school. Rock On! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎹🎶
Love the Allman Brothers. They have a nice blend of country, rock & blues that II can listen to anytime. Been watchin' for some time now & you seem to enjoy a diverse selection of music, thanks.
High school class of '73 in South Carolina. We grew up on the Allman Brothers catalog. "Not My Cross to Bear," "Melissa," "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed," "One Way Out," "Statesboro Blues," "Blue Sky," "Ain't Wastin' Time No More," "Midnight Rider," "Jessica," "Revival," "Trouble No More," "Dreams," "Don't Keep Me Wonderin'"..... so many great songs on great albums like "Live at Fillmore East" and "Eat a Peach." A rabbit hole worth crawling into.
Thanks for the presentation. Duane Allman had died before this was recorded, but Les Dudek played on this as well as “Jessica,” but didn’t replace Duane. RIP Duane. RIP GREG. RIP BERRY.
This song and others remind me, when I was a teenager, when music I most wanted to hear was not at my fingertips, how wonderful it was to turn on the car radio and be lucky enough to hear it.
That was Dickie Betts singing on this. Greg Allman sang the most but Betts was nice alternative. I'm 67 and grew up in Memphis so I grew up with all this great music. Love your show❤
Well, the best advice I can give is: 1) sit in chair in relaxed position.......2) focus.......3) make sure you don't contract any of your muscles......and finally, try thinking of pink elephants as a distraction mechanism. If you follow these steps, I think you'll get your wish.....Good luck!
Love the guitars of the Allman brothers and this has a country feel. As you say good road music and a TV programme about cars and road trips in the UK called Top Gear, used their song 'Brothers and Sisters' as its theme music-Colin Ward
So many good songs from this band. They were the first band of the "Southern Rock "genre. Check out "Midnight Rider" and "Melissa" both great songs. Fun fact: On the cover of the "Brothers and Sisters" album is Butch Trucks (the drummer) and his wife's son Vaylor and on the back cover is Berry Oakley (one of the guitarists) and his wife's daughter Brittany.
I lived by these very words, Also, one of the first songs I learned to play on a guitar. Thanks for the memories. Please look into some more of the second side of the music world, these are the best.
I think this is my favorite song by them! I always get confused, but one of the brothers had a lot to do with the song Layla by Derek And The Dominoes, Eric Clapton! See you on the other side!
Another classic Allman Brothers hit. If your going to react to the Brothers again, the song Southbound is an ABSOLUTE MUST! Once you hear it you can thank me later!! And as always another great reaction, keep up the good work.
If you want a great "feel good" song and/or road trip song, check out "Jessica" by the Allman Brothers. It's an instrumental that is very upbeat and fun with some great transitions. It's my favorite AB song.
Only song I ever liked by the Allman Brothers...it was about telling a story, an upbeat tempo and song. The guitar [duet?] playing was out of this world. Fall 1973.
Some might suggest that as my theme song, so normally I’d have a lot to add to the conversation. Instead, it makes me sad that anyone would/could relate this classic to a corporate commercial. Hate to hear my life’s soundtrack co-opted to sell tires, or beer, or mattresses, or some new drug. So glad to see young people get a fresh look at history. Thanks
If you thought this was a great Traveling / Road Trip song , check out their Instrumental "Jessica" from the same "Brothers & Sisters" album . If you've ever seen the movie "Field of Dreams" they use the song perfectly when Kevin Costner & James Earl Jones are traveling the highways in that classic VW Mini bus 🙂
I agree! I know a couple of brothers from Georgia; really good guys, but they're very nutty! lol......They're called the "Almond Brothers" but they're not musically incline because they won't come out of their shells...
Angela We all lost a legend today with the passing of Toby Keith was hoping you could react to his song Can't go Back in his memory. it is not one of his most popular but I think you will enjoy it and its message.
Love the Allman brothers.....here's something completely different, when you're ready....."We'll Meet Again" by The Fat Rat and performed by Laura Brehm. It's only 3 years old.
Great song but PLEASE listen to Midnight Rider by the Allman Brothers. Gregg Allman is one of favorites. 1987 "I'm No Angel" is a Gregg Allman top hit when he went solo.
Now thats classic southern rock at its iconic best
Just what I was going to say. Fun song!
Pure raw talent, no gimmicks or auto-tune; Just face melting music from back in the day.
Dicky Betts is one of the most underrated but greatest guitarists ever
One of the most upbeat, feel good songs ever recorded.
What makes this song great is that it starts out as an easy-going, nothing little country ditty, and by the end it is a runaway freight train. This is why I LOVE the Allman Brothers Band.
True

The original band was beyond great but no matter who was in the band, they always were and sounded like the Allman Brothers.

Love this song! Another song that is great for roadtrips by The Allman Brothers Band is "Blue Sky". Great reaction!

Great album
I can't even begin to count how many times I've heard this song headen down highway 41 in Northwest Georgia.
Love the Allman Brothers. They have a nice blend of country, rock & blues that II can listen to anytime. Been watchin' for some time now & you seem to enjoy a diverse selection of music, thanks.
"They're always having a good time down on the bayou, oh Lord, them Delta women think the world of me''....always loved that line!

Me too, you got a good point about how we had to wait to her that song we liked...
Great music, I was fortunate to grow up in the 70’s…… you have a beautiful smile.
Classic! This was heard EVERYWHERE in the 70s. My college was way up in northern Michigan, and my dorm was right on highway 41.
That was Dickie Betts singing on this. Greg Allman sang the most but Betts was nice alternative. I'm 67 and grew up in Memphis so I grew up with all this great music. Love your show❤
Awesome band making fantastic music!! Great song!!
I was in Jr. High when this was in the Top 40. Geeze that over 50yrs ago
This is a great song. Love the vocals, instrumentation, and even the closing is amazing.
How could you NOT dance to this music,,,,💥💥💥👍😎

Live, we sure did! 🎸🎤🎸
Fabulous 70s best era for music
theme for all of us married for 45 years and happy - but I still feel like a rambling man
The best part of your reactions is your beautiful smile and truthful responses. Keep up the great work I love the Allman brothers!

The instrumental used as Top Gear's theme was "Jessica".
Thanks David, I did correct my first comment just afterwards-Colin@@davidscott129
I have a road trip playlist, and this is one of those songs that make my speedometer mysteriously swing to 80+ mph!
I feel you!! I have to set the cruise and take my foot off the gas to keep from hitting that 80+
And I think "Jessica" gets the speedometer up near 90!@@galexj123
Great song! and a great Band! :) So glad you liked it!
that smile and those eyes
Loving some Great Pics Musically!!! ❤🎶🔥
The original said Cajun woman think the world of me. Great song.
No it didn't.
Southbound is another great Allman Bros. cruising tune.
That one will get you a speeding ticket.
My cousin is in the group photo inside the LP bi-fold sleeve. He and Gregg were close friends and he produced Gregg's first solo album.
This Song was Huge Huge Played everywhere,
As usual you show your great taste in music.

Reminds me of "Edge of Sundown" by Danny Joe Brown.
Greatest live band ever.
Another fav
Dickey Betts on lead vocal and guitar. Great band!
Les Dudek did the first solo! dickey did the second solo.
I loved the Allman Brothers !
The part you heard before was part of a chevy truck commercial.
Another classic Allman Brothers hit. If your going to react to the Brothers again, the song Southbound is an ABSOLUTE MUST! Once you hear it you can thank me later!! And as always another great reaction, keep up the good work.
A young Les Dudek did the first solo, the second solo was Dickey!
Them and Marshall Tucker band started southern rock
Lonnie Mack with "Memphis" in 1963 is considered the prototype for Southern Rock. Duane Allman named him as a big influence.
If you want a great "feel good" song and/or road trip song, check out "Jessica" by the Allman Brothers. It's an instrumental that is very upbeat and fun with some great transitions. It's my favorite AB song.

Midnight Rider is my favorite but this is #2.

Can't go wrong with the Allman Brothers.

Good but far from their best. But it was popular and got lots of airplay which exposed them to a larger audience.
Suggestion: Simon and Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" 1970
