Actually this patch is from the WWI afterwar in Estonia - Estonian Independence War. Kuperjanov battalion was founded then, by... lieutenant Kuperjanov (ethnic Estonian, with russificated name - very common in occupied Estonia.) who scrambled his frontline buddies and friends and establish a Kuperianov guerilla battalion what evolved to Kuperianov infantry battalion. Kuperianov died in very heroic, but not exactly tactical way. He was leading his battalion to take over a manor of Paju, what was believed to be abandoned by retreating communistic Russian troops, but instead it was very well occupied by large unit of soviet troops. Kuperianov's battalion get under fire in opening and instead of retreating they attacked successfully... but Kuperionov himself died. Badge is derivate from WWI trench folklore.

10:30 Well, here in Sweden, in the winter, it rains constantly. If you do your training in Southern Sweden you will endure cold, yes, but that cold will be biting. -30°C is not biting anymore. It's dry cold. The southern cold is between -5°C and +5°C and rain. It's not too bad when it's dry and cold. It's a huge inconvenience if it's both wet and cold.
Edit: I think there's still a training facility in Kiruna (I don't know but there was one) and my step dad did his training there. Coldest night he went through was -53°C. You have to piss very quick and hold on to your penis cuz more than 20 sec in that cold and your penis freezes.

I’m not sure patriotism is brain wash, sure to a point it could be for some people. I just view patriotism as something some people have for their countries. We or at least I recognize many things wrong with the US but I’m still patriotic. I think an easier way is saying patriotism is outside of politics, I can understand how you felt different because you were forced to do something you did not want. Here however, people only join the military if they want to. Those that do get certain “rewards” for joining. The longer you stay in the better “rewards” you get.

    • @sunsetwalker2923

Patriotism. What you mention around 9:30
As a Latvian, and now American citizen, I can tell there’s a difference in patriotism between America and the European powers.. Idk. You’re right about the intensity in America, that sometimes looses its potency due to.. “brainwashing”.. I don’t know if I would use that term, but we both agree on the subject.
I can say I prefer the European outlook. Thank you for your service to NATO, and above all, Estonia.

i had to stop while you were singing, because i think those two things connect really well, and they are music and soldier life, which reminded me from when i was just a scrubby army private from the Brazilian army, i was on field training in the plains, and we just finished digging a trench, our lieutenant had left to meet with the other COs and our sergeant was sleeping, because he was tired from leading a platoon of idiots into a lot of exercises, so i offered him to sleep while i watch the boys, and while me and the bois were making some means with some fruits and vegies we found on the wild early, with some birds my friend shot down, we never told our CO how we got that, and that his gun was missing 3 rounds that day. So, we were making that soup of vegies and some bird, the sergeant sleeping, no yelling, just chilling, one of the bois, we can call him bard, he pulled up an harmonica, and started playing that, and soon after we all were singing the battalion's march trough the sound of the harmonica he brought, it was simply bealtiful, too bad that Smartphones with cameras werent a thing in Brasil at the time i served, but that was one amazing moment of the life of all these soldier's there, and who wouldn't dare to change not one bit.
Spoiler: the sergeanr wakes up later, and wasnt bothered at all with that, and the only thing out of regulation we had was the soup, so we all shared the soup and ate before the lieutenant returned.

Rain brings to my mind some moments during the last quarter or so of my army service(I served 12 months in FDF) It was early winter already so the temperature was generally below zero and there was a bit of snow already but then one night the temperature rose bit above 0C and you guessed it, it started to rain. "Lucky us" we found out our tent wouldn't hold water and it was dripping inside along the walls and from the top of the tent and it even formed small puddle on the downhill side of the tent(luckily I slept uphill side). You can imagine the grief of trying to sleep in wet tent after spending (I think it was) 8 days in the field already(and few more to come) After that we started calling our tent "the waterpark Serena" lol Another fun thing that resulted of that rain was that as we woke up in the morning the temperature has dipped again and everything was now coated in few millimeters of ice. Even the tent ropes were frozen stiff(I think if we would have tried to hold them up they would have stayed straight still)

How is defending your people and fighting back against abuse ruining it for everybody? The allies when they refused Hitler's peace offers were the ones who ruined it for everybody
He resurrected Germany from total misery and collapse, inflicted on them by the allied governments. Germans went from starving to the greatest movement on Human history, where everybody was well fed and strong, not only of body but of mind too. With a healthy and strong nationalistic mentality. That's the opposite of ruining it
Like, unless you lived in Germany in that time, you starved or saw your relatives get gunned down by communist terrorists, then you have no right to judge or condemn. There was a reason why the Germans did what they did, and why they were pissed.
And how can you condemn them for trying to take back the lands that were stolen from the German empire? After ww1 and after Austria-Hungary was destroyed by enemies of Europe
You see, we Baltic and Eastern Europeans don't have the same weak gay mentality as the West does of white guilt and shame. We have no shame about our veteran's and their heroic service in the Wehrmacht
I'm 100% proud that my family members fought in the SS against the red enemy in the Baltics.
And we're not even pure white, because we Karelians have mongol blood from Siberia, and the Germans treated us extremely well and even risked their lives to defend us from communists. So yeah, what the allied propaganda says about them are lies

US trains in cold wet rain and snow, mud so deep you got to your waist when you get out of your vehicle, from training in a European theatre for years. Then deploys to the Arabian Desert to attack Iraq. Eventually as desert storm evolves into the ground war, the skies mysteriously cloud up and it becomes the coldest, wettest rainy season they've seen in over 20 years. Was it really a technological advantage? Or were the Iraqis hindered while the U.S. was now fighting in "their" element?

Interesting that they sing the same tune as U.S. military soundoff (also called the “Duckworth Chant”).
Is that common in Estonian military?

    • @tormfury7376
      @tormfury7376 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yeah, I'd say it's pretty common. The rebuilding of Estonian military after the restoration of independence was largely done by a man named Aleksander Einseln. The man was born in Estonia, in 1931. When the tides of WWII turned, and the Soviets began their advance on Germany and prepared to permanently occupy the countries on the path of the Red Army, they made sure to deport anyone likely to resist to Siberian GULAGs. His father happened to be among those people, and his mother fled with him to the west. They lived in West Germany until 1949, at which time they decided to move to the U.S.
Having lost his father to the soviets, it's not hard to imagine how the man might have felt about communists, and anything they had their hands in. So scantly a year later, just before the Korean War had kicked off, he had joined the U.S army, and served as a paratrooper. In total, he served in the U.S army for 35 years, aside Korea doing 2 tours in Vietnam as an army ranger. From 1977 to 1982 he served as the head of the European and NATO office in the Planning and Policy Division of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He retired in 1985.
In 1993, two years after regaining independence, the president of Estonia at the time, Lennart Meri, requested the retired colonel come and take command of Estonian military forces - square them up. Now, officially, the U.S State Department was very much opposed to such an idea, as things after the fall of USSR were still uncertain, and they were hoping to be dealing with a new, more agreeable Russia, and not wanting to have anything soiling these hopeful new developments. Apparently they went as far as threatening to revoke his U.S citizenship and threatening to terminate his military pension. Of course, the official answer to these official concerns was "stick it up yours, I'm going back home" - or so I imagine, for the man did just that. Although, I'm sure, unofficially, the U.S was more than happy to have someone like him in the Estonian military, making sure things were much more U.S-friendly.
He held the command of the Estonian defence forces until some time in 1995, at which time he apparently resigned over a disagreement with the minister of defence at the time. During his time in charge though, he'd been a very busy man, introducing many of the U.S military doctrines and traditions that he'd picked up in the 35 years in U.S Army, while not exactly scoffing on absolutely everything the former Red Army personnel had to offer. And of course those things have survived until now - along more that's just being picked up from NATO and even just popular culture. As for the man himself, he stayed in Estonia until his death in 2017, worked in the education centers for officers, occasionally attempted to dabble in politics. His ashes now rest in the Arlington cemetery, alongside other veterans of Korean and Vietnam wars.

@@tormfury7376 The tides of ww2 changed because the Americans and British helped the communists.
Germans were outnumbered and fighting on multiple fronts against the allied enemies, otherwise they would've crushed the communists, because we Baltic peoples were fighting with them against the red army. If it was just the communists against us they would've lost for sure
When the red army went to Berlin to murder the population they were carried by American truck's. Before that they had committed the ethnic cleansing if German people form Prussia and Bohemia, also with British help.

Looks like I saw an American M2 .50 machine gun and an HK G3 rifle in the video. Is the G3 standard issue for Estonian forces? What do you use for light and/or medium and or general purpose machine gun? The FN MAG?
You say "Estonian Soldier" on your videos but you only did the minimum conscription service and didn't want to do that. That seems a bit confusing?
