I hope you have no trouble finding that screw - I'm so looking forward to when this is sparkly clean and gleaming and you put it all back together again. :-)

I already ordered it and have it! I can't wait to see it all finished either!

@@SewingMachineRehab Can I ask where you order parts? I'm having a heck of a time getting the set screw out and if I ruin the screw, where do I find another one? I've used the Kroil multiple times, hair dryer etc. Ack.

@@jolala-w6z If you mean one of the set screws on the hook assembly you should be able to find them from singer-featherweight.com I get a lot of parts from there or eBay. You can be sure that the Featherweight shop will send you a working screw, Ebay is a little more risky sometimes. If you were able to get one of the set screws out and just one of the two is stuck, try spraying a penetrating oil (make sure it is a penetrating oil, not WD-40) into the hole where the other set crew was and let it creep down to the stuck one. You can also try heating that area up with a hair dryer, sometimes that helps loosen things up a bit. Good luck!

Hello! I recently bought a featherweight and am attempting to clean it, gears and all. It is my first, and thank goodness for your videos, they helped me understand the machine and what to look out for. I have been trying to clean the bobbin case and race but the grey marks are not coming off. They don’t seem to be rust, and the cotton swab does come out clean. What do I need to do to remove them or do I need to worry?

Hello! I wouldn’t worry about them. If they are not rough to the touch then it is just some discoloration and shouldn’t hurt the performance of your machine. You could polish them out if you have something small enough to get in there but it isn’t necessary. Good luck with your restoration!

what type of sand paper is used to smooth the grooves in the thread guard?

Hi! I would start with 1,000 and then move up to 3,000. You can also try the rubber honing stick that they sell at the singer featherweight shop. Both will work, it won't be perfect but you can remove all the rough spots that the thread will catch on.

Wish someone would show a Elna like this. Mine is not working properly. (Do you think we could get a screw for a Singer sewing machine? Or are they VERY exclusive?).

Hi, depends on the screw. Thankfully the set screw I needed was easy to find. What model of Elna do you have?
