I have somewhat similar experience in my life. I live in US for past 15 years, me and my family, we speak our language, read our books, eat our traditional food, pray to our gods and celebrate our festivals and i use to tell my western friends, that whatever their understanding about our faith and belief system, they can keep it to themselves, i don't care and i am not interested in what others think about us. They don't understand, we follow traditions of our ancestors and I am aware that not everybody does that, but there will be always people like me who follow their way of life no matter what physical location/country/galaxy we live on. But yes, now I realized there is no point trying to argue with people who don't want to understand.

The emphasis on "strategic pushback" was very important. As you've mentioned, to avoid getting binned as a mere "fanatic faction", we need to develop multiple levels of assertiveness - ranging from podcasts to news "debates" to academic & news articles. The power of money in building out a favorable ecosystem & legitimizing one's side... Many important takeaways.
    A very valuable talk.👍

Nice Kushal, that you've given credit to Rajiv Malhotra where it's due. Some people may not always agree with him on everything, but he's the one who got a lot of metro & cosmopolitan Indian youth to take an interest in the Indian civilization (or to even think of Hindutva as more than just a rural nostalgia) in the first place. They may not be the largest vote base, but they're very potent in political discourse (especially when they swell the ranks of the other side, en masse).
(The RSS doesn't really have a great image in the cities, nor have they put much effort into building one. Their depiction, much like India's, is largely done by outsiders. Their +ves could have otherwise offset some of their -ves, in terms of public perception).
I've seen many people finding it hard to associate with him (due to some of his out-of-touch views on caste), but he brought to attention a lot of past accomplishments & contemporary vulnerabilities of the Indian civilization.

    • @jojobabok9373
      @jojobabok9373 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@Aryan Thakur Nothing per se. It's just that he dwells a lot on the "jati-varna vs caste system", which many people may not be interested in, considering:
      1. The very real caste violence in rural India.
      2. To some, being able to rise in the ranks may be more important than being respected wherever you are in society (which seems to be just a form of patronizing).
In real life conversations, these points seem to carry more weight than historical nuances.
While it is true that the British rigidified caste like never before (using Manusmrithi as their reference text - while there is zero evidence of it actually being used in any Indian kingdom & it being just one of the many Dharmashastras), the existence of inter-generational hierarchies in ancient India is mentioned in many texts. Lowborn were usually frowned upon as likely candidates for taking up higher professions. There are prominent examples of exceptions, but it was a generally difficult task, especially without favor from above (much like today's political/geo-political landscape).
Of course, this was the case throughout the ancient world.
While caste does need a lot of research (& may have been over-simplified), Rajiv Ji makes it seem like mistreatment of the lower castes didn't happen in pre-British India. Which is why I said his views on caste are "out-of-touch", not entirely false.
The rest of his work (including his ongoing projects) are quite important.

@Aryan Thakur I completely disagree with him on his take on Varna-Caste. Overall he says that Caste System is bad and outcome of British Imperialism, whereas Varna System was beautiful. I say, Minus the Varna system, there is no caste hierarchy, hence it is Varna System which has manifested oppression in several ways, latest being hierarchal caste system in modern period which was started by British!!

Respect starts from home. If majority of Hindus vote for Hindu forces, non Hindu forces either located abroad or in India can do little. Hindus should always remember they have been ruled by Muslims and Christians (so called minorities now) for centuries. It is time Hindus stood for their living civilization.

Hinduism is the only polytheistic( multiple gods) religion still in existence despite muslim and Christian invasions. Rest of the world has succumbed to monotheism(One god concept- Islam and Christianity). Most of the countries of the world are either Muslim or Christian. Also India is the spiritual compass for all the major religions of the east like Buddhism, jainism, Sikhism, Taoism. If Hindus fall then India falls and if india falls, the spiritualism of the east falls and then eventually the east will have to look towards the west for spiritual enlightenment. The problem is not Hinduism, it is polytheism ( multiple gods) in my opinion.

When, some Abrahmics in west realized that it was no longer possible to defend brutalities preached for others in their holy texts nd violence practically done to others in history worldover, it could lead to Abrahmics in countries revert to their ownland rooted religion, culture existing before Abrahmics invaded them nd forcibly converted them to Abrahmic religions, they invented their atheism to further keep people under their ideological slavery, they do propaganda to label Indic faiths under same type of their violent Abrahmic faiths, that is why, they are also against nationalism

My experience is when I encounter someone abusive towards Hinduism, I point out Jesus's Virgin birth or Mohammad's antics. They become completely defensive. I never take shit from these abrahamic religions.
