- Birmingham in England’s West Midlands region is a major city with a history in the industrial revolution. The city is less popular among tourists though is conveniently located between Oxford and Liverpool as a stopover.
We start our Birmingham city tour at the St. Martin in the Bull Ring and near the futuristic Selfridges department store. We take a quick stroll over the Bullring Open Market before we enter the city centre. Next we walk around China Town and also check out Grand Central. After the shopping area we head a bit out of central Birmingham and eventually return to the St. Philip's Cathedral in the city centre.
There is more to see so we head to Victoria Square with the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery and Town Hall there. It is getting late. It's time to return to where we started walking on the New Street which is also a major hotel and shopping area.
We end our evening tour about where we started with a nice view of the cathedral St. Martin in the Bull Ring.

Costing a total of £60 million to construct, the building won the RIBA Award for Architecture in 2004. Interestingly, many people now credit Selfridges as being one of the first major examples of ‘Blobitecture’ with many similar style buildings soon following suit.

Thanks for uploading. Birmingham is my home town and because I was feeling homesick,this was the perfect way to view my city. I live in the U.S.A now, but nothing could compare to Bullring shopping.
I'm with you Raine... Birmingham is where I was born but I live in Sydney now. The video was great to watch but made me feel like I want to see it all again.

@Abdurahman O Why is that, there is no night life except a few wine bars and restaurants, and not much in visitor attractions, it has its own problems with Kingshurst and Chelmsley wood, plus in the boundary reorganisations of the mid 1970's solihull was nearly taken over by Birmingham like sutton coldfield was, but some how Solihull escaped being taken over by Birmingham.

39:38 *Birmingham's Children Hospital* Located on the University Campus in Edgbaston, is very historical and am glad to see how lovely it is kept. Beautiful location.
The Birmingham Children's Hospital is at the Bottom of Corporation Street opposite the old Central Fire Station in what was the old Victorian General Hospital not on the University Campus in Edgbaston. That is the Queen Elizabeth University Medical Centre.
Although the city is quite modern the layout is old, something that is quite different from North American cities , where it’s grid pattern. It gives interesting walks because of the curvature or irregularity of the street pattern, and also the mix of old and new buildings one sees. In all, a very interesting city to walk through with a good energy.
Birmingham looks like a vibrant city, and very modern! Greetings from Italy 🇮🇹

Sorry to disappoint you there is no such things as peaky blinders in Brum, they did not exist. Check any history book on Brum and you will read of pick pocket gangs but not Peaky Blinders, just a silly TV series. The only place that gangs walked around threatening people with sub machine guns over their shoulders would be Chicago in the USA in the 1920'2 /30's. Besides it was not filmed in Birmingham, it was filmed in Liverpool and the Black Country Museum in Dudley.

Some of the nicest parts of Birmingham is around St pauls Square in the Jewellary quarter, lovely part of the city. It is a shame that people just stay within the Bullring/Shopping area of the city as this isn't the nicest part of Birmingham and then people miss out. There is so much more to this city than the Bullring and around Victoria Square. Nice Video though ;-)
Agree I'm from Nottingham. Brum is fab ... missed off a lot of it here. Brindley, the canal the new square etc

Birmingham, my "Brummie" grandmother’s hometown. A city rebuilt after the WWII and shattered (so she said) in the '60s-'70s ... nowadays it’s sad and ugly, really ugly overall. If she could see it ... maybe not!!!
Yes when your Grandmother was alive Birmingham was a stinky, smog ridden, slum infested and Bomb Cratered city during the 1950's and late 1960's, I grew up in the Saltley area when I was a child and I witnessed Birmingham's rebirth with its massive slum clearance. It is now a greener modern City with fantastic Entertainment, Restaurants, places to visit, loads of fantastic parks and Birmingham has the highest % of greenery per land mass in the country worthy of being the UK's second largest city, so not sure exactly how you think it is ugly, Birmingham now is a beautiful, vibrant, cosmopolitan and multiracial City which I do believe you Grandmother would like.

Hello i'm from São Paulo Brasil and I'm going to do a England ''tour'' on my vacation. London at October 3-4 and then i'll stay 8 nights in Birmingham and 2 nights in liverpool!! Any tips ? :D
From a tourism perspective I'd spend way less time in Birmingham - 1n or 2n max. My route was Liverpool - Birmingham - Oxford - Cardiff - Bristol - Bath in that area... When you get back to London it may be worth going also via a stop Brighton. I'd say there is a better use of days than 8 days in Birmingham unless you visit family/friends there
@@poptravelorg So what is the reason for spending less time in Birmingham as there is more to see in Brum than Manchester and Liverpool, in the City Center you have the World Famous Museum and Art Gallery, the biggest municipal lending Library in Europe with a viewing gallery on the roof, the biggest Sea world in the UK, the biggest Primark in the world and the biggest under cover shopping complex called the Bullring/ Grand Central Shopping Center, you have the world famous Millennium point Museum of technology on East Side the world Famous Jewelry Quaker, The Birmingham Nature Center in Cannon Hill Park, Aston Hall and Blakesley Hall both Tudor old Houses in the City and Sarehole Mill where Tolkien got his ideas for the Lord of the Rings and Cadbury world plus loads of other tourist spot in and with in easy reach of Birmingham

I guess its just because most British cities developed from the industrial revolution so they're more modern than cities in other countries
Most of these cities were flattened during the war by the Luftwaffe. Post war rebuilding was done badly to say the least especially in the 60’s.
It's just the few big cities that are not walkable. Birmingham is probably the worst.

More to Birmingham than the fictitious peaky blinders that did not and have never existed just the fictional idea of a film director who doe not come from Birmingham.
@@peterwilliamallen1063 Steven Knight is from Birmingham and the peaky blinders were a real street gang. The group in the show is fictitious but the original members didn't lead well documented lives, apart from their crimes.
@@maxisussex Well I have read nearly every History book and watched a load of Video / DVD's on Birmingham and do you know what, not one mention is made anywhere about the peaky blinders, even Carl Chinn admitted in the end, a Birmingham historian admitted they did not exist, firstly as Carl Chinn said, " Razor Blades had Just been invented at that period of time, and any that existed were too expensive to be waisted and cut throat razor were used for shaving", there were cut throat gangs as there were in London, pick pockets and vagabonds. The Garrison pub does exist and gang frequented it, but not called Peaky Blinders and I am sorry to disappoint Peaky Blinder fans, gangs did not go around Brum with Shot guns and SubMachine guns over their shoulders as in the series, I think you would find that more in Manhattan or Chicago. As I said the name Peaky Blinders only come about due to the TV programme, no history book or DVD mentions that name other than ordinary gangs and I have Shit loads of Birmingham History books and DVD's.
@@maxisussex With reference to the peaky blinders, it was mentioned in a BBC2 programme on the Building of HS2 and in the second half featuring Birmingham, Professor Carl Chinn a historian on Birmingham explained it, they were not a gang as the programme seems to portray, there were gangs in the Birmingham at this period and they were named after families, the Shelbys not being one of them, these gangs fought each other using ordinary flick knives in a slashing manner, throwing stones and house Bricks, bricks in cotton sacks and stone throwing catapults, not razor blades. The name " peaky Blinders" covered every young ruffian and gang member and came about because of their head gear. The truth of it according to Carl Chinn is that these gang members and ruffians wore their hair greased down with a small quiff of hair again greased down on the forehead to one side of their face, the type of hat they wore was a flat cap with a peak which was worn on a slant to one side of the head which covered one eye and showed of the hair quiff, hence they were all called peaky blinders as a fashion , as the peak flat cap covered one eye, so hence the overall name for young men in the Edwardian era in Birmingham was Peaky Blinders it was not one Irish family gang and they never used their cap to attack someone. This comes from a Brummie and a Brummie Historian, Professor Carl Chinn who quoted this on BBC 2 to millions of viewers the other night.

There are also records of members of the peaky blinders, with Thomas Gilbert and Harry Fowles being prominent members. These gangs were formed in the late 19th century and it wasn't till the early 20th century that the peaky blinders gang had dissolved and the name was applied in a more generic way to street criminals.

There are no more immigrants in Birmingham than any other City in the world, do not go by what a video shows. out of 1,350,000 inhabitants in Birmingham, there may only be a small percentage of immigrants. Paris, London, New York and Berlin are no different.

@@acos21 Well Chris, the video shows Birmingham as it, is I should know how the City looks now I LIVE IN BIRMINGHAM and have done man and boy for 65 years now and love this diverse City and I have seen the City rebuilt over the years, into a thoroughly modern City, Immigrants, even Fox News in America ballsed up about this on live TV and had to apologize for telling trash about Birmingham and its immigrants on US Television, out of at least 1.3 million Citizens in Birmingham, only 20% are of any ethnic minority, the Rest are white of English and other nationalities, plus there are no more immigrants in Birmingham than the Rest of Britain or Europe it is just how the person doing the video did it and nobody has got their head in the sand what ever you mean by that, it is fact that Birmingham is not full of immigrants, London and Paris are even worce.

Nahh it's a detty city all the time but that's what makes it exciteing, unknowing if you might get stabbed and the smell of pollution makes the city thrilling, you see funny people and drug addicts everywhere you go, or you'll see tory's in suits in some parts, all the parts that make up a bustling city
